Ray Rice and Haloti Ngata under-performing

163 posts in this topic

What do we do  woth these 2 vastly overpaid players? ngataisthe highest paid dt/nt in the league And is playing at a level, and has been since his contract of that of someone who should be paid half his salary. ray rice looks done as well and hes a top 3 paid RB. we have soo manyholes to fill next year and with the draft never being a sure thing, brining in the right FA or having the ability to make trades annot be understated in its importance. Can we get rid of them without a huge cap penalty ? we are a team that is sadly ageing in many areas and unproven in others. i dont see a great team been built here.

yeah, but there must be a way. an their contracts be changed? could they have morales themsleves and realize they are not playing at a level and with the limited cap space and lack of young star talent on the team, they are potentialy putting us in a situation like the steelers?

We never should have put ourselves in a position where cutting/trading a player would cost more to us than actually keeping them. We will have to live with our mistakes.

Dude... any contract would be that way.  That's how contracts work.  That's why players get released in their final year of their contract.

not necessarily, I know some teams, mainly the eagles don't do big signing bonuses, they offer big Yearly salaries, guaranteeing the earlier years, and thus in the last few years thy yet full savings.

When you offer guaranteed signing bonuses your handcuffing yourself. For example joes 120 over 6 years could be

20mil bonus guaranteed
5 sal yr 1 and 2 - cap num of 9 both years
15 sal yr 3 - cap num 19
25 yrs 4 thru 6 cap number 29 yr 4 and 5, 25 for year 6

Guarantee the first three years, totalling 45 mil fully guaranteed and if you cut him in year 4 your cap savings are 25 mil sal less 8 mil dead money from the signing bonus so 17 mil yr 4 then 25 mil yr 5 and 6

maybe in the short term. i just dont feel our front office has us in a position to be the team or close to the quality of team that we had . i think we may have to be bad to be good. it may take 3 years but its clear certain players are done or at least not capable of producing what we expect. when i wacth ngata its just dissapointing. he has a good game or 2 then has 2 non existant games. you cant pay a guy prime warren saap money and all he does is get 3 tackles a game.

we have a very good team its going to take time to gel . ngata is double teamed and triple teamed rice is banged up . the problem here isn't the players its the fans overreacting and going off the deep end every single loss. how come no team goes undefeated since the 70's .winning football games in the nfl is hard . you don't cut a player and pay them more then what you save by cutting them there is a salary cap and you have to be under it period no negotiating. we r still paying cundiff , and pollard. this team will be fine

I was against re-signing Ray Rice because of his heavy career workload, he had nearly 1000 carries before we drafted him.

If we build a strong oline the ground game will take care of itself.

Lol, and in comes a mod with some positivity to throw in to this depressing thread. May be the one time I'm happy to see a mod.

if nagta is getting double or trpled teamed then we should be averaging 8 sacks pergame. this whole ngata is double or trippled teamed excuse isgetting old.

ngata has never been a good enough pass rusher though. hes no trevor pryce.yes i would pick pryce or sam adams over ngata in my alltime ravens team, just based on ability, not reputation.

and the whole fans wanting to blow the team up  and overreacting to a loss is beyond old but I guess we will both be fine. the point is you can't sack anyone when you have two 300 pound men trying to stop you. another thing that is way old are people who can't stand the ravens acting like fans.

thanks for the compliment I am a ravens homer  being called that is not a disparaging remark to me . I agree the team is playing poorly on offense at the moment but the defense is playing lights out . if we learned  anything  from the offensive struggles it's  "  if it's not broke don't try to fix it " that's been rammed home loud and clear .

Stop with the "double, triple teamed" nonsense. It's not very common that it happens .Ngata hasn't been beating 1 on 1 matchups ... yesterday was another prime example. He's broken down.. he may have a few splash plays eventually... but he hasn't been dominant by any stretch.

If Ngata is getting double and triple teamed then surely that opens up holes for other guys to get through, which I don't see happening much.

we have been having sack parties every single week .... we are second In  the league in sacks not to mention qb hits and hurries  unreal  yes we lost a game the defense played solid and has been except one week .

I never said the defence didn't play well, but if Ngata is really eating up all these triple teams then either our guys aren't good enough to capitalise on the gaps that leaves, or you are in fact just talking out of your ass. A lot of our sacks have come from the outside, not through the middle. Our D-Line needs to improve and break through into the pocket.

I think three is a good number we are second in the league .we are probably not going to agree I think our defense doesn't need to be fixed . that's Castillo's way of doing things breaking things that are functioning exceptionally well.

or your a trolling fool that needs to be ignored . which is my plan . there's nothing wrong with our defense .
