Tony Gonzalez trade?

52 posts in this topic

Rumors starting that T-Gonz might be in a trade block if Falcons gets another loss.

His cap is around 2.5m after 6 games.   Considering how bad TE roster is @ ravens, what is the possibility we attain him if we go 4-2 next week?

Would Falcons FO & T-gonz be tempted to trade him for a late round pick?

I don't think we have the cap space. I'd do it if we had the space but what would we give up for him? Unless we give up a 3rd round pick or higher we'd have to trade him for a 6th unless they want to deal future picks or players.

McKinnie for Gonzalez? Lol

well we have 1.1mill right now. pretty sure its doable.

You can maneuver a little, but you'd be putting the cap dangerously close to $0.  That can't happen.

Plus, there's this:

He said he wants to win with those guys, not win in general, he came back for the players more than the ring itself, can't see him wanting a trade

Lol, sounds like the Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol trade. :D

I agree with this. At this point Tony doesn't have anything to prove anyway. It's still a nice fantasy. Suddenly our biggest weakness would become our biggest strength.

The only team I could maybe see Tony consider is the Chiefs, purely based on his past.  He really likes Atlanta, though.

No way it happens

That would mean selling any future consistency to win now.  Atlanta would want too much and Oz does not operate that way.

Bring Furstenburg up from the practice squad.  Big body, okay blocker and more potential then Dickson or Bajema.

Would ve stupid anyway. Trading a mid round pick for a one year rental? This isn't Monroe, who will presumably sign a long term deal.

The coaches see Furstenburg in practice every day. The fact that he's not made it to the roster while we've been churning special teamers means he hasn't shown that he's ready. The only people who think he's got more potential than an Ed Dickson right now are the handful of fans who saw him play in college or preseason against subpar competition. Dickson had a huge college career and got drafted in higher round than a lot of the team. Furstenburg was okay in college and went undrafted. So 32 GMs and scouting teams weren't so high on his upside to pick him over whomever they are starting right now.

Pretty much the same people who thought Rainey would be starring for the Browns by now are the same ones claiming Furstenburg is a superstar if he only got a chance. Give the coaching staff a little credit. If it were up to some of the fans we'd have Troy Smith passing to Streeter every week and be at the bottom of the division.

Why would TG ever want a trade, and why would the Falcons give up a playmaker? He could be back next year.

He would take a PR and media hit; so would the Falcons... And fickle NFL fans (ours as an example) would tar and feather him.

Crazy. It's like a a sub-set of our fans lack logic or a critical eye.

Considering they already made one trade this season shows they are definitely trying to WI NOW as opposed to ride the coattails of a Super Bowl victory and simply let the season play out and rebuild through the next few drafts,

Should they make an offer for a guy that is playing like Tony Gonzalez has been playing this season?  Even if it's for only the rest of this season... I think it's an obvious YES.

But do I think the Ravens will?  no.  Can't take away too many of the excuses for Flacco.  Otherwise he'd be in Schaub's territory where there's nobody else left to blame.

Rainey probably would be starring for the Browns by now if they didn't go out and sign McGahee, who can obviously still play.  And stop acting like there is a group that thought Troy Smith could do more things with the Ravens offense than Flacco.  It was me, and only me.  And I don't deny it.

He never made it. But let's not act like he got a fair shot and kept blowing it like a Mark Sanchez or Matt Schaub.  He might have been decent, he might have sucked.  But we never got to truly find out.

As for Streeter.  I never backed him.  Plenty of people were lobbying for David Reed, but I'm glad that finally ended.  I was a big Doss supporter, and it looks like now that he's finally getting actual chances... and Flacco is actually throwing to him... he can actually contribute!  Go figure!

First of all it would be disrespectful of the Falcons to trade him without his consent. Now, if he consents or requests a trade, then I don't think the Ravens would have to give up too much to acquire him, because we would be amongst his first choices.

However, if I were a betting man, I would say he stays put and that there is no truth to these rumors.

I don't know why you are so confident about his lack of ability....

He's 37 and wanted this to be his last year.

He also has not looked as dominant.

No way you give up draft picks for a guy that's going to play only part of 1 year.

Yes that's the reason they won't do it lol. Not that he's going to retire at the end of the year.

If we had a 7th round pick I would've sent one for him. We don't and he doesn't appear to want to be traded so there's no discussion..
