Anyone worried about DT Haloti Ngata?

193 posts in this topic

As has been stated, so much of the money is guaranteed that somebody would have to offer something ridiculous for me to even consider trading him. At this point though, I do have to be disappointed. I don't know what it is with his body, but the last time he played fully healthy was the first half of the 2011 season, two calendar years ago.

He can be a big part of games in the first half and slow down in the 2nd. Maybe he's out of shape?

If im not mistaking this is his first season as a NT isn't it? He's been dominate is a 3-4 end his whole career. It might be time to put him back at his natural position and start Brandon Williams at NT until Cody come's back.

Worst thing is, this very average performance so far is likely to get much worse as the year goes on, if he follows the pattern of the last three years.  His last great game was against the Jets two years ago, he's disappeared in almost every once since save for a couple plays here and there.

I can't imagine another team thinking "ah jeez...we have to go up against Haloti Ngata this week.  Can we win?"

In my view this is his 3rd year in decline. But, sometimes you get the bad with the good. The good being Ray Lewis and Ed Reed and their durability. Ngata was an unstoppable force, but either lack of motivation, growing family or injuries have plagued him. However, I think it is really a combination of those 3 factors that are causing Ngata's limited production.

What we do with him? I don't know if we can do anything other than hope and pray that his play changes back to being dominant.

That was Buddy Lee's position for years i thought.

You're right.

Ngata has played pretty much everywhere on the line though.

Someone I know said that players of his heritage tend to have leg problems. I don't know if that is true or not, but it seems apparent he's injured too.

However, the guys earned a ring. They may not be as motivated. It's tough to get back.

I really love Haloti. He was so dominant in his first years, he was on a Hall of Fame pace. Injuries have just accumulated over the years, and unfortunately he will just never be the same. It's tough to have nagging injuries over the years, while your consistently playing in the trenches getting double teamed.

We won't release him or trade him for the obvious cap reasons. But it wouldn't be a total shock if he retired before his contract is up.

At least he's on the field playing. Not like WEBB can't play a full year and sucking on a $50 million dollar deal.

did we end up giving him a ridiculous signing bonus too?

Not really, 10 million on a 50 million deal with 20 guaranteed.  Pretty reasonable and safe.

I'm starting to think Ngata critics are right about him. He's just not playing good football. The Steelers ran up the middle all day and Ngata got pushed back every play.

I repeat He's not a good nose tackle but a dominate 3-4 end.

Ngata looks like he's done . I hate to say this but he is way underperforming . He was embarrassing today . I don't think I have ever seen him get pushed around as much as I saw today .

No... he's not dominant in any facet of the game right now.

Look, I was the one ringing the bell last year... All by myself. The decline this year is really dramatic, almost unthinkable. He wasn't good last year either. He's downright horrible now.

Never thought i'd say I miss Cody. But when he went down the run D just hasn't been the same. Did he play today?

Cody has actually been very good this year.  I don't think any of us realized how much those injuries were affecting his last season.  He didn't play today, but did practice in a limited capacity throughout the week.  I imagine he'll be close to, if not ready after the bye.

He's playing too high and he's noticeably weaker. He looks a lot smaller. His legs used to be tree trunks, and his arms were massive too. He doesn't look nearly as muscular as he used to.

I thought he would be the kind of guy that would condition himself to only get better as years go by.   He was suppose to outlast, out work players like Wilfork (whose been around forever).   He was suppose to be THAT guy... but nope.

Soon as he got paid, his production started declining.  His condition, his strength, his injuries, and his ever climbing salaries...

Now he became that guy.... Disappointing doesn't do justice.  Im pissed.

I'm not worried about Ngata at this point. Cody should be back next week and that will give Ngata a chance to rest up. The Raven's haven't looked great on defense this year and some of it is the players and some of it is the most unimaginative scheme known to man. I just don't think that the Ravens are at their best when they just line up and don't disguise anything. That gives a considerable advantage to the offense. I predict that next year, or sooner, that Steve Spagnuolo will take over the defense. Harbaugh talked about being aggressive in his press conference...Pees' scheme is anything but This has been evident since he became the d-coordinator last year. His vanilla defenses nearly cost the Ravens a Superbowl and they may cost them the playoffs this year.

By the end of this season I think Castillo, Pees and maybe even Caldwell will be gone. Someone has to get some production out of this offense. Cam couldn't do it, and it appears neither can Caldwell. The Superbowl run was just a team that wanted it more than everyone else. I'm sure that Bisciotti is getting tired of seeing his franchise quarterback do next to nothing each game. I know I am.

That being said, maybe the Raven's coaches can use the reality of not making the playoffs to finally motivate these player to play better. I really hope so, because I'm seriously looking forward to the Ravens dashing the hopes of the Broncos again this year. That game was priceless!

He's not going hard in the weight room, that's evident . He's very soft looking. Even his backside shows he's not doing much if anything in the offseason.

Well he was injured this offseason.  He was gimpy all the way til OTAs.  But this all stems from the last offseason, when he decided to be fat.

Was his whole body hurt? If you can't work on one facet of training... you can focus on at least cardio with low impact . He was winded while standing on the sidelines. He doesn't have a killer instinct and he's a slug.

Ngata looks lazy. He's not playing through the whistle. Early on this year he had inconsistent splash plays. Now he has none. He looks unmotivated. I never saw him as a leader but I'm concerned his laziness is rubbing off on others. I've even begun to question whether it was all Cody last year or if it was Ngata too.

Ngata used to take plays of here and there but would show up for big games at least. Now he's being shown up by others. He's being eliminated. If this is who he is I'm frankly done with him.
