Bye Week thoughts

49 posts in this topic

What do you think?

I know the team and we fans especially need the time away.  Do we come back and beat two divisional foes?  The last couple weeks I have been disgusted by our lack of play.  I keep waiting for that 'kick in the ass' that we seem to need.

Or do we continue down the same path...

We improved a lot today, despite the loss. we looked better on offense. The line, despite struggling early on, struggled less than previous weeks. The line really only struggled when faced with a blitz, and they picked up the blitz better than they have all season. They even blocked a little better in the run game. Caldwell looked great.

I think our dline is beat up and hurt, which is why they haven't been playing well in recent weeks. Dumervil has been slightly disappointing to me.

The bye week will be great for scouting our current guys, working on schemes, and getting healthy. It came at a perfect time.

The way it sounds, the team will be working until probably the end of the week. They're supposedly practicing. They need it. They'll get the weekend off. They better enjoy that because nothing will be fun about the rest of the season if nothing gets fixed.

We lost to one of the worst teams in the NFL.  Not the Bills, but one of the worst.  And we barely got pressure on Big Ben.  And once again, the defense could not stop a late minute drive.  I was hoping for OT.  Our defense prevented otherwise.  I don't think we improved.

They certainly are. Second to last against the run (before playing us), 2-4 record currently, etc etc. They just always play us tough

Nope. They're not. Just because a team begins 1-4 doesn't mean they're the one of or the worst team in football.

You people and your stats and records.

I suppose the next thing you will say is that the KC Chiefs had this miraculous return because of Andy Reid, when in fact, that defense has been stout for at least 2 seasons prior to 2013 and simply didn't have competent QB play....

...go ahead - say it...

I won't say it. What I will say is that Reid is definitely the coach of the year right now. Of course, the season doesn't end after today either.

Don't believe coaching was the issue on defense to be honest.

I didn't see intensity in anyone other than Suggs and Dumervil (at times).

Dumervils wasn't exactly helpful as it was drawing penalties, he needed to be smarter about that.

The bye right now could not have come at a better time. We had a D-Line with various injuries, and that really hurt us today. Ngata has some issues, Spears is dealing with his thigh injury, Canty has some, so all in all our defense has nagging injuries that hopefully they can rest and heal over the next two weeks. I do not expect them to play like that again this season. I certainly hope they don't with RB's like AP looming on our schedule. If we come roaring back after the bye and win two divisional games, hope is still alive.

As for the offense, they really have stepped up in a major way. It started at the end of the second half against Green Bay and I think is carrying on.

It's simple, let the offense run through Joe and we will win football games. The run is simply not very effective this year and once we let Joe take the reigns of the offense we will start winning. He is our best player on offense. We need to start treating him like it. I liked the offensive lines progression, they looked solid. Don't get me wrong, they had some troubles, but they were solid, and run blocking slightly improving has given me hope. I think we went into this game unhealthy on the D-Line and the bye will be beneficial to us.

Go Ravens

Fun fact:

Under the Harbaugh era, the team has always finished the rest of the season after the bye week with an above .500 record in the rest of their games.

2008: 10-5

2009: 6-4

2010: 7-2

2011: 9-3

2012: 5-4

They still have one of the best defenses in the league and while we did lose, I actually like what I have seen from the offense. We put the game more in Joe's hands and got good results, even the run game improved a bit. It's not much, but it is a positive development we can build on. Hopefully we will and not try to go back to running on 1st and 2nd downs thing. -_-

The coaching staff needs to pull it together. I don't think we lost to one of the worst teams in the NFL, but I think we needed to do a better job. I'm done with Castillo and Caldwell, and this defense should be playing at a much higher level.

Can't emphasize enough that this bye week came at a perfect time. We need it

I think it would have been a little more perfect one week earlier, but you're right. The two weeks of rest, practice and planning will be of great help moving forward. We're not that far off from being a contender and don't have any huge holes that can't be fixed. With the bulk of our divisional schedule in front of us we can still make some noise, possibly win the division.

to be honest as pur secondary doesnt possess 1 lockdown corner or ball hawk saftey (webb isnt himself and jimmy is just ok slash average) itdosnt shock me teams find it easy to make a big playwhen it matters against us.

I'll tell you this... I didn't even hear Jimmy Smiths name yesterday. For a corner, that usually says he was good.

Oh these are fun! Let me spit out some more fun facts

The Ravens never lose 2 games in a row! Wait..

The Ravens win basically every game after a bye or with extra prep time! Hold on a sec...

The Ravens win every game when Ray Rice gets 22 touches or more! Hmmm, not true

The Ravens have never been below .500 in the John Harbaugh era! Ouch...looks like that one is gone too

The Ravens are a "smash mouth, run-first" team that don't take no sass. Psh

Our tendencies are vanishing at a surprising rate. We need to stop talking about the past as if it's relevant at all.

He's playing great. I think he gave up two plays but that's not bad. I think he's playing the way we drafted him to play. He clearly had a learning curve

Will it be a brutal practice and endless film sessions? More game planning or player meetings? I would like to think so. I really hope they use the bye week to their advantage.

You forgot......

Ravens always win when Flacco throws more than 2 passes to RICE that are on the Left hash mark and ONLY when a CB is on the outside of RICE. If that CB is on the inside of RICE. Ravens are only 2 and 8  HUH

Ravens always win  if the RAVENS score 2 FG within 3 mins of each other, but Bu only if its in the 3rd quarter.

..................................... sHall i continue... lol

Anyone notice that in the last 2 to 3 yrs, this yr especially. The media are bending soooo many numbers to make a team look good or bad.  You have to be Rain man understand all the B.s they come up with.  And it only getting worse.
