The official ____, sucks, cut____, melt thread - Week 7

you mean the great spot that gave them an automatic FG and a 7 point lead which then puts them in complete control even if we do score? yea, great spot. because it played out about as bad as it could have minus allowing a TD instead of FG

Yup. It was a good call.

If Pittsburgh loses to Oakland, and the Jets beat the Bengals next week, that will prove nobody wants to win this division.

A better Steelers team lost to a worse Raiders team last year.

I heard Vinny on 1057 explain why the onside kick made sense and his explanation makes sense. I even agree with the call now. The defense was playing bad. They wanted them to score quick.

dude they had 13 points... thats not "bad" defense by any means. sure we were getting run on, but still made a third down stop after the onside. too bad it wasnt a third down stop 50 yards further back. thats where the onside killed us. they were going to run it, and if you cant force a punt eventually when a team is running, you shouldnt win.

this is the ravens. not the jags. have a sack, kick the ball off, make a stop, and let your SB QB go win the game instead of tying it.

Both are good possibilities.

Right... and if that onside kick would have worked and we would have won, we all be praising Harbaugh right now.

Oh and also fire the OL coach. Bring in the OL Coach on the college team that keeps producing major NFL O-line players.

That onside kick was uncalled for. It didn't work. It's a dumb call and if it did work there is no guarantee we score. So save the "ifs" and "buts". That call was not needed in that situation.

The Steelers only punted once, on their first drive of the game. The failed onside kick wouldn't have made a difference. Steelers drove at will.

Didn't we only have one punt?

The onside kick is the play that's the biggest question.  I'm not totally against the decision, but I think it was very poorly executed.  Tucker didn't do the greatest job kicking it.  A lot of the guys on the coverage unit didn't make it seem like an ordinary kick off - they kind of let on that it was going to be a trick play.  And lastly, the Steelers ST looked ready for it.  They looked like they knew it was coming.

And the one thing youre taught not to do on that kick is be offsides. Btw does anyone remember who was offsides on that?

Hey, at least we're still the defending champs. It's extremely hard and unlikely for a team to repeat.

that must be the same attitude that offensive line has right now because they dont care to block at all

The onside kick is forgivable imo. With the way the defense couldn't get off the field, why not just give Pittsburgh that short field and take less time off the clock.

Too many people are apologists for the defense. Dean Pees needs to be on the hot seat.

This was the first time since 1983 that any team held the Steelers to less than 24 points, didn't turn the ball over, and had at least one takeaway in Pittsburgh... and lost the game.  23-game winning streak in such situations snapped.

It was an attempt at a surprise, so doing it in situations where armchair QBs think it's warranted is kind of what they were trying to avoid.  Too bad our PLAYERS couldn't even pull that off without committing penalties.  Shaddap, 'bro,'.

"@WNST: Nestor: I don't love that risk on onside kick. Giving them 50 yards of turf? I don't get it in 4-point game...head scratcher, bad decision!"

Exactly what I just said.

It's not smart football. So the excuse was that the defense was playing poorly? So the solution is to give them the ball on the 50 in the 4th quarter.... Right. C'mon man!

No it's not.  We were what.  27th in run defense last year?  They really turned the D around.  the problem was the onside kick gave them 3.

We were 20th against the run, (improving as the year went on), and 17th overall.

The only thing that slowed down Pittsburgh run today was when they decided to pass. It's possible Bell got tired, but our defense is not as was hyped and its not sufficiently disciplined. Too many costly penalties.

If we are starting afresh and its pretty clear we are. It's time to bring in new Office personnel as well. They made some good decisions in their decade to 15 years, but its not working that way now.  We should have won 3 Superbowls with the team they officially disbanded in the offseason and the new team is a ways away.

i don't care what some Tweet says.  It was GREAT football and would be praised as the play of the game if our guys actually would have done it the right way.  C'mon man.

Thats no excuse to play like we plan on drafting BridgeWater.

Jeremy Miles. A special teams ace.

Of course it would be praised. The 4th and 29 check down to Rice was praised as one of the best plays of the season. Was it a smart football play? Not at all. Was it one of those freak plays that would probably never happen again? Absolutely.

If we had gotten the ball in on 4th and 1 last week, Harbs would have been praised for not giving up on the run.

Nestor is an idiot, and he never says anything that makes sense.

The fact is the Ravens were not stopping the run for whatever reason. A properly executed onsides kick, at an unexpected time has a very high rate of recovery. If it's not recovered it gives the opposition much less opportunity to take time off the clock while still having the potential to force a 3 and out. We also had offensive momentum and if we recover there probably go down and take the lead. The end result wasnt ideal, but it wasnt the reason we lost. We lost because we couldnt stop the run or get off the field when it mattered most.

IT was a good move last week too.

I think that's what Ngata's attitude is. Got his huge contract, won a Super Bowl, next up Rofo buffet.

I think it's ok for a fan to think this way but certainly not the players.

Maybe we should have QB snuck it like we did today  :229031_cheer:

Ngata got his contract, Rice got his contract, Harbaugh got his contract , Mckinnie got is contract.

I see a pattern.
