Ravens trying to land a WR before trade deadline?

212 posts in this topic

Yet it prevented the resignings of Ellerbe, C. Williams (thankfully), Kruger (thankfully), E. Reed as well as cutting Bernard Pollard.

Lies? What are you trying to suggest? Harbs, Ozzie & co deliberately traded Boldin to set the team back and force us to start 3-4...

Yeah, I think he was deliberately traded. What do you think ?

The Salary Cap does not make decsisions. Your Baltimore Ravens signed contracts with said players, not the salary cap.

The GFO cuts and trades players.

They decided to play hardball with Joe, and looky looky  wha happened.

So why? Why would we do that? You seem to have all the answers so please share? Because I'm dying to know?

I don't know why he was traded, we need him desperately.  It was a very bad idea to trade him to save $2 million cap dollars.

Cap dollars are decisions made by people.  We were aware of the cap before, during, and after Boldin was signed.

Do you think he was  deliberately traded, or not ?

We saved $6M on the cap.

Nah it was an accident, but SF called no take backsies so we were screwed.

MVP Says : We saved $6M on the cap.

Yeeaahhhhh !!

What did we do with it, put it in the bank ?

It was spent on something else, not saved.

Did we put it in an IRA ?

Do we have 6M in cap space, or was it spent on other players ?

Spent on Dumervil, Smith, and Canty, among others.

It was actually $7 million I believe and it went on Smith, Dumervill, Canty, Spears and Huff (the final player hasn't turned out to well but the rest have been solid pick ups).

It depends what you mean by deliberately, of course the trade wasn't accidental but you're writing as if you have a conspiracy that the Ravens traded Boldin to screw ourselves over, that did not happen, we traded him to upgrade elsewhere (which we have).

If we could go back, I'd want Ozzie to do it again, the upgrades elsewhere far out way the loss of Boldin and if Pitta hadn't gone down, the deal would have looked a lot wiser then perhaps some are making it out to be...

I like are WR's an think they can win a superbowl, I we are going to trade it should be for a guard or DT!  Please don't trade for these worthless WR's available save the draft pick an let the young guys prove themselves!

Well, I think Smith will be a priority but how much remains to be seen. There's a legitimate chance that we feel fine with Brown & Bynes & McClain. In that scenario, we could absolutely let Smith walk to get a compensatory pick feeling we can replace him with what we have. It depends on Jameel and Bynes, more than Brown.

Why do you feel like Pitta won't be back???

Nicks. Britt has character issues as well as injury concerns. Nicks is nicked up, but he's at least got a decent character.

hey grim, thanks for you response,  I am not saying pitta will not be back, but I do feel like he won't make it back,,,our rec's are progressing well, so there is no reason to trade for a rec.Now if we do trade for a body if only for a year , I think you might have mentioned that we could get a comp pick next year so we really don't loose anything.Me ,, I think it is a great move only if PITTA is still hurt

I know this is the wrong section for it, but I have really been following Mike Campanaro from Wake Forrest. He actually played at my old HS and I remember him from River Hill. But the kid is a Wes Welker clone, ideal slot receiver. He's played there all 4 years at Wake and has over 200 rec out of the slot. 4.4 speed, 5'10 190. And the kid is tough. I don't know where he's projected, but I'm sure he will kill it at the combine.
I think that's really our weakness right now is the slot. We have plenty of guys that can win outside, but really nobody that can work the slot.
Just some food for thought.

I watched this guy for the first time when they played the Terps a couple of weeks ago. I know it's at the NCAA level, but I thought he looked like a juiced Wes Welker. Played skillfully, and tough.

I noticed all the talk is about wide receivers, but thoughts on Tony Gonalzes ? Is he too expensive he would be perfect ....older end of career ...

They said he won't be traded. Both the team and Gonzalez himself said it

I was just on their message board trying to get a vibe on a possible Gonzo trade before you posted this. It would be a perfect signing. I think he is worth a 5th round pick in 2014 and a 6th in 2015 or a 2014 6th and a player trade.

Not to mention, I think we could get an additional year from him, meaning he would not retire if the team is on the cusp.

Evil grin, Fitz!

Shoot for the moon brother! I like it! I can't see how we could ever find the cap space, but what a huge addition he would be.

Considering our cap problems, I don't see us pulling off a big name. I can't see Ozzie giving up a decent draft pick for a one year rental either.

how do you figure? gordon would be a raven for a good while, he is 22 years old... he's proven, and without his character flaws he is no doubt worth a first rounder.

Could be TE Fred Davis. Redskins are aggressively trying to trade him.

Not a fan.  Even though Reed is coming on strong, there's a reason Davis isn't playing.  Plus, his suspension scares me.  Not worth giving up a draft pick, in my opinion.

Personally, I'd rather the Ravens just be sellers at the deadline. I know I'm gonna get negged for this, but why not stockpile draft picks for this year's super-loaded draft?

I agree but on this forum being 'realistic' is seen as being fair weather or pessimistic but the divison is getting out of reach, the Bengals have looked great and people on this forum seem to think you can go from playing horrble football to winning 8 games in a row. It doesn't happen in the NFL.

I'm not saying he will finish 6-10 or so but this season is def void of a deep playoff run and being a middle of road team is a deathly trap.

We saved $6M on the cap.

And by saving 6 Mil. we were able to land, Canty, Dumervil

Spent on Dumervil, Smith, and Canty, among others.

Yeah, we had to give up Boldin to refresh our defense. What really hurt our present record was a Pitta-less offense. ...He could be back for the Bears.
