Sizzle back in DPOTY form

So after reading that "who is your favorite current Raven thread" and replying Suggs, I looked up his stats and then googled "Is Terrell Suggs a future HOF?" I opened a recent thread up on some other website that asked the same question. A lot of people said he still needed some more individual accolades. (This is the site btw)
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=118&f=1666&t=11422046

They compared his numbers with other players and the sacks don't quite match up, but he favors in other categories. All around he's the best OLB/DE I've ever seen (not saying much since I only started following the game seriously a couple years ago)..... For the last few years he's been able to do it all and do it at a high level, regardless of position.

My question is do you guys think he's at least worth consideration at this point? I think he's on great pace since he just turned 30 and has won all the major hardware. Still padding his stats and also owns 2 franchise records (sacks and FF).

Also I was curious if any player has ever had 100+ career sacks and 10 INT's in their career. I couldn't find anyone who did and the closest was LT with 132.5 sacks, 9 INT's. (Beast)

Suggs currently has 91.5 sacks and 7 interceptions. Anyone think he could open up his own club?

Since 2005 he's gotten only 2 picks in the same season every 3 years. This year he's due for his 2! ;)

Please correct me if my research is wrong regarding 100 sacks, 10 picks.

You are all forgetting one of the the major reasons Suggs won DPOTY and that was 7 FF. SEVEN! ( and 2 ints)

He 'only' had 14 sacks. I say only because it looks like he will shatter that this season.

edit: If he hits 100 sacks or another DPOTY. I say he is HOF with 1 or two more decent seasons.

I think you'd be right. Jason Taylor has 139.5 sacks and 8 INTs. Richard Dent, likewise, has 137.5 sacks and 8 INTs. Rickey Jackson with 128 sacks and 8 INTs. Chris Doleman has 150.5 sacks and 8 INTs. Joey Porter was really close 98 sacks and 12 INTs but he's retired now.

All of these players (outside of Porter) are HOFers or soon-to-be HOFers. Suggs isn't there yet, he needs to stack a few more productive years. Add a couple of Pro Bowls to his resume and BEGIN the 100 sack, 10 INT club and he'll have a much better case.

If Suggs is DPOY this year he should be a HOF. even if his sack numbers aren't in the 120+ range.  There have only been like 6 multiple time DPOY winners.

Suggs is the most dominant defensive player in the NFL on current form - it is hard to question that based on how he's been playing. He is disrupting the run and terrorizing the pass rush. He is just playing "Roger Goodell Stadium Lights Out" football right now!

He's amazing, but I'm not sure he's better than Watt/

Thanks for looking that up. Yeah Porter was the closest, I stopped researching after reaching players who have fewer than 100 sacks. I agree he needs a few more year but since since he's 30 and looks like he's playing in his prime I think it's possible. It's something I'm going to start taking notice of whenever he gets a pick. That would be a great milestone.

Suggs should get some serious credit. I think he took the whole Ray Lewis being gone pretty serious. While we sat here saying oh its not a big deal. Which it appears it wasn't (I would say that has a lot to do with Suggs). But what I'm saying is this guy went and worked his butt off and made sure that someone was their to ball out every week and be the leader of this defense. And I'm Sure Elvis on the other side is helping some. But lets not take anything away from Suggs. BALL SO HARD UNIVERSITY.

This might be the best front 7 Ravens might ever witness in a long while.   To top it off, we haven't even reached our potential yet.

They are two different kind of players, but I think on current form, Suggs is more disruptive and does more for the Ravens defense than Watt. Again, that is just my opinion.

Since 2006

06 was beastly.  A rookie Ngata, Buddy Lee and Trevor Pryce.  Suggs, efficient Ray, Scott and AD.  The thing I think that really made the 06 D stand out was how good our secondary was, added with the fact it was a Rex defense.  I don't care what anyone says, if there was a chance to get him back, I hope Harbaugh would welcome with open arms.  I think this front 7 deserves a little more credit due to the fact we don't have Reed back there and qbs questioning if they should make the throw.

Honestly I was just about to add this to it.. This unit has the opportunity to be more impressive considering the defense as a whole isn't as strong and the Rex factor...
2006 D was just so good top to bottom..

Don't know if this years front svenwill be able to even come close to 2000. They'd have to go on a serious dominant streak

This is what I said in the Peas thread but they disagreed with me. Rex Ryan might be the best defensive mind in the nfl right now.

I would take that to mean there are not a lot of very bright defensive minds in the NFL right now.

This is the positive thread. While our Offense can't get out of its own way, Cam chuckling, Suggs and the Ravens D are not far away from entering Beastmode. A few tweaks are needed

They could be better if the Offense could keep some drives alive so the defense gets rest.

As I prefer to be positive, I'd like to bring to light an interesting and promising stat from our now defensive leader.

Suggs has quietly gotten at least a sack in every single game this season and added an exclamation point by getting 3 today. Suggs has SEVEN sacks, 21 tackles, and 15 assisted tackles in only 5 games. Suggs has returned to his former DPOY ability and it couldn't come at a better time.

With Doom finding his stride and adding an additional 3 sacks it looks like we finally have a formidable pass rushing duo. We will need these two in the coming weeks if we expect to get to where we want to go.

I can only see these two getting better and better and I'm excited to see what kind of stats they can accrue over the course of this season. The forced fumbles and interceptions will come with time.

GO HUNT!

So you are predicting DPOY because he has a lot of sacks and no fumbles or pics but you think he'll get some fumbles and pics and then be amongst the front runners for DPOY?

Any thoughts on Tamba Hali or Justin Houston? They are both playing on a defense that is playing at a very high level. Kiko Alonso?

Where did this come from? I simply made the observation that Suggs is playing out of his mind. The way he played the year he was awarded DPOY. I'm not making any predictions about whether he'll win it again... just that is on field performances are great news for our team. With our abysmal offense we'll have to depend on the defense to keep us in games and it's great to see our defensive star lead by example.
