Ray Rice and Haloti Ngata under-performing

163 posts in this topic

Ray Rice will be a Raven for the duration of his contract. It will never make sense from a Cap Hit or even a Fan perception perspective to cut or trade him. Now, how do we keep him productive and healthy? I think we need to use him more as a slot receiver in that 'Welker' type role. He's still proven to be dynamic catching the ball and making a guy miss - Bubble screens, Quick Hitches, Drags etc.

Teams would fear him more in that role, then as a pure runner. Motion Rice into the backfield at times to keep a defense off balance. Now you take your shots to Marlon/Jacoby/Torrey and attempt to run it downfield with Pierce.

I am all sold on keeping Ray Rice but you are completely right but we need an OC like Scott Frost from Oregon to push the limitless talent out our players on Offense

oh cmon. rice cant suddenly run routes like an established slot reciever. he can get the ball in the backfield with a screen and a quick throw down the middle but thats that.

Rice looks heavier. When I compared him with two years ago in his legs and midsection. We dont know how hurt he really is either.
He doesnt juke anymore and goes down much radier. I have yet to see him stumble and put his hand down to keep his balance and make a move this year like we are accostumed too, i wonder if his fumble problems has taken that from his arensal.

we are only throwing it that much because we can't run. Ideally we should be pretty much 50 50 like the playoffs, but when we try to run the ball and constantly end up in third and 11, as was our average against greennbay, you have to pass more, especially on the early downs.

You obviously can't be one dimensional either

I would like us to pass more on first down and 2nd down to open up the run. It's a huge issue and it needs to be resolved. We can't put the whole offense on Joe's back, he is not that kind of QB and we are not that kind of offense.

i meant tweak.his contract before we do anything that was all i know if we trade before we tweak his signing bonus it will be dead money against the cap

jesus christ. You can't tweak a signing bonus. Ngata already has that money in his bank account. Its gone and been paid. But for cap purposes its split over the life of the deal. Eg 50 bonus 5 yr deal is split evenly 10 each yr but the player gets the full 50 when he signs the deal if after year 2 we cut him. The remaining 30 million ie 50 less 10 yr 1 less 10 yr 2, hits the cap all in one go. Meaning we save his salary for that year but have dead money of 30 mil. Ie it would cost more on the cap to cut him than keep him.

Thats the situation both rice and ngata are in. It hurts us more to get rid of them.

You CANNOT do anything with a signing bonus once its paid

Thank you, was going to type the same, but decided it wasn't worth the time.

Frustrating I know, but better just to ignore - though even that gets tough when he starts a new thread for every little idea he comes up with lol.

if Brandon is 30 year old and gets an Xmas bonus for his job, I wonder would he be ahoy to hand half of that back a year later?

Lol. My friend is either stupid or trolling me but he told me we should bench KO and move McKinnie to LG. I laughed in his face. I figured I'd share that joke with the rest of you.

I think he's the same Rice maybe he may be a little slower due to  built up muscle mass but he also isn't healthy. Bernard Pierce hasn't look the same either and this is because the o-line isn't creating enough space  for the  running backs to do what they do best not even mentioning how  the run game lacks creativity .

Agree. Rice looks like he's gotten extremely stocky. I can understand bulking up to protect your body from the weekly pounding but if he needs to cut and hit the hole fast stockiness is not the best body frame.  The hip injury and the stockiness makes him look like he's moving in slow motion while going down on any contact.  I'm certainly not ready to give up on Ray Rice but maybe it's time to get him the ball in open space more 'cuz right now he's not hitting any holes or out running anybody.

Again, if the OLine was playing better none of this would be so transparent.

So far, it has not been their year. If the rest of the team were performing up to expectations, it would be fair to call these two guys out.  The truth is that we have two players on the offense that have been playing their guts out .  The rest of the offense looks very complacent. The O-line looks lackadaisical at times. As for the defense, Terrell Suggs is giving it his all. The jury is still out on most of the others. In half of the games we've played to date, we have not put two good halves together. That's not the formula for winning games. Most of the greatest players we have had played each game like it was his last. I haven't seen enough of that with this team. Its time for some serious introspection on the part of several players and coaches. The next three games will tell us a lot about the character of this team AND remember that "competition doesn't build character; it exposes it." I must give Dallas Clark props for showing the other TEs what a good TE is supposed to do.  His one-handed TD catch was nothing less than outstanding.

Leave it all on Heinz Field on Sunday, men! If you do, you won't have to worry about who won or lost.

We have to be more creative and imaginative like you say. The pass can, and in our case right now, should be used to open up the run. With some healthy bodies back we should see this happen.

I think Joe would be fine with the load on his back if we were built in a way to support him, but we're not.

You cant trade Rice or Ngata cause of cap ramifications. Rice is fatter, i doubt that is all muscle. He looks like a fullback.

I know, right?

Also, I'm glad Flacco finally got straight and is ending the fed shutdown. What was he thinking?
