This year did the Ravens pick the lineman on the roster to fit ZBS, or are they maulers?

22 posts in this topic

Are Wagner and Jensen maulers or ZBS guys? or both? If they drafted/chose players to fit Castillo and Caldwells offensive mold on ZBS and passing protection, are the Ravens in trouble moving forward if the ZBS is abandoned as the de facto offensive blocking scheme this year and thereafter???

Looking at Our OL depth, it is so weak now. This roster make up sucks IMO.

The Ravens have no idea about the O line or the blocking schemes.

It is starting to resemble a game show " Let's Make a Deal".

The roster is supposed to be set by now. Still guessing. What's behind door # 1 ?

Remember, this is John Harbaugh's team now.

I don't believe Wisconsin follows a zone blocking scheme. They generally just use their avg 6'5" 330lb frames to maul guys out of the way...so I'd say no for Rick Wagner

Wisconsin is a primarily a man Scheme man scheme.

Wagner isn't HUGE per say.  He's listed at 6'6 310.  So he's a good sized lineman.  But he could probably play a ZBS on the right team.

The ZBS is not inherently flawed, In fact, when executing it properly, it can be very good.

We just suck at it.

It wasn't Harbaughs team the past five years?

Of course not.  It was Rays

EDIT:

I'm being sarcastic.  It's Johns.  We're just not blocking very well.

This is said almost every year. Harbaugh stops radio shows - it's his team now. Harbaugh puts McAlister on IR and sticks with Flacco - it's his team now. Harbaugh starts Rice over McGahee - it's his team now. Starts Oher over Gaither - his team now. Cuts various veterans - his team now.

It seems Harbaugh never really gets credit for making his changes - good and bad. It's his team, it has been since he got here.

The ZBS is not new, we have drafted players for it. Jensen and Wagner probably do fit that but I don't know enough about them.

Oh I know, but I'm on a crusade to put an end to all this nonsense. Its one thing to criticize the team or to have concerns. But it's people that take it to obscene levels, and refuse to acknowledge all the great accomplishments this organization rewards us with every year, and come across as whiny, unintelligent fans that bother me. When people in the media start calling out our fan base, it's time to step back and evaluate ourselves...I'm sure PIT fans don't like the perception that they are all incestual rednecks, and NE fans are known to be pompous jerks. I don't like being lumped in that category.

As for Jensen and Wagner, I also do not know enough about Jensen, but I do think that in theory, Wagner is a good fit for ZBS.

Wagner is better suited for man blocking, but he's more than capable of playing in a zone scheme, I think. He's fairly athletic.

From what I've heard about Jensen, he'd be a good fit as well.

That's how I view him as well, however, he also has a loooong way to go, and I'm not sure if he will ever get there.

I think we se him at RT next year, and possibly at LG later this year if KO's back doesn't get better. I doubt his back will get better, so we might see Wagner starting sooner than later. I'd like him at LG.

Jensen is more Man.  Bigger than he is fast.

I think so too.  I really like what I've seen from Wagner, I'd like to see him at RT.  Seems like a hard working kid.

6'6" is a bit on the tall side, are the any good guards at that height and weight? Max Unger?

Not many. Carl Nicks and Iupati. They are steep comparisons though, and they are both heavier. Wagner is really good at bending though. Pad level is one of his strengths from what I've seen.

I remember DeCosta mentioning that he'd play guard or something after we drafted him. I'll try to find the video.

Wagner sucks. You all said it best " The coaches know how good the players are", " If they where any good they would be starting ". So by your OWN logic he's not good enough to start. Please stop contradicting yourselves.
