Seven Things with SAM. Late Monday Edition

OFFENSE

1. The offense has improved.

We played well as a whole offensively. Flacco spread the ball out.

We did not lose because of the offense.

2. The oline has gotten better.

Gino had a good game yesterday. Monroe looked good too. The only one who did not was Oher....

We still need Oher, but at this rate, RT might be a need in the draft.

3. Speaking of the Oline

Monroe > Mckinnie. Ozzie got us a franchise LT for NOTHING.

Down the season he should start playing like his normal self. He had a positive grade vs PIT.

Like Harbs or not, something changed this week.

4.  Doss is Boss

Need I say more? He's FINALLY looking like the guy we drafted.

5. Dallas Clark

Is developing chemistry with Joe Flacco.

When Pitta comes back. we actually might cut Dickson(which relieves Bajema) over Clark.

I expect more.....

6. Running Game still needs to get better.

*insert my usual rant about the run game here*

7. One More Weapon.

Would push this offense over the top.

This team might be a favorite NEXT SEASON. If Ozzie gets an adequate weapon next offseason.

DEFENSE

1. Outside Smith and Webb

CB is a need. Our depth sucks, and Graham sucks.....

2. We had a bad game

Happens. If the D would've shown up yesterday we would've won. Woulda coulda shoulda

3. I was wrong

About the pass rush, we need more.

4. Ngata has been beat up. Battered, lazy, and his not his old self.

Nuff said. Still important, but not the player he used to be.

5. Brandon Williams

Looked good. I hope there is more to come from him. We might have a steal with him.

I thought of him as.

"First round talent, small town guy"

6. Elam is Putting it together.

Elam looked good. He recorded a good stat line, and was active at the LOS. And he recovered a FF.

7. Dayrl Smith is a Boss

He's been a turnover machine so far. Forcing fumbles, getting INTs.

He is the second best player on the D right now.

Man, you're a optomistic one, aren't you?

If we cut Dickson this year would be the stupidest coaching move since ....uh... this year's stupid roster moves and decisions.

Only thing I'd say you're seriously off base on is the idea we might cut Dickson.

Yeah, I'm not sure what SAM was thinking with that one. If Dickson was still dropping catches, like he was up-until the Buffalo game, then, yeah; he wasn't doing much to be kept. But, after since Harbaugh told him to turn things around, both Clark and him have turned things around. Sure, Dallas Clark has been way better (almost as if he went back in time and came back as his '08 self); however, Ed Dickson has been decent, nonetheless.

If anything, if Dennis Pitta returns, I'm sure Billy Bajema will be the one who gets the boot, again.

all of our offseason moves have actually been justified including boldin(has had no production outside of the green bay game). Looking at pff, elam posted a 1.9, while reed has never graded out positively.  Just an example of how every player we "swapped", the one here has done much better.

Asa jackson will prove to be indispensable and invaluable as the nickel corner. He will be a beast at corner and punt returner(reminds me of webby with two acls). The entire d-line was fodder. The front 7 lost the game which is shocking since that is the strength of the team and it is tantamount to our season so far. Mediocrity marred by flashes of brilliance. Did I mention Marshall yanda and kelechi actually played like the best guard tandem in the league yesterday, according to PFF. Where was that all season?

What week can Asa come back? I totally forgot about that.

Only off season departure I think has looked good in games I've watched has been Ellerbee, but D. Smith has more than made up for his loss. Hopefully Jameel can get back to form sooner than later.

He's eligible after the Browns

To be fair, everything else you wrote about was mostly the truth, even if it was written tough-in-cheek.

So, yeah; you got me!  :D

OFFENSE

1. The offense has improved.

We played well as a whole offensively. Flacco spread the ball out.

We did not lose because of the offense.

Not sure if I would completely agree with this statement

2. The oline has gotten better.

Gino had a good game yesterday. Monroe looked good too. The only one who did not was Oher....

We still need Oher, but at this rate, RT might be a need in the draft.

Yanda made all the line calls yesterday which is something I thought would of been happening at the beginning of the year.

7. One More Weapon.

Would push this offense over the top.

This team might be a favorite NEXT SEASON. If Ozzie gets an adequate weapon next offseason.

I think the weapons are there, just need time to gel with Joe. Jones actually ran good routes, I like Marlon Brown as a possession guy as well as Doss.

DEFENSE

2. We had a bad game

Happens. If the D would've shown up yesterday we would've won. Woulda coulda shoulda

I am not sure the defense really had that bad of a game as Ben could not get the passing game going yesterday. Just the faceted of run defense was over pursuing.

3. I was wrong

About the pass rush, we need more.

We need to vary our looks. It seems like we keep running the same rush on passing downs.

Is it just me or does the offense kind of look like the training wheels are still on? As the weeks have gone by I have seen Joe get more comfortable with his receiving core. When do we take the wheels off and let our no huddle high octane offense loose? Or am I wrong about how I see it?

We didn't lose Yesterday because of the defense..

We kind of did. One of the worst offenses in the league punted a grand total of once in that game. The "Bend, don't break" offense stops working when it bends into the red zone on every drive.

Total yards Sunday Ravens-287 Pitt-286 Time of possession Ravens-28:59 Pitt-31:01. The Steelers were also 1-3 in the red zone Sunday. We also forced a fumble we were +1 in turnover diff. That defense gave us a opportunity to win that game. And The offense couldn't produce enough points. Shouldn't look at just one stat.

Lol on gino doing great. You obviously didnt see some of the 3&1 situations.

Dickson did good. Acrobatic catches + few yacs.

Great on his standards :P.

He played well IMO. Definantly improving.

Umm you say our o line looked great but our run game sucked. That falls on the o line. They did not play great!

Pit has a good run d.

Rice actually had holes sometimes to run through. We've improved a little. Especially since PIT is good vs the run

I fully agree on the offence. Harbaugh promised schematic changes, and I think we saw them. At any rate, we weren't letting defenders walk into the backfield like we did against GB. I'm also convinced that we managed to get the run game going after a few nice passing plays. Instead of always running on first down, we mostly ran when they stretched the field to shut down Joe's options and it worked really well. Like I said in the draft forum, I really feel like our o-line problems are scheme-related rather than personnel-related, and aside from the adjustments we made this week I think we'll get better as Gino gets more experience.

A big problem remains short yardage situations (and I feel like we had the same problem last season), and I don't really know how to fix that. Maybe a few passes off quick slants would keep the opponents guessing. Two plays I really liked were that Flacco bootleg on the Clark score, and the QB sneak. Beyond that, I'm not sure how to make 3rd and 1 a more sure thing.

On defence, I really hope you're right about our run defence just having a bad game. I have to say, though, that I'm not quite convinced just yet. We did well against the Dolphins, but the Bills, Packers and now Steelers have all thoroughly gashed us. I don't know what the problem there is - maybe we just missed Bynes or didn't use Upshaw enough or something along those lines.

One thing you didn't mention Bynes was out and that contributed to the run game having issues I know  he isn't a favorite on this forum but if you actually watch him he is a good run defender . The offense definitely improved we should be able to build on that . Special teams need to become special again this year talent there is lacking .

Is this entire thread a  joke or parts of it , I answered as if it was a discussion. I tend not to pick up sarcasm unless its blatant .

I agree completely. At the end of the day, the defense only gave up 17 points. 3 of Pittsburghs scoring drives came after special teams gave up a long return or butchered an onside kick.

The Ravens have got to start running the ball if they are going to win some games.

Our problem is our blocking scheme plus a weak weak Gino at C. Pitt should should have been crushed by us but there is no drive, passion, or fire on the offensive side of the ball at all.

I'm not making excuses . we lost allot of starters, have allot of new players, and allot of young players as well . all of that explains exactly what we are going through and any intelligent football fan knows this and doesn't rant and rave and scream the sky is falling when it isn't that isn't me . I support my team and if everyone would stop screaming and actually watch the games they will see progress is being made to becoming the team we need to be .

We have a younger team than we did last year..

I kind figured we'd tank a little this year.

We're not bad, but we're not playing great either. We're mediocre.

If the offense does get going though we'll play better.

But reality is that Ozzie needs a good draft.

I agree with everything you have said and would add that the offensive changes I saw sunday make me think the offense will get going Yanda and Osemele are playing injured Gino is inexperience BUT he's playing better , no clue what the whole yanda tapping his shoulder  before ever snap is about , unless yanda is calling protections and he isn't ,

We do need a good draft Ozzie is one of the best at finding good talent anywhere in the draft that never worries me .

Another reality winning a superbowl back to back is incredibly hard to do and undefeated seasons almost impossible .Joe Flacco is just as good as Manning, Brees, Rodgers and Brady. I rarely sound off but the ranting and raving is  getting old .Benching rookies, firing coaches, trading players just stop let the coaches work on fixing things.

to be homest ozzie hasnt been anywhere near as good in drafting as he was in his first 7or 8years. its been pretty average and the last 4 years, at least in the first round...pretty crap.
