RB Beanie Wells tears achilies trying out for us, we sign RB Bernard Scott instead

117 posts in this topic

I think its just a try out nothing more or less. teams do this just about every year and if rice or pierce for some reason have to miss a few games / place on i.r due to a injury Beanie Wells or Bernard Scott may be the running backs the ravens sign from the free agent market. The ravens still currently need to add depth to the running back position and in my, opinon Anthony Allen is the most logical answer or even Damien Berry.

I agree with you... just read your post.

I agree. He knows the system pretty well. I wouldn't have an issue with it.

Well I'm glad you wouldn't have an issue with it lol. I'm sure your vote is what bring AA back to Bmore.

cant IR them, but I get your point.

You don't really need familiarity as a RB. It certainly helps but that's not a big deal.

It only matters in terms of ZBS or PBS scheme and as far as I'm concerned Wells played the ZBS like Baltimore does so I have to agree with you here.

Curious here. Why do you think we can't IR them? If either is hurt bad enough, they'll go to the IR. Did I just misunderstand this or something?

Such a homer. Clearly it is a cover-up.

Without a doubt.  Magic bullet 2.0 is what we're dealing with for the Ravens right now.

So wait....was firing Cam covering up the cover-up? It's brilliant.

Maybe this is actually what's happening at Owings Mills right now...

I love what your saying. We also should bring back Ant. Allen. He is a decent RB, and a beast on ST!

I've been waiting for this to happen but the FO or coaching staff must be resistant to the idea.

Hard to understand how Beanie Wells would be a better option than Damion Berry, Anthony Allen, or Shaun Draughn.

Allen is a special teams beast and promising HB, he must have looked at Harbaugh the wrong way and ended up in the doghouse.

"Permanent IR: Players with a major injury will be put on a team’s Injured Reserve (IR). These players may not return to the active roster for the rest of the season and the club retains their rights. These players are paid their full salaries or a split amount ( usually journeymen and later round picks) as negotiated in their contract.

in time for the playoffs.

Short term IR/Designated for Return: A new rule modified in 2012 allows one player per team to be reactivated from the IR list. A player with a major injury placed on the IR list must be immediately “designated for return”. The designated player is eligible to return to the active list if he has been on the IR for at least 8 weeks from the date he is placed on IR."

Dennis Pitta is our one Short term IR/Designated for Return player, so if the Ravens put any other player on IR, they are in effect, shelving the player for the rest of the year. They retain rights to the player, but he cannot comeback until the next year.

If they can't contribute, yeah - IR them.

Yeah I know the IR rules.  I just thought it was weird that you said they can't go on IR.

If anyone is hurt enough, they'll be on IR.

Yeah, I agree. I think the (later in his career) Jerome Bettis comparison was a better one, especially during his last 2-or-3 years.

But, it's just the idea of using Leach as a power RB that is something I like. I'm not asking for Vonta Leach to be used every drive. Rather, whenever the team needs that short yardage or needs to run down the clock, I think giving Leach the football has its benefits. At least he has the size to make-up for a run up-the-middle, when he can plow for positive yards, where as Rice or Pierce try to react (too much) to a collapsing o-line.

I think a better comparison to make would be a Leron Mclain.

No doubt. If Rice or Pierce were that injured, I highly doubt we would have seen them getting any burn the last couple of games. The OP stated very casually to put them on IR. Now that i re-read the comment, the OP was just stating the obvious, not suggesting it.

Well, I saw today that Beanie Wells did not impress at all.  However, they were very impressed by Bernard Scott.  I wouldn't be surprised if we signed him before Tuesday.

Beanie Wells is a former first round pick of the famous 2009 draft.  Bernard Scott had a good year (2009) with the Bengals and knows how to run, but why was he cut after only a few years since the 2009 draft?  Can he come in and play every other play?  I don't think so.  Best short-term option: Beanie!

Beanie Wells is past his prime and won't make it though the rest of the season if he is signed.  Bernard Scott had a few good years with the Jets and knows how to run.  Can he come in and play every other play?  I don't think so.  Best option: Ant!

When the hell was his Prime?!

So now we pick up the Cards scraps?! C'mon man!!

What else do you expect? There aren't exactly any super stars in the FA heap during week 8... Only scraps are left. If we're just looking for depth, scraps will suffice.
