We need a new offensive coordinator

Who the hell is calling the plays today?  Ray up the middle on every 1st down?? Seriously?  We are soooooo predictable.  If Ray can't get yards, we need to change it up.  Oh, wait,...We'll finally change it up with about 5 minutes left in 4th quarter when it's too late.

I agree 100% awful playcalling the entire game. No creativity and worse yet no commitment to play action. And he revives that damn endaround!!!! I was furious.

I was thinking that also. I say that because we have some traditional power blocking runs that do have some success. But most of our runs are ZBS and they are just a hot mess. It is Caldwell calling ZBS runs when there are power blocking runs in the offense.

I don't know what's wrong with Caldwell this season, this is not the OC I remember from the Super Bowl run.  Like I said in the game thread, if this continues and Gary Kubiak becomes available I think he's a guy worth pursuing.  The Texans offense under him has been very good, outside of the problems this year, and they've done it both running and passing the ball.  Kyle Shanahan could also be available, and he was a part of the Texans' offensive success.

I'd like Caldwell to succeed, but he can't keep running up the middle for no gain on first down.  His whole down and distance play breakdown is screwy this season.

I think power blocking works better for us as well. and I don't think Caldwell has called any games this year at all . Castillo is calling plays bet my life on it  the offensive coordinator, and the entire o line  didn't forget good football over the summer .too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the soup

A change mid season was great for us last year, maybe we should make this a trend.

I've been really disappointed with Caldwell this year.  Grant it, he has been limited by poor O-line play, injured weapons, and Ray Rice.  But you have to be creative in today's NFL.  Predictable offenses struggle nowadays.

That could make sense with the offense being so much different then the playoff run. But do you have any evidence other then a gut feeling Castillo is calling plays. But a perfect example of 2 many cooks in the kitchen was when Zorn,Saunders,Cameron all were trying to coach Flacco. All had some success as a QB coach/ OC

just my gut last year Caldwell was aggressive he was still predictable on the run but not like this. I can't believe this is coming from him .

I just want to know what happened to the no huddle.

That's a great question. Considering Flacco does his best work out of no huddle. I mean that's why when it's late in game down big we start moving the ball so well in hurry up.

I really feel like the ZBS runs are what's the main problem. People have said before that we're not built for those plays in the past and it's just not working now. Also, Ray Rice has always seemed to struggle with it. We need to throw those plays in the trash and keep the power run plays. We started popping off 5-10 yard runs when we just went north and south.

I just want to know what happened to the no huddle.

Also, this ^.

Same.

But it is a double edge sword.  If our offense sputters than the Defense has to come onto the field that much quicker against Rodgers.  But then again, with all their missing pieces on defense, the no-huddle could have done some damage.

Why? Besides he is currently coaching.

Kubiak is like Norv, great offensive mind, terrible HC.

He's still coaching, but he won't be coaching for long.

I'm waiting to see how many people rally behind him when he's fired.  It'll be hilarious to see all the people currently bemoaning the ZBS clamoring for the guy who, for at least the past two seasons, is a full on zone run guy.

For the record, I've never bemoaned the ZBS. I've bemoaned the fact that our center sucks.

I am going to give Caldwell the benefit of the doubt. He is trying to make chicken salad out of chicken ..... when its comes to the run game. He really doesnt have the personnel. The OL is failing miserably at the LOS.  He does however need to get the ball in the hands of Brown for that kid is the truth.

Not calling you out, but there's an epidemic right now of people throwing around blocking terms that I doubt most of them understand.  I don't blame them for parroting phrases they hear around, but it bothers me when the ideas behind them are wrong.

We need more creativity on offense. We need creativity in what the play is and when it is called. Especially with no run game, it makes us one dimensional to a degree. But we cant be afraid to pass on early downs or throw in a few trick plays or run hurry up when going slow isnt working.

Find ways to get the ball to our playmakers. Torrey having only one catch is unacceptable. Teams who have great OC's always find a way to get their most dangerous players involved. Give it to Torrey on some short routes(screens, slants, hitches, drags, etc.) or even end-arounds once in awhile and give Rice the ball in space. We say give Rice his touches and we win, well we won't if all those touches are just runs straight up the middle where we can't block. I know pitches to the outside don't work as often in the NFL, but it cant be much worse than what we've been doing. I rarely seen any draw plays either. The point is I feel like our offense is vanilla and the opposing defense knows whats coming and therefore is outplaying us most of the time. We have to start reaching deeper into that playbook and changing it up.

you do realize that rookies take time to learn and that no rookie none come out of college playing like hall of famers? gino doesn't suck he just needs time to learn . no nfl team wins the superbowl every year back to back to back we will fix it . even when we win u complain

Tough to use that argument when rookie Travis Frederick is the 6th ranked center in the league and second year man, who had a whole year to learn the system under Matt Birk, Gino Gradkowski is the 34th.

Our offense is way too predictable. We run on first down way too often and for some reason we go long stretches without utilizing the middle of the field at all.

If you believe in PFF, Gino is the 34th rated center in the league. He's behind some backups!

He's had 10 games to show something and has shown nothing. The guy is too small and just isn't very bright. You can be one or the other but NOT both.

you make a good point all players are not created equal . who takes his place Jensen who has not taken a snap but these forums consider him to be the savior at that position based on what . Shipley? rewatch the preseason games. I'm not saying gino is the best but when the same people are on the forums and they contstantly tear apart the players win or lose never satisfied ever it gets old so yeah I defend him. I personally believe he will get better .

Eisenberg says we ran on first down 16/27 times. I bet those last 11 were all in the second half.

and your solution is to bench him for who or is your thing to just rant and rave. and for the record I don't  take pff seriously because joe was shredding Denver and patriots and they always scored the ravens consistently low .

Seems to be a recurring trend.  If there was more variety, 60ish% running is about right.
