Over Crowded Positions

38 posts in this topic

We need to come up with solutions like we have a lot of Wide Receivers we need to cut down by at least making some room on the roster like if Brandon Stokley and Deonte Thompson keep getting hurt then we put them on IR to stash them away so we can add players to positions that are plague with injuries

Isnt wide receiver one of the positions where we've been plagued with injuries?

lol was thinking same thing. If we put Brandon and Deonte on IR doesnt that leave us with 4 wr? Not good idea.

Is there a practice squad for posting?

You put people on IR who have injuries and are unable to play at all because of it. This your first year watching Football? Also cut WRs when WR has been a thin area for most of the season because of injuries?

I think overcrowded may be a poor choice of words, some positions have need more Depth than others. The only position we might be " overcrowded"and I'm only saying that because the unit is playing poorly, but we
have depth at OL that seems useless at the moment. Ex.. Jah Reid, taking up a roster spot, and we are still holding onto an active spot for Jensen without having seen any game action, but I read he will be listed as a guard/ center for depth. Mckinnie is now also expendable much like Jah Reid.

I do not agree with the WR reference because although Marlon brown has been a surprise the production from all of the Other WRs combined is only about 100 yds more than Torrey has by himself. The WR position has been plagued with injuries, so far depth has been a concern, furthermore with Jones & Thompson available now if they can remain healthy and productive to go along with Doss & Brown playing better then more than likely Stokley would become expendable then.

Yeah I mean, I think Brandon is kind of right, but he always presents his ideas horribly.  We do have extra depth at positions, but putting them on IR to sign some of his random UDFA loves is absurd.

Like you said, we probably have 1 too many lineman.  I think when Jensen is ready to play, Reid is likely gone.  McKinnie may still be traded, but it looks likely that we'll just keep him around for depth.  Stokley looks like a wasted spot as well, but he may just be a placeholder for Jackson or McClain as I mentioned in another thread.  Safety may also have an extra, unneeded spot, but they seem to love Miles and Levine for ST.

We're light at RB and CB.  CB will be solved with Jackson.  It seems like they're just biding time for a RB, I'd expect a move to be made there at some point.

Thought this thread was gonna be about ILB.  Smith,Brown, Bynes, McClain, McClellan .

It could be if you want to discuss that. It's not limited to one position.

Eh, it's common for a 3-4 team to have 4-5 ILBs on a roster, especially with Brown and Bynes rotating so much and McClain being hurt.

Yea it's definitely a good problem to have.

And the fact that McClain technically isn't on the roster... yet.

I made the comment because of the talent not necessarily the number of players.  With McClain healthy that's 4 that could start any day for us.

This thread should read... with McClain, Jackson, and Pitta set to make returns this year... who goes and who stays. For McClain I think Stokley will be one(can't stay healthy and the young WRs are starting to gel with Flacco)... if Jensen turns out to be good enough then Reid is another for Jackson but the third is up in the air... do we release Bajema again or hope we can trade somebody before the trade deadline for picks before Pitta/Jackson returns.

On another thought if we are never going to use Taylor as a qb or any type of package if our WRs aren't healthy could we use him as a slot wr or Hback like Cobb... even as a decoy. The man is electric with ball and open space. If god forbid either is hurt in the process and mostly Flacco gets hurt the season could done for at the time anyways. This offense revolves around his arm... any thoughts.
