7 Things. Dolphins Edition

51 posts in this topic

I'm gonna make this a weekly thing. Seven Things with SAM.

Offense.

1. Joe Flacco is not the problem

Last week was a fluke. We played a better team with a good defense today. Did he tear them up? No, not the first half anyway, but he played good football.

2.Torrey Smith is Legit. And so are the other weapons

With only 3 active WRs. we played well. We have an arsenal of weapons, just no line of defense.

3. We're going to have a good offense when the injuries stop.

We were missing Jacoby, Marlon, Stokley, and even KO and Monroe. We got weapons, WRs are NOT the main problem.

4.Mckinnie might have no trade value

After being responsible for an interception, and giving up a few sacks, putting Joe Flacco on the ground for several plays, his stock is down.......

5. Gino....

Is the weakest link on the line. I hope if we do find someone stupid enough to trade for Mckinnie, that they're also dumb enough to supply the team with a center.

6.  Ray Ray has lost his burst

But is still a valuable weapon to the team. Not as fast, and older, but still a good running back.

7. Joe Flacco is a tough dude

How is he not hurt? He's on his back for half the game.......  I mean seriously, our QB is tough as nails. He takes some nasty hits, and gets back up and walks them off.

He's not a wimp like Brady

DEFENSE

1. We hate Jimmy Smith

As a fanbase. He had his first legit mediocre game of the season, and now HE'S the weak link?

Yeah... The weak link is still

2. Graham

Graham is playing poorly, but not Cary Williams poor. I hope he gets better as the season goes on.

3. Elam is a rookie

This is more of a  PSA than something we learned. Elam is a rookie who had a shaky game today. He's not some all pro superstar yet. For those saying he's a bust, you have no idea what you're talking about....... He's a ROOKIE, and he played like it today.

4. Brown looks good.

Arthur Brown had a few nice plays today.. He looks like the MLB of the future for the franchise. He just looks good.

5. Suggs might be a DPOY candidate again

3 sacks? Are you kidding me? Vs a good Rt too....

6. The Pass Rush is overrated

NOT. We are constantly putting pressure on the QB. The front 7 in general is legit.

7. Webb is still pretty good.

You can tell he's playing injured. But he has been playing well. The weak links on the D is just Graham.....

4. He might have some! Maybe the Jags, Dolphins or Cardinals call us for McKinnie! Lol.

5. Gino isn't that bad. He played better today than any time I've seen this year.

6. I don't know if Rice has lost a step or if he's simply playing hurt. I'm undecided right now but regardless, he doesn't look the same.

1. Jimmy had a good game overall. He had two big mistakes that caused two big plays, unfortunately. Webb allowed quite a few completions early on in the game. I give him a pass.

2. Williams played better than Graham, but Graham seems to be thinking too much. I believe he can turn things around here and do better.

4. Arthur Brown is looking like a boss!

These are three things I thought today, too. As a fan, you love Ray Rice, and 4th and 29 was recent enough in our memory that you can't discount his value. But, he's very streaky, and I'd rather not live and die by a single player who isn't a quarterback.

Every week, Joe takes some big hit as he throws, and the camera cuts away to the receiver while I'm waiting for the replay or the announcement that Joe is still on the ground. The fact that he's never missed a game, and the only injury I can think of in 6 seasons was when Jared Allen (I think) stepped on his ankle in Minnesota back in 2009, is amazing. We've had to hear over and over how tough a quarterback like Ben Roethlisberger is ever year when he takes some of the damage he does, but the best thing you can say about Joe Flacco is that you never hear about the shots he takes, because they seem to make no difference.

And, Suggs is playing absolutely lights out right now. At least one sack in every game this season, and 7 sacks on the year. If he continues to play at this level for the remainder of the year, he'll have to be in consideration for his second DPOY award.

I agree with everything you said.  You really hit the nail on the head.  I think part of Rice's lack of burst may have to due with the O-line.  How would you like running into a brick wall at full speed play after play.  It's tiring and demoralizing.

While McKinnie is awful, the Dolphins LT looked no better and he still offers a marginal enhancement at LT for some teams.

Gino is really having it bad.  I would like to give Shipley a shot there especially since it's his natural position and with how decently well he played today.  We must REALLY see something in Jensen to keep him around this long.

- McKinnie is a slob .. I'd cut him tomorrow if it were up to me.

- Agree on the assessment of Ray Rice, could be his hip costing him some of that burst. Maybe more slot receiver snaps?

- Flacco took a beating today, he's a tough dude, but these add up. When Monroe starts at LT maybe that will inject some life and some pride into that line. We need to protect Joe better.

2.Torrey Smith is Legit. And so are the other weapons

With only 3 active WRs. we played well. We have an arsenal of weapons, just no line of defense.

Torrey Smith is quietly having the best season for a WR right now lets not forget his 'leadership'. Ozzie strikes again.

On your comment about Gino... Just no. He really has improved every week, and he played respectably today. We're going to stick with him.

I actually think Elam is playing out of position. He's at FS, and even though he's capable of playing it, he should really be at SS. The problem is that Huff was the one who needed replacing, not Ihedigbo.

On the offensive side, the team is really coming together. We were playing with only 3 active WRs. Flacco needs time to adjust to his constantly rotating WR group. Once he does, we'll be set. Torrey is playing well (1 drop, good hands otherwise) and Doss and DT are all we need them to be. Marlon Brown rounds out a nice 4 WR group. I don't see the need for Jacoby at all.

I dont think Ray Rice lost his burst due to age but his burst in  my opinion is  being effected by  the hip injury. I notice close to the end of game it seem like his burst was back.

I'm not sure I agree with you here. Let me clarify: are you saying Elam won't ever be a FS or that his inexperience lens itself better to play SS and not FS. If that's what you're saying then I agree. He might be too inexperienced for FS but at least he'll get that now. He should improve later in the year and especially next year

I think he's a better strong safety than free safety. He can play both, but I prefer him 1-on-1 at the line or coming down into the box against the run than playing center field.

jones can still play outside wr admirably and has the speed to stretch defenses. Having Torrey ,Jacoby, and Deonte on field together will give us tons of speed and the ability to utilize Joe's cannon arm. And who is gonna catch Joe's Mile High Miracle passes. :)

We need to keep B.Mac. His cap is are guranteed. Keep him as depth for LT. He has no trade value. And he is cheap. As much as i dont like him w/ his off-field issues, dont disregard his value: LT position is not a easy position you can just 'fill in'

Just remember what happen last year. If we didnt have b.mac last week we wouldnt have won SB.

If Flacco is given time, and the plays are more diverse, he might actually throw for TDs this year.

Otherwise, he'll spend time on his back/running for his life.

i think we have an above average safety in huff being wasted away on the bench, he had one bad game, jimmy smith has had dozens of bad games.... i would love love love to see him get involved as a corner...

I don't think McKinnie has really lost stock. He more than likely is frustrated that he knows he's gonna be replaced starting next week, thus he ends up playing poorly. He's lost all confidence as the starter.

asa could push for playing time as the third cb when he comes back

Yes please, especially after his preseason showing... Although I think its week 8 that he comes back... :/

yeah, I would not mind asa and even huff challenging for time as the third and fourth corner considering their value in this league and against manning if we hope to go far in the playoffs.

I have confidence in smith; he shutdown his man besides two or three catches. One was a back shoulder which is difficult to defend when you are trailing.

Huff has been our worst player and has basically been a liability every play he's been out there.  Jimmy seems to be turning the corner.

I don't know if it's just me but I feel like Graham has done the worse so far this year from our secondary.
