Did the Browns get the last laugh with the Colts?

15 posts in this topic

When the trade was finalized I could only shake my head as the Browns sent Andrew Luck and the Colts a potential work horse of a running back, Trent Richardson.

But as things have progressed... Trent looks like he's running in our Ravens offense. Though he has only played in 4 games his numbers are far from impressive and worthy of a high draft pick. 61 carries for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns (3.1 YPC). On a positive not he hasn't fumbled, but hasn't looked like any more than a bruiser. And has been out performed by every other back on the roster.

Jim Brown said that he only looked "average" coming out of college, was he on to something or is he just learning a new offense?

It's too early to judge the trade thus far, but i think all players from Alabama are overrated.  Outside of Julio Jones, I can't think of one who has lived up to expectations over the past few years.

I came around to Cleveland's thinking, and I think they did pull off a good move.  There's no reason to pay a running back in today's league, and Richardson can only lose value from this point forward.  It's not like he was lighting it up before the trade.

I don't know why i'm just realizing this but I have to agree with you. The only other player that has been a game changer is Marcell Dareus in my opinion. Holy crap lol

Other than that all role players

The Browns did get the last laugh in the trade imo.

Half the starting RB's in the NFL are from the 2nd round or lower. You can get a quality back in the later rounds as long as he fits your scheme, he will be succesful. So giving up a first to get one from another team is just wrong.

The question for me is, what are the Browns going to do with the pick?

Just goes to show how excellent of a coach Nick Saban is. Bringing players in and making them look like all-stars when, if they played for another school/coach, would be just your average role player.

As far as Richardson goes... the guy just came off an extremely impressive rookie season in which, other than Josh Gordon, was the Browns only offensive weapon. The guy busted off almost 1,000 yards, 11 TD's, and had 51 catches for around 400 yards. That's not a bad stat line. Definitely not a stat line a bust would pull off. Has anyone even seen the Colts O-Line this year? It's just about as bad as ours is. Nobody is calling Ray Rice a bust.

I couldn't agree more regarding Alabama players. I think they're the most overrated players in college football. Barron, Millner, Fluker, McClain, etc. I think Upshaw has been one of the better players they have had recently not withstanding Jones. Dareus has been good but I wouldn't even call him great. Warmack has been good but top 10 pick? I don't know. Richardson wasn't. He wasn't even my top RB that year--my top RB was Martin. I called him a Ray Rice clone and I still feel that's true.

I think they just are the most polished rookies but I don't think they have the highest ceilings.

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't come to that realization that long ago.  I think the biggest joke from that program is Mark Ingram.  I wonder if it's more of a thing where they're so well coached and their players across the board are so good for a college team that it makes everyone look better than they are.  Plus so many of them have 'secret' injuries and have been beat to death during their college careers.

The real debate is who the worst player to come from Alabama is.  I'm leaning toward Mark Ingram, he was a first round pick who's done absolutely nothing in this league.

I guess Saban coaches these guys like NFL players so they have that advantage on the college level. But when everyone else catches up and gets that training they don't appear as special anymore.

That's all I've been thinking about as well, Jim Brown comments along with the fact that Trent seeks contact too much, he runs into guys to try and run over them.

A couple buddies and I always talk about that at work. How Alabama has this college dynasty going but none of their Pros amount to anything. It's not like how Miami or USC were putting a ton of guys in the pros and they had playmakers and impact players at various positions.

The same can be said for LSU D-linemen, their good but not what they were expected to be for top notch draft picks. Dorsey, T.Jackson, that's why guys like D.Nevis fell a little lower.

On another note*.
I think a couple guys will break that trend for Bama

Amari Cooper is solid, he looks like he can be good WR
TJ Yeldon is also a dynamic player.

Richardson is not a game changing player. He's also soft for a supposed power runner. The browns absolutely won the trade. The browns huge mistake was originally drafting him so high.

Right now it looks that way. But it's still too early to tell IMO. I still think he'll be a beast but the Browns should have never drafted him that high.

The Colts are trying to win now and didn't want to be one dimensional. They are a playoff bound team that addressed their inbalance. There could have been a better way to go about it though.

I think the Colts thinking is that Richardson is worth a lower first rounder. They have a balanced team with him and a good 1-2 running punch. I think it was a win-win, until Wayne got hurt.

However, Cleveland did make out big as a result.
