Ravens trying to land a WR before trade deadline?

The article from La Canfora says we're deep in talks about landing a WR.  Interesting to me.  I don't think WR is an issue at all.  Brown and Doss are stepping up next to Torrey.  Jacoby is working his way back into the rotation.  Deonte is good depth.  I can't picture this happening.

You act like every receiver we have is Calvin Johnson 2.0.  I like our guys, but bringing in someone who is proven doesn't sound like a bad idea.

But tell the truth people, we would've been better off with Derrick Mason then Dallas Clark ( salary 4.53million).....& they made that man retire.

Or not sign Vonta back, not have given David Reid 2million & not sign Dallas Clark or Huff we could have keep Q......But you know John, always trying to ice skate up hill.

Okay, not acting like that at all...

It just doesn't make sense when we have a quality group and other needs.  Why give up a draft pick for a half season rental?

Josh Gordon has 2 and a half years left on his rookie contract.I'd give a first to the browns for him if that's all they want.It would basically be like drafting him in the first round.I doubt anyone we draft next year in the first will end up being better than Gordon.I say either go for that or try to grab Britt with a 4th.

Well, there are these guys named Marqise Lee, Mike Evans, Jordan Matthews, Sammy Watkins who might be worth a 1st round pick, especially if we end up going 8-8. I'd much rather keep those high draft picks.

The issue with Gordon is that he's one screw up away from a year suspension.  It's hard to justify giving up a high pick for that risk.

And as for the Britt idea, we can't get him with a 4th since we traded that for Monroe.  The only tradeable picks we have are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and whatever we got for McKinnie.

The 1 year rental isn't bad because if the player plays well they can get a good deal in free agency and give you a bigger return. For instance, let's assume it's Kenny Britt and we acquire him for a player or even a pick like our 6th rounder. If we send our 6th round pick for Britt, he plays well and gets some notoriety and keeps his nose clean then he could generate 2015 compensation for us. Granted, we won't have it next year but it's one way of generating more picks.

It also helps us compete. If we traded for Britt and didn't give up a lot, we could use him in the red zone to help us score. We all know about our struggles in the red zone converting into TD not FG. He could help. I'm not big into giving up a lot and I'm not big on giving up long term deals because I want Torrey to get his. But it wouldn't be a bad move

Tyrod isn't a free agent. I doubt Ihedigbo costs us any big money. Dickson, Oher, and Jacoby I believe are allowed to walk. That means Art Jones, Daryl Smith, Dennis Pitta and Eugene Monroe are our priorities. I expect Elam to move to SS next year.

As for the fate of Suggs and Ngata I'd expect the following to occur: we extend Suggs and structure his deal to be friendly next year and get bigger after so that we can cut Ngata in 2015 if he continues to struggle. It doesn't make a ton of sense to cut Ngata to save 1M though it's possible we could trade him I'd expect us to keep him around until his final year before making drastic moves like that. If we want to re-sign Arthur Jones we could under the assumption we'd cut Ngata in 2015. We'd just have to structure his deal to accommodate for it.

I love this ,, but I do think we will try and sign Daryl Smith but not at a  priority ,also maybe if we are looking at a WR,think pitta may not make it back,so who do you think is the better rec,NICKS or BRITT

Well, I think Smith will be a priority but how much remains to be seen. There's a legitimate chance that we feel fine with Brown & Bynes & McClain. In that scenario, we could absolutely let Smith walk to get a compensatory pick feeling we can replace him with what we have. It depends on Jameel and Bynes, more than Brown.

Why do you feel like Pitta won't be back???

Nicks. Britt has character issues as well as injury concerns. Nicks is nicked up, but he's at least got a decent character.

"Quality group"

They aren't quality.  Our offensive line wasn't as terrible as usual against the Steelers and our offense still struggled.  The run game was bad but at least Rice was gaining some yards.  Our receivers can't get open.  Torrey is very good at making big plays but is not consistent enough to give Joe the targets he needs.

Doss has made some plays along with Brown but they aren't getting consistently open.  We need a guy who can do that.

NEITHER!

- Nicks is by far the better receiver IMO, he's a steal for a 3rd or a 2nd round pick. But the problem is he has proven to be very injury prone, and I don't think the Ravens are comfortable giving him the large contract he likely wants come free agency.

- Britt has excellent physical ability, but he has had injury problems. Bottom line with him though, he does not have the attitude of a Ravens player, he's a diva.

First off, nobody is trading a 1st round pick for Gordon.  A 2nd and a later pick is a much more reasonable price especially for a guy with who is one strike away from a season long ban.

I don't like this. Ozzie needs to let our young receivers develop, Marlon is coming around very nicely to be a threat opposite of Torrey.

If anything trade for a TE we can pair with Dickson and potentially a compliment to Pitta for next season.

WR is not a need.  It was, now it's not.

I agree. Have no idea why we're supposedly dying to trade for a WR.

I like our stable of young receivers led by Torrey. If Pitta hadn't gone down, this probably wouldn't even be a point of discussion. I'd like to see us hang tight, and maybe nab a 1st or 2nd round WR.

I really wasn't expecting that. I'd rather get a center, but I'm sure a big-time WR would help us a lot.

I said many times, before the draft, that we needed WR's.  However, I was informed by many various and astute posters that we had enough WR's.

Our great front office seemed to agree, they felt we only needed more special team players.

Of course, Revisionism Rules Raven Boards.

How about another LB for special teams ?

Maybe we could trade a 6th round pick for Boldin ?

Ohhh, the salary cap. Duhh, the salary cap has not cut any one else.  It seems we use the entire cap. Now, how an about that contract for party boy, @ LT.

Had cap room for that, huh ?

Excuses, or lies ?

Im not in favour of a WR trade but if one is to happen, I'd hope it would involve a low pick + one of Jacoby or Oher. I know getting rid of either player seems counter intuative but I don't see either being back next year so makes sense to try get something for them.

Would signing a WR or TE basically just be the FO's way of saying "Screw the run game, we'll run it through Joe's arm instead."?

Yes. Ravens try to establish run early in games. Doesnt work Fall behind. Playing catchup from beginning to end. Offense opens up late in 3q. Ravens cant run the ball period, interior line is bad....ko and Yanda hurt, gino sucks. Tight ends cant run block. Rbs slow as rented mules. Pass, pass pass. The run game cant be fixed this year. The whole running the ball early takes the life out of the team and they quickly Fall behind. Use the pass to set up the run, is the only way to fix the offense at this point.

In my opinion,we should cut McClain for the 3 million in cap and resign Smith.Smith deserves that money way more than McClain. And about those wrs,I doubt any of them will go on to be as productive as Gordon. Why spend a first on a wr whose upside isn't even close to what Gordon has already proven to be?The only wr in this draft I'm high on is Cody Hoffman.Jordan Matthews is good too but he doesn't look like a bonifide #1 wr like Gordon already is.

Yet it prevented the resignings of Ellerbe, C. Williams (thankfully), Kruger (thankfully), E. Reed as well as cutting Bernard Pollard.

Lies? What are you trying to suggest? Harbs, Ozzie & co deliberately traded Boldin to set the team back and force us to start 3-4...

Jim told john he could have him back in exchange for ownership to the top bunk bed back at their parents house, sadly John declined ......
