Ravens trying to land a WR before trade deadline?

212 posts in this topic

Whether it's a good move or not, I see us trading a late round pick for Britt.

I cant see us giving up enough to get Gordon, or the Browns being willing to trade him to us.

I can see us giving up enough to get Hicks with the possibility of losing him in the offseason.

So by default I think Britt is the most likely candidate, even more so when you consider his potential, low price, Rutgers connection to Rice, and his history of tearing us up. And honestly, I think in the right environment he can turn it around.

And for everyone saying we're set at WR, I don't agree. Brown, Jacoby, and Doss are all performing well and above expectations. The problem is that our expectations weren't high to begin with. Theyre all complimentary players, not guys who can consistently beat man coverage. Theyre just not consistent or versatile enough at this point.

I'm not saying Britt is definitely that guy either. But he definitely has the potential to be. The real question is why hasn't he lived up to that potential consistently in Tennessee? And is it worth a late round pick to find out?

I mean, we aren't much better right now then the Falcons, so I doubt he would come here.

It would kinda be cool to see him finish his career in KC....

I wouldn't necessarily want him. We are starving for consistent TE play but he's a half-season rental with whatever salary that comes with him and picks we give out. Plus, if Pitta's healthy in a couple weeks then we're good to go.

A new WR is NOT going to help us. Joe doesn't have time to throw. The line is the problem......why isn't anyone getting this? If Joe can't throw the ball, and the receivers don't have time to get open, we are gonna fail either way. Like is said before, trade Juan Castillo for a washing machine and some jumbo imitation crab meat!

Youre right.

But things are interconnected. While our other WRs have been ok, theyre not good or consistent enough for defenses to fear them making big plays. Put another WR opposite Torrey that can do it all, and now you have to play more honest.

More good weapons means you have to drop more guys into coverage, which means less guys to rush the passer. We don't have guys that can get open quickly enough, or consistently enough right now other than Torrey and theyre just scheming him out of games. Jacoby's routes take too long to develop. Doss isn't strong enough. Marlon isn't consistent enough yet. Stokley wasn't quick enough.

WR is certainly not the most pressing need. But we aren't exactly stacked at the position. And an improvement anywhere on offense will help out all other areas by chain reaction. It might not make as big a difference as some hope, but adding a quality player cant hurt if the value is right.

They could really use him too.

I would laugh so hard. The media darling Falcons defeated and dismantled.

Seems to be a bit of a trend this season.

You can add Texans to that list.

How about Tony Gonzalez? He said he came out of the retirement to have a shot at a SB, not a shot at a couch.  His last chance to win the SB is coming tomorrow, and I think we need a sure-handed TE with strong route-running and a lock down for 3rd down.  Joe can use of him until Pitta is back; when he's back, we can use 2 TE sets which is a nightmare for any opposing LB in the NFL.

For cap space, I'm pretty sure Tony cares most about SB ring than pocket change at this latest stage of his HOF career.

Ozzie, make it happened....

He already said he wasn't looking to be traded. With that stated, I think if we were in a better position right now, you could possibly make it happen. Fact is though, if he's going to go back on his word, he'd want to go somewhere where they are sitting pretty.

Sadly, right now, anyone would say we're a long shot to even win the division. I disagree, but that is what outsiders looking in will see.

Tony has backtracked and said he would be agreeable to a trade, however Mike Smith said no way could be a bargaining tactic not sure but those reports are from today . http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/

I stated previous I would be overjoyed but I don't see it happening

^^ This 100%.  If Gonzalez is going to go anywhere, it will be a team that has a good shot at winning their division, and a good shot at going deep in the playoffs.  The Ravens are not that team.  Whether or not we actually start playing well and put ourselves in a position to make the playoffs is yet to be seen.  But today is the trade deadline, and there's no way to determine what we'll do for the rest of the season.  There's not even much proof that adding another receiver will actually lead to us playing better on game day.

I see him going to KC, or maybe NE (not sure what their cap looks like right now).  I would say the Saints would be a viable option as well, if they weren't in the same division as Atlanta.

I may be wrong, but I think when ravensdfan says that Gonzalez isn't "looking to be traded" he means that he isn't demanding a trade to get off the team - not that he's completely ruling out being traded.  I may be wrong, but that's how I read it.

I only meant he wasn't making a locker room issue by demanding a trade because he came back for a SB shot.

Which is why I think if we were in a better position as a team, we could possibly make it happen. Just not where we are right now.

I'd much rather see us pick up a TE than a WR though Dickson seems to be playing like the light finally went on.

I personally don't think he would ask for the trade, but sometimes thinking about trading him for a vet salary would be salivating.  He would retired and enter HOF with SB winless........

I was thinking patriots for Tony  esp with the issues they are having and BB loves those two tight end sets they are also in a better position then we are .

I agree about Dickson ,I was stunned when I read the articles about Tony agreeing to be traded . I posted prior that I too didn't think we were in a position to trade for him.

Very boring thus far.  Hopefully it ends up like baseball where a lot of last minute deals are made.  Trades are something I'd like to see more often in the NFL.

Agreed. I think that was the idea with moving the deadline back. More teams cut their losses and try to sell off assets in hopes of building through the draft and teams in contention will try to pick up pieces in hopes of winning now. Seems like people are a little gun shy though.

I think we'll see 2-3 WR's land in different spots by 4pm. 45 minutes and counting.

Thirty minutes to see if Jason got legit info or not.

Kenny Britt and Jon Baldwin are the only guys left if we really are looking to make a deal.  Hakeem Nicks and Josh Gordon aren't going anywhere.  I saw that Fred Davis and Greg Little were of no interested to anyone.  Tony Gonzalez is likely staying.

Why the hell would we want Jon Baldwin? Didn't he get his butt handed to him by Thomas Jones for acting like a fool

Oh I don't want him at all lol.  I was just referencing the article I posted to begin the thread where La Canfora mentioned Baldwin.  He's a complete waste of a roster spot as far as I'm concerned.

This stinks. 15 min left and so far nothing.

All Jared Allen rumors are done. Gordon and Nicks not going anywhere. Linval Joseph staying put.

Apparently Little and Britt could be had for a 12 pack of soda bc no ones asking about them.

Falcons are saying No to trading Gonzo.

So much for drama.
