What's up with C Ryan Jensen?

36 posts in this topic

Im along this line of thinking too.  I don't get why he's still taking up a roster spot at this point.  He broke his foot like a week into TC.  Meaning he has zilch for experience either against real NFL competition or with guys he could theoretically be playing beside.  Jensen still isn't practicing at the season is 1/3 of the way done.  So are we holding out hope he's going to be ready to go by week 15 in terms of being ready to play?  What sense does that make?

Did Jensen even practice in pads before he broke his foot?  I don't understand this move at all.

I don't understand it either, but the argument against it is that if he is put on the PS, then another team could sign him away.

Not if he's IR'd, which is what I don't understand, why he hasn't been put on IR.  I understand not putting him on the PS 100%.

If he is IR'd during the regular season, then he is not eligible to return until the current schedule has been completed, from my understanding. So it goes without saying that the team expects Jensen to be healthy and ready to step on the field and be ready to contribute if called upon.

Thats the part people on here don't understand.  How can the team possibly think he's ready to contribute when they've seen him practice in shorts only for like 4 days in TC.  No one has seen the kid against NFL competition, thats whats so confusing to people.

There is literally nothing to go on other than D2 college film and by all that is holy that can't even be close to enough to go on.

What I said was: "Depending on how he does, I think he could push for time at center or even left guard if Shipley and KO can't put it together."

The operative terms are "Depending on how he does," and "could."

See how important seeing that is? How'd you miss it man? Good try!

Ok man, wasn't trying to be argumentative or anything, but that's cool.

Even with those qualifiers, all the other guy said was NFL ready... in my opinion, and im assuming his as well, "NFL ready" means simply ready to play in the NFL. If it's even possible for a guy to get playing time, doesn't that inherently mean NFL ready.

If someones not NFL ready, then there's no shot of getting playing time, i.e. theyre not ready for the NFL. Practice squad is for players who are not ready for the NFL. College is for players who are not ready for the NFL. Arena, Canada, etc... are all for players who are not ready for the NFL. Even IR to an extent is for guys who are not ready for the NFL, whether bc of injury or making up an injury to stash a young player youre concerned about losing if you try to sign to you PS (which Jensen has a legitimate injury, so if he wasn't NFL ready, wouldn't that have been a logical spot for him?)

The guy is one of 53 men on the Baltimore Ravens roster. He showed enough in a few practices that even with a broken foot and knowing he wouldn't be able to play a quarter of the season he warranted one of our 53 coveted spots. And even according to you, theres a possibility that if he practices well enough he could take playing time away from current NFL starters. Doesn't the fact that that potential clearly exists mean he's "NFL ready."

Again, my intention wasn't to argue - my apologies if I offended you. Just felt like you went at the other poster for saying "NFL ready" and then your comment, even if it was dependent on a certain qualifier, went on to support the belief that he is NFL ready.... and even if you don't agree then we simply disagree on the definition of "NFL ready" which I still don't think is any reason to get defensive and sarcastic.

Anyways, the belief that he is NFL ready stems from simply having faith in our FO and coaching staff in that they wouldn't use up a roster spot on a: 6th-round-draft-pick in his rookie season, who plays at a position we have another, higher, recent draft pick starting and a backup they traded a draft pick for this offseason, who was only able to practice in a very limited capacity during the offseason, the reason for which was that he broke his foot, an injury that has kept him off even the practice field for over a quarter of the season..... unless of course they were extraordinarily confident that this kid is not only NFL ready, but also ready to be a big contributor on this NFL team.

And that's my point.... it makes literally zero sense - unless they have seen more from him than we think. And from what they've seen they think he is definitely an upgrade over what is currently on the field. There's just no other rational explanation that I can think of.
