Growing pains. I liked Rick Wagner's block on the Pierce TD lol

What kind of package we're using? Forgot the name....jumbo package?

No idea what we call it but it's a basic uneven line where we substitute a TE for a Tackle.

Wagner is the LT of the future if you ask me. He's already a better run blocker than McKinnie.

His pass blocking will get there. I feel like he was just panicky when he was thrown into the fire against Denver. Typically, he doesn't get happy feet like that. He's usually very good with his footwork.

I know it's rare for a fifth round tackle to be a long term LT guy, but I read that some GMs gave this guy a very high grade. Some had him rated as the third best LT in the draft.

Hopefull, he'll turn out like Jared Gaithers...

The commentator said it's commonly used in the NFL.....but it's good that it works great against one of best front 7 in the NFL...

I forget who asked me about OL grades yesterday, but they were horrific this week.  Someone made the argument that they're getting better week to week and that's simply not true, which I what I saw watching the games live.  I thought the line looked best in Denver and has progressively got worse, which is apparently what the tape showed.  Almost everyone on the offense yesterday had a negative grade, and the only minor positives were Dallas Clark and Torrey Smith.

Every player on the offensive line, even Marshall Yanda, had a really bad day yesterday.  It's hard picking a real standout of suck because Oher, McKinnie, and Gradkowski were all so close.  Oher allowed 2 sacks and a hurry, Gino allowed a sack and three hurries giving the worst pass blocking grade of the day, Yanda allowed 3 hurries, and McKinnie allowed a hit and a hurry to go along with his horrendous day of penalties.  When KO looked like our best lineman, which we know he isn't given his struggles, you know that's a bad day.

Man that was a ugly game, which is what it looked like live.  I'm worried we might be stuck with what we have at this point in the season, which is disheartening.  We can't pass protect and we can't run the ball, and that's not a successful recipe for wins.

Hey at least we don't have the New York Giants O-Line. Talk about Disastrous.

Rewatch the last drive of the game, and the Cincy game last year. Gino is more than capable of moving players.

Jensen has never played center before, and his measurables are just about the same as Gino's. I know he's the one not playing so he's the popular name, but that doesn't actually make him a better player.

Actually, Jensen played center from Peewee through High School.  The position is not unfamiliar to him.  CSU-P liked his speed and footwork and found him better suited as a tight tackle.  He excelled at pass pro, and was a ferocious blocker in the run game.  No, he has not played NFL center, but to say that he has never played the position before is inaccurate.

It only really works for us when we run off tackle (see the two attempts Pierce took from the 1 yard line). Seems like every time we go up the gut, we get stuffed (see Birk, Gino)

It's not Pittsburgh Steelers bad, but it's certainly a concern.

As someone who lives in NY, that isn't particularly true. In addition to the horror that is David Diehl, they are breaking in a rookie tackle in Pugh. They have lost lost Bennett and Bradshaw who were excellent pass blockers. This unit has had tremendous turnover over the years and fortunately the giants have been able to replace pieces (Ballard for Bennett), but couldn't this year.

I wonder if Harbs is watching different tape than us or just protecting his players when he says pass protection was excellent.  I'd qualify it as average at best, and Joe has been under duress quite a bit.  At least that's what it looked like to me.

Just a side note, Gino Gradkowski is PFF's lowest center thus far.  Depending on how you filter the positions, KO is the 52nd ranked guard, Oher is the 55th ranked tackle, and McKinnie is the 58th ranked tackle.  And people wonder why the offense has looked inconsistent at best.

This Oline has been horrendous. Only one offensive lineman has scored a positive grade through the first three according to pro football focus. They can't run block, they are sub-par in pass protection and they completely lack any type of coherent chemistry. If we want to have any shot of repeating this unit needs to improve dramatically.

I guess it's better they suck in week three then week 17.

It seems that each week they are working really hard to fix some part of our play. Maybe this week  it will be the run game. I can at least wish it is. ;)

I'm sure that's been the focus for three weeks. Maybe it is just getting to the right guy like Harbs is hinting, but something has got to change for us to be real contenders.

What I mean is after the Denver game he was talking about how the defense needed to gel. Then they were better against the Browns but the secondary still had communication problems. On his Mon. press conference after the Browns game, Harbs said they had to work on the secondary working together better. They were doing great against Houston. Then this Mon. Harbs gets emphatic that they have to fix the run game. I expect it to get considerably better for this weeks game against the Bills. At least I hope so because I agree with you. We MUST get that run game fix within the next couple of games to be contenders.

I'm sure the run game and the oline has been under constant coaching.

All elements of the game are.  It's not like the Oline is ever not working.

I'll be interested to see buffalo.  We've gone against some good run fronts.  So a weak front we better run all over them.

Our O is not all that bad. It's not great but aisnt terrible. I Lay a fa amount of blame on Flaco. Sure it's not just him but an SB MVP on a 120mill contract needs and should be able to gel with his WR by now. He should also be able to bend his game slightly to make the conections work.  The WR's are  connecting espeacially smith but flaco doesnt seem to be able to lead them to the pass and there getting shut down as soon as there hands hit the ball which isnt allowing for extra yardage on plays.  I still would love to see Taylor out on the field for a game. His style of QB play is where the game is headed. Fast and Explosive. Taylor looks to me alot more like Romo relaxed but very alert. I think J.F's bigest problem is his awareness. He just doesnt seem to be aware of what is happning around him and is getting sacked instead of getting out the pocket and runnin/throwing away. And that is hurting ofensivly. The Offense line can only hold the D for so long. eventually someone will get through and sack the QB. Joe has patience but then doesnt move he stays in that pocket of doom and bang gets hit. He has to learn to move or Ofensivly were gonna suck all season.

I agree, Taylor would be an awesome receiver. I've seen him make great one handed catches in practice. I'm sure he wouldn't drop any of Flacco's passes.

Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider 1h

Although he wasn't on the injury report Wednesday, Bryant McKinnie was limping around at practice.

Oh man, again? Can someone tell me, if anyone adressed this? I don't want Oher back at LT.

Sweet Pea caught him on the top of the foot with her heel.  :P

I haven't seen any explanation for the limp. Just read it wasn't serious.

I actually agree with you....

I like Wagner. LT of the Future.

And RT's grow on trees.  So finding another one won't be hard if Oher loves.

If you ask me. The Oline Woes fall on the obvious

1.ZBS.

2. Young Center

Besides, the last three teams we played all had good dlines. Even the Broncos had some talent there.

We will get better as the season goes on.

I'm not too worried about pass blocking. Run blocking is a concern.

As to my opinion on the subject, cut McKinnie!

Nooo! Not yet at least. Wagner is not ready, and he's the only other player remotely ready to play LT in the NFL. McKinnie is fine for now.

On the OL as a whole, I'm excited to see them at work tomorrow. The Bills may have a badly ranked run D, but we should all know that they have serious talent on their defensive front. It'll be a good indication of how our offense has improved, and what still needs fixing.
