3 London games next season

23 posts in this topic

One more than this year, makes you wonder are they trying to get extra games to as close to a full season as possible to see do the fans still keep coming.

Personally being in the uk, I don't think its plausible, yes I'd love one, but to ask the London team to constantly fly to USA for away games and for players from college, 21 22 year olds to uproot leave family and friends to come here to play I think is too much.

I guess they'll be renaming that show "America's Game" pretty soon.

The 3 teams with home games there: Falcons, Raiders, and Jaguars.

Sucks to be a season ticket holder of those teams... Of course, it always stinks to be a Raiders or Jags fan.

Thankfully the Ravens play Jacksonville and Atlanta at The Bank in 2014, I would have hated to have seen the Ravens go over to London, even as the road team.

I hate this idea. No problem with international football but to have one team seems superfluous.

I'd consider going over there to see the Ravens game. It would be fun to tack that on in conjunction with visiting another part of Europe.

Agreed. Perfect chance to see friends in Ireland.

The NFL not just recently been talking up the possibility of a London based NFL team, but for while now. Not only does this seem ridiculous logistically, but I also have big doubts that it would be profitable.

Football (and by that I mean soccer) is king here in Europe and everything else is a distant second. You don't have to look further than the failed NFL Europe to see that the logistical hassle of trying to implement a European football team into the NFL schedule just wouldn't be worth it.

How would an NFL team in London work? Would they have to be based in London or could they train in the US then fly over for 'home' games?

I would assume that they'd have to do their home and away games in bunches.

4 home games - training at home.  4 away games - training somewhere in the US.  Bye.  4 home games - training at home.  4 away games - training in the U.S.

Otherwise they're going to have a major disadvantage.

A NFL team in England? Well, good luck competing with the other football. We all know what a great success the NFL Europe was.

Part of that was the poor quality of those teams but I agree. An NFL franchise in London would be a logistical nightmare and might not even be profitable. The few games that go over there throughout the season are hard enough - and the attendance is bolstered because the games are rarer.

Yeah, it does seem like a horrible idea. Being European, I know that Football (by that I mean Soccer) will always rule the sports world in Europe. There is just too much tradition and history to overcome.

The logistical hassle that would come with a team, that plays on a different continent is obvious on top of that.

However, just because it's a dumb idea, doesn't mean the NFL won't do it. Remember the NFL expansion in 1995?

The league passed on Baltimore and St. Louis in favor of Carolina and Jacksonville to "expand the league into new markets". The Washington Racists were supposed to take over the Baltimore market anyway, which just shows the disconnect between the league and the fans, that are actually watching the sport.

What happened? St. Louis was forced to get the Rams to move and Baltimore got their hands on the Browns. The NFL temporarily lost one of it's most storied franchises and still doesn't have a team in one of the biggest markets in America, L.A., while Jacksonville couldn't get their Stadium half full, even if every visitor would get a car for free.

And people try to get Paul Tagliabue to the HoF, hilarious.

Here's an interesting idea. Get a NFL team to Los Angeles first!!!

If I am going to see the Ravens live in the near future it has to be in London. I would love a trip over the pond, but it is so expensive and on student payment it's more or less impossible.

I hope this goes away before the Ravens have to go. I am not a fan of traveling over there and possibly losing a home game.

The second biggest sport here rugby, is only sell outs if it's internationals or finals. You get half full stadiums every weekend otherwise. Obviously there is some exceptions to that, but that's how I think it would go after 2 or 3 years when the novelty wears of and people realise how much money it's costing them.

Die hard fans will still continue but there would be many after a couple years will sit back and watch it on the couch for free, especially because everyone has their own team already.

Would I support the London team? I honestly don't know.

I think an NFL team in London would be able to sell out Wembley 8 times a year, the tickets were snapped up instantaneously, the sport is growing massively over here, but you have to factor in travel expenses to get to London from other parts of the UK and I'm not sure how many would actually 'support' them, I suppose they'd probably have the edge in neutral games, but if it came down to the Ravens v 'Sillynannies' I know I'd support the Ravens.

I think eventually we may get a situation whereby every team visits London once a season, whether that's via the addition of extra games or taking up a teams home tie.

I think a better bet would potentially be a European team that toured big cities. London, Berlin, Manchester, Dublin, Amsterdam, Moscow, Paris and Rome, making each game a spectacle but then again I'm not to sure how popular the sport is in countries besides the UK.

In which, the games have been officially set.

The Falcons take on the Lions. The Jaguars take on the Cowboys and the Raiders play the Dolphins.

Must say the NFL really screwed over the Jaguars. They took a game that could have sold a bunch of tickets down in Jacksonville, and moved it to London. You know Cowboys fans would have driven to Jacksonville to fill up that stadium, loss of value right there. Surprised the Jaguars didn't request a different game be played.

I agree with you Arnie-- i also see injuries being a problem. I think the logistics would be a nightmare for anything out of the East timezone

The Jags probably get a healthy sum for 'hosting' though.

Jags don't sell no tickets. It makes sense to use them. Chargers would be logical too.

Any team in Florida really lol
