Sizzle back in DPOTY form

51 posts in this topic

As I prefer to be positive, I'd like to bring to light an interesting and promising stat from our now defensive leader.

Suggs has quietly gotten at least a sack in every single game this season and added an exclamation point by getting 3 today. Suggs has SEVEN sacks, 21 tackles, and 15 assisted tackles in only 5 games. Suggs has returned to his former DPOY ability and it couldn't come at a better time.

With Doom finding his stride and adding an additional 3 sacks it looks like we finally have a formidable pass rushing duo. We will need these two in the coming weeks if we expect to get to where we want to go.

I can only see these two getting better and better and I'm excited to see what kind of stats they can accrue over the course of this season. The forced fumbles and interceptions will come with time.

GO HUNT!

I feel like this is the best he's looked his entire career. So far at least. He's playing LIGHTS OUT

Couldn't agree more man. He has to be the best 3-4 outside linebacker in the league right now. He's doing everything.

It's good to see Suggs back to form.  Had big expectations after the Doom pick up, but I'm still waiting for Ngata to really start playing like him self.  Feel he should be getting more of a push up the middle, but it's interesting to watch the pass rush because it doesn't seem like Pees is being forced to blitz.  A lot of the pressure is coming from 4 man rushes and I'm just waiting to see how the coverage is fixed after the bye.  If they can get everything working together, Suggs' numbers will only improve.  Should have a big game against the Packers and their makeshift line.

Yep! Dumervil, Canty & Jones are significantly helping him because Dumervil is taking some of the pressure and Canty & Jones are applying a lot of pressure inside to cause havoc up the middle. Suggs will probably win DPOY if he continues this because his all-around game has been ridiculous.

Imagine how many sacks Suggs would have if we were getting ahead and other teams had to throw.

THIS.  The offense is injured and will be coming back in time.  Most of the home games will be played towards the end of the season where the team plays better.  I see this team only getting better as the season progresses.  When the offense starts putting everything together and we are playing with a lead, this defense will be vicious.

Give McPhee some credit. He is being put in the interior to combine with Suggs and Dumervil and Canty. He has devastated interiors all the way back to the New England game. Ngata is not even in on third downs cause of him.

Yeah, he's looking like 2011 Suggs. The sky is the limit with this defense with rushing the QB. Pees has to be one happy man.

I love McPhee. But that's because I'm a MSSt fan lol

Like sizzle said himself: it is just a 5 game season. But you can see now what he is able to do with a partner like Doom. Upshaw was great as well and mcPhee is getting his fare share of sacks as well.

We don´t care about stats but we care about winning games. Love suggs and his attitude. I am really proud of our defense. If it wash´t for game one we would be top5 in every category. Otherwise it might have been the wakeup call at the right time...

Arthur Jones has also had an impact. Hope we can re-sign him, he plays like a Raven.

we had 3 former defensive players of the year on the team last year....it was special. I always knew suggs would get it one day and he came through in 2011.

hopefully T. Sizzle can come through big in some primetime games to get the award again. I think Suh will have a good season/chance...but he has too much baggage to get the award, ha.

So far I think he's the best defensive player in the league, followed by Wilkerson & Watt. People say that he's back to his old self, but really he has never looked THAT good. That's how good he is now. He wasn't even that good when he won DPOY. His pass rush has improved by a lot, he has a lot of different moves in his arsenal now, he bull rushes, uses his speed, his hands, everything. More importantly he doesn't have 1 great game and then 4 quiet games where he doesn't generate pass rush, which something that happened when he won DPOY, he'd get like 3 sacks in a game (3 times now that I look at his numbers) and then nothing for like 3-4 games. So far he's had at least one sack in every game and now 3 sacks in one game. He shows up every week, his run defense is incredible as well. Even when the rest of the defense struggles he dominates. Just amazing what he's doing this season, if he keeps it up and doesn't end up winning DPOY the NFL should be sued.

I have noticed this as well. I think this can be attributed to three things. Number one, he now has Doom on the other side taking some of the pressure off of him, as well as a stacked D-Line that controls the interior, better than he's ever had. Number two, he is hungry to prove that he's still a baller, especially after last year's "bad" season for him, where he missed half the season and was a shell of himself for most of the year due to the injury. Number three, who's to say he didn't use the time he wasn't able to play in order to improve other aspects of his game, to watch others playing out there, to watch film even more than he ever had before??

That's a little unfair.  When Suggs won DPOY he played 95% of our defensive snaps.  He was overworked and still made a ton of plays.  Now he's playing 85%.  Which is still a lot but about average for a starter. You can see how the rest has benefited him.  He's playing unreal.

ALSO: In 2011, Suggs' pass rushing efficiency was pretty insane.

He looked the best I've ever seen in practices over the summer - commented on it back then and said he would have a huge year. He is. He's been awesome.

I've always said:

Suggs is the monster in a horror movie where all the main characters are quarter backs.

we should start a thread.  Suggs is a big movie buff, I'm sure he'll appreciate it.
