Anyone worried about DT Haloti Ngata?

Ngata has been consistently stellar against the run this season. A few plays where he used bad technique, but he is playing NT, that's not a position that is going to accumulate stats.

The problem is he offers little pass-rush. We are better off with Canty and Jones in there in sub-packages. Ngata just isnt cutting it as a pas-rusher.

He definitely isnt playing up to his contract, but overall he is playing at a very high level. I would hate to see the defense without him. The difference between having him at NT this year compared to Kemo/Cody last year is enormous.

He's playing great, but he should be playing better for what he's being paid. Still, he's been an essential part of this run defense.

This exactly.  A terrible beginning of the season has had a turn around.  He's doing well, but nowhere near well enough to equate to what he's being paid.

I honestly think Art Jones will be gone next year.  Hopefully we can slide Ngata back to DE and he can get back to a high level. His job in the middle is basically to eat blockers, but if you put him back out on the end, there's a chance he could have a resurgence.  It's not guaranteed, but I think that's where his value lies.  I think you could roll with Williams or Cody on a cheap contract at NT.

Playing Williams as our starting NT scares me a little. He doesn't look the part to me as of yet, but I think he has potential to be very good. Once he learns how to use his hands and keep a low pad level, he could be dominant with his physical ability.

I understand that the nose tackle position isn't a stat position. I disagree, Ngata was getting pushed back as much as 5 yards on run plays, while not even being double teamed a few weeks ago. For what he's being paid, he should be holding his position, while being double teamed and still be making plays against the run. The first Steeler game is a great example of how bad he's been.

Rushing the passing, I think he's been a lot better. Ngata's not going to get sacks, but he's been ok at collapsing the middle of the pocket.

I'm not sure what you are watching, but I couldnt disagree more. Ngata is barely generating any push at all as a pass-rusher (to be fair he does get doubled a lot) and the plays where he gets blown of the line against the run are extremely rare.

You're probably right. I really only key in on him on running plays.

For sure. It's hard to predict right now since there's no way of knowing who will be on the team. Williams has been off and on. Sometimes he looks like he can step in immediately, and other times he looks like he needs more time. It's a wait and see thing.

You can't win and then complain about it because it makes the cap tough.

You obviously don't play enough Madden. Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald only see the field when I run 4 or 5 wide on my team

I wouldn't say extremely rare, it does happen more often than I'd like, but nowhere near enough to be concerned about it.
What does bother me though is that I've seen him get washed away several times this year one on one....that was unthinkable when he was still in his prime

Yup, he used to never get beat 1v1, but it does happen on occassion. I would still say the majority of the battles he wins though.

Yeah, not like he's hurting the team when he's out there...seems that's what some people think. He just isn't worth his contract anymore. Sucks to say it, he's one of my favorites

Agreed. I don't think he is going anywhere though, at least not yet.

It just seems it's one nick after the other with Haloti. Just when it seems he is healthy and strong, something else pops up. I'm not sure he'll ever find the consistency he once had. One thing that can't be denied, the man works hard, answers the bell every time his number is called and has played through a lot of pain. He plays like a Raven.

What pro athlete doesn't " work hard"?. I'm thinking that working hard in the offseason needs to be paramount for him. I just don't see it.

Maybe losing some of his spare tires would help him to feel healthier. That kind of weight places a lot of stress on the lower body. I've heard from people who weighed 100 lb less than him that said they felt revitalized when they lost a couple dozen lb.
