Purple Punishment

Rep Points.

9 posts in this topic

I never mentioned it or seen it mentioned but why did the site stop letting users have rep points. You can still up or down vote a post, but the rep points don't appear under the user anymore? What happened?

If I have to be a comedian, I'll read ever single one of my posts and count up my rep points and put them on my sig. +35s count as well!

Seriously, just wondering why rep was turned off.

I believe a few people complained because employers or someone could possibly get infor about a person based on their rep points..

I could be completely wrong or thinking about something else there idk

Honestly, I've never understood why anyone cares one iota about a virtual reputation. I don't get it.

A lot of jokes get erased by the mods, apparently they "don't add anything" to the discussion other than a few laughs. Most of the time you won't get any notification or explanation as to why half your previous day posts have vanished.

It has it's place but it won't work here with all the fun police, the highest reps would go to the cheerleaders who say stuff like GO RAVENS! WOO! without actually adding or discussing anything constructive.

Partially correct. Since employers now check social media we had several ask for their accounts be deleted because of negative rep points and were concerned it would hurt their chances landing a job. At the time there were several articles on sites like

the Wallstreet Journal, NY Times and 60 Minutes did a story on employers holding social media against people. The Media Team decided that it was best to can the rep system and that caused an up roar so you can rep posts but the numbers are hidden

There are also the 'serial neg reppers' that don't like someone so they neg the post and get all their friends to join in, the accidental neg with a touch screen and you would not believe this but people would sign their kids up so they get pluses and have more negs to issue. In a perfect world people would use the system for what it was designed for but we don't live in a perfect world.

This is news to me.  Tell me more about this imperfect world. :D

Rather sad that we live in a society that a employers are stretching as far as a football forum and looking at a rep system.  Just sad.  What kind of a job would even do that?

Anyway...
