Ray Rice and Haloti Ngata under-performing

163 posts in this topic

Last year, I thought you were crazy, but now there's some merit to what you're saying. Ngata has undoubtedly regressed, whether by injury, wear and tear, apathy, or all of the above.

That's refreshing to hear , thanks. Believe me, I love the player that he was. He's one of my favorite Ravens. There's a definite decline, for one reason or another. It caught me by surprise , while listening to one of the fans radio show... It was brought up that the Dline had a dinner a few weeks ago... and the only player that didn't show was Ngata. I'm pretty certain it was Pernell McPhee that mentioned it. I don't think he's at a point where he wants to spend extra effort with the team.

I hate to say it, but, unless we're playing the Steelers or a conference rival like the Patriots, Ngata plays lazy and uninspired. He shows up to work three times in the regular season against the Steelers and the Patriots, and then he shows up to work in the playoffs. He takes plays off a lot more than I'd like to see.

Well, laziness and taking off plays was the big knock on him coming out of college. It's sad, but it is also a trait in a person that is nearly impossible to overcome.

Yeah, you're right about Ngata. At first I thought you hated him but I understand it's more frustration than anything. He's extremely frustrating to watch.

That's an interesting bit about Ngata not going to dinner. Could be nothing but for a guy who's supposed to lead the DL why not go? I just don't think he loves this game.

Ngata will be a cap casualty eventually and I won't be sad about it.

From what I understand, there is little to no incentive in cutting or trading him, or him retiring. We're stuck at the mercy of his huge contract.

After the next season we could cut him.  He'll have another year after this.

What do we do  woth these 2 vastly overpaid players? ngataisthe highest paid dt/nt in the league And is playing at a level, and has been since his contract of that of someone who should be paid half his salary. ray rice looks done as well and hes a top 3 paid RB. we have soo manyholes to fill next year and with the draft never being a sure thing, brining in the right FA or having the ability to make trades annot be understated in its importance. Can we get rid of them without a huge cap penalty ? we are a team that is sadly ageing in many areas and unproven in others. i dont see a great team been built here.

Trade, trade, trade! Ngata to The Bears and Rice to whoever the highest bidder! I'm sure TheBears would be the highest bidder on Ngata.

Rice is prove you don't keep a work horse running back for more then 5-6 years!

Moving forward, unless he is in the mold of Bo Jackson, Adrian Peterson, or Earl Campbell, we should NEVER sign a RB to a 2nd contract. The production you get never justifies the percentage of cap space eaten up by a market contract. This is what NE and GB have been doing for years and it works. Show me a team that has a RB signed to a lucrative deal that is a Super Bowl contender. Seahawks and 49ers maybe but they have their QBs on rookie deals.

jw if we bench all the players you say to bench and fire all the coaches you want fired . who would be left to play the games cause if your a fa now this late in the season its usually because your career is over

I dont see how any body can be looking at the same game that i am because how can anybody expect Rice to be rice  with the little space the o-line is giving him even Bernard Pierce is looking bad . I dont even think Adrian Peterson could have a great game  with the O-line we have right now

we could restructure their deals and trade a few players during the bye week

We can't restructure a signing bonus only base salary and there's no way they would agree to it. They both know they won't get cut. Unless they're feeling the Christmas spirit I doubt this happens.

We're not going to entertain trading Marshal Yanda. At least not yet.

I said that Ngata should be traded last week and had so many negs, you would think I was the devil himself! lol

You got the negs because no one would take his contract on.

Takes two to make a trade.

Overpaid or not I think Ngata doing  a good job he's one of the reason  why our run defense is so good and why our defense is successful at blitzing through out the middle. Can ngata be better ? well  yes he can but its still pretty early in season anything can happen.

ok but we would have to try during our bye week how many picks could we get if we trade Haloti Ngata,Ray Rice and Marshal Yanda to different teams so we would have alot of cap space to extend Monroe,Oher, and both Jacoby and Arthur Jones

Brandon, I'd be stunned if we traded any of them this year let alone before or during our bye. We're clearly trying to win this year. Come on. Their play hasn't been great but you just don't trade them without trying to fix the problems around them. That's foolish.

Also, why are you so keen on trading Yanda?

Brandon. Your ideas are terrible man. We are not trading Marshal Yanda. Period!

Other is not worth giving an extension and hasn't played great since his rookie season.

He's doing solid, overall, and even has had a few moments this year where he reminded us why he got such a huge contract.

The problem is, over the last couple years, those moments have been too few and far between

Exactly. Ngata is playing well, just not near the level his play would indicate. He's doing his job eating blockers in the middle. He should be doing more based on his pay, though.

Rice was slow to begin with, but he has lost a step on top of that. He isn't the same player regardless of the O-line. Don't forget his fumbles of late!

No Igot the negs because some people are puppets! Chicago is in dire need at DT and NT. they have cap space!

Yeah but we're still on the hook for the signing bonus. We also play Chicago. I mean, if they give us a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him then yeah. Okay. But we'll also need Cody to be healthy.

What do you think we can honestly get for Haloti Ngata?
