Coaches On the Hot Seat

142 posts in this topic

So it is 1:11 here on the east coast, and Shanahan has yet to be fired. How is that possible?

That Redskins team won't go anywhere until Snyder is no longer the owner of the team. They have had how many head coaches as of late? He can keep bringing in guys but just like Jerry Jones, he doesn't realize that HE is the true problem for his team.

Exactly. Lots of people have been saying that for years about Snyder but he is so deluded he won't give up the Redskins until someone buys him out.

Back on topic, I wonder if any coach in their right mind would even *want* to take a head coaching job in Washington?

So apparently Washington is looking at how they can fire Shanny and not pay him what's left in his contract. They may try and say he's behind that report about the rift in the team and him wanting to quit at the end of last season, and use that against him.

Snyder might have real trouble finding a respectable candidate if he pulls a stunt like that.

But the pissing contest between him and Shanahan is really escalating.  Shanahan just announced that he's considering benching RG-I-N-T for his health for the off-season program, which is definitely a power play.  He's daring Snyder to fire him essentially, and can you really blame there?  If there's a decent team a QB away from a championship, I guarantee he wants that job and his boy Jay Cutler will join him.  I still think Houston would be a terrific fit, but they're claiming they're not interested in him.

Is Mike Tomlin on the hot seat? Just asking.

If I was the owner, he would be. The team has declined every year since he got there, and he's simply not a class act.

But Tomlin is loved by the league, that's why he's on the competition committee and is talked about so much.  He doesn't have to worry if he gets fired though, I know House is over but he could probably find another acting job.

Raiders HC Dennis Allen is on the hot seat
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/oakland-raiders-why-head-coach-dennis-allen-hot-165100176--nfl.html

I hope we lose out and he gets fired for the sale of the franchise

His game planning is awful and he makes no second half adjustments

The Raiders have made some improvements under Allen, and now that they have a real GM things are quite looking up if they can get themselves a real quarterback. If they fire him, it will show they are the same old Raiders. Look at the Panthers, everything finally came together this season. They will blow everything up and ruin the progress they have made under Allen for a new coach to throw everything away for a new scheme, and then players out of place, etc. Rebuilding all over again.

We have made zero improvements under Allen. Trust me. We've regressed, not progressed. I'll give him one more year, but that's it. He is truly awful at utilizing talented players and even worse at protecting leads.

There are no players, 7 of our 11 defensive starters (all except Branch, Roach, Sio Moore and Burnett) are FAs.

On offense, the QB and RB (DMC is FA) will certainly be different anyway and our entire OL except RG (Mike Brisiel) and C (Wisniewski) will also be FAs. There is also no TE. We have five offensive starters who for sure will be on the team next season (Denarius Moore, Stefen Wisniewski, Rod Streater, Marcel Reece, Mike Brisiel)

The Raiders need more talent.

Can't argue that

The one reason I'd be ok if we don't fire DA is to see what he can do with a full draft finally and a lot of cap space. Once we get talent, we'll see how he uses it.

I think it's too early for people to write off Reggie McKenzie.  He was dealt a horrible mess left by Al Davis, and it takes time to fix it.  I actually think he probably knows what he's doing because he used to be the Director of Player Personnel in Green Bay.

And I'm not accusing you of writing him off, that wasn't clear on my part  :D

I'd give the McGloin train an extra year.  OAK has Pryor to fall back on if he falters.  Better to have a bad-mediocre QB with NFL experience than roll the dice on a college kid.  Plus, OAK needs a star WR badly (Watkins, Evans).

Reggie is a good GM
He got us Nick Roach on a cheap long term deal and I love him for that lol

He'll probably tag the LT, you guys need to keep him.

I hope we just lock up Veldy to a multi year deal
This would've been his pro bowl year if he didn't tear his triceps in offseason

We also should lock up Lamarr Houston

Everyone else can go really, I'd like to keep Woodson though; He's been a good player for us in the midst of the injuries in the secondary

As the Wheel turns in Washington... Shanny now says he wants to return to Washington next season "as long as he can run the team the way he wants".

Good Luck with control freak Snyder in charge.

Oh and now Schefter says Washington will not try to fire him for cause and withhold the $7M he is due in 2014. Contract is "Ironclad" per legal source.

Ugh, with that joke of a game yesterday against Atlanta, it's clear that both Shanahans have lost the locker room and need to go.

Ian Rapoport has added or confirmed that Dennis Allen, Jason Garrett, and Jim Schwartz should be on the on notice board.  It's playoffs or bust for the latter two.

Yeah I was just going to say Schwartz is now on the hot seat. Thing is, if Chicago falters, Green Bay can still win the division and if keep Flynn for the regular season and bring Rodgers back for the playoffs, they will be dangerous.

Funny how we potentially could cost Schwartz his job, then again they had the division, it was theirs and yet they have gave it away. I can see Marvin Lewis being fired if the same happens to the Bengals and they give up the division after it being theirs for so long.

Rex Ryan believes he's getting fired.  Interesting, considering the Jets have overachieved.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/rex-ryan-reportedly-tells-york-jets-expects-fired-181152901--nfl.html

We've all thought that he's gonna get fired for, what, the past two years at least? Eventually, it's gotta happen... though I can't lie, I kind of want them to be LOL-worthy for a bit longer just for the humor aspect.

Everyone respects Rex as a football guy and he's one of the best defensive minds in the league.  He's just a joke off the field.  But he didn't ruin that organization, their old GM didn't understand how the salary cap worked and they don't have the money to do anything.

I think Jets beat the Dolphins, especially if Tannehill is injured and doesn't play and Rex keeps his job for 2014.

So anyone want to take guesses on who could be fired tomorrow?

I don't think anyone gets fired tomorrow, it's a little too late to fix anything.  Nevertheless, this is the On Notice Board right now:
