The official _______ Sucks, Fire ________ Thread! Week 5 even though the team won!

Honestly can someone tell me why the Ravens almost never "win pretty"? Like Peyton Manning wins in October and November, just a thorough butt kicking that we as fans can just sit back and enjoy. Glad we got the win and all, but man that would be really nice to see haha

Cause we're to busy looking good winning in the Play-Offs.....

For the record, PFF are morons. Jimmy having a negative grade is yet another example of that site's incompetence

I'm not that huge of a fan of Smith but PFF grading is still garbage. Over-hyped and over-stated.

It seemed like the Dolphins were force feeding Mike Wallace to get him involved, like it was being discussed all week.  Webb was on him pretty much all day, and was playing way off to prevent the big play (which both him and Elam eventually gave up, though the pass rush was awful on that play).

I sometimes wonder if Jimmy isn't like McAlister.  Chris got all kinds of praise for guys never throwing at him, and they didn't, but whenever someone did throw at him it all fell apart.  It's like even other teams' QB's were awed by his reputation until one wasn't, then they all weren't and Harbaugh attributed a mysterious knee injury to him and he was gone.

Jimmy was the same way against MIA, they were force feeding Wallace, but the first time they went to Hartline on Jimmy on a comeback he had abominable coverage.  Same with Clay for the TD on the same drive.  A CB who was otherwise brilliant wouldn't seem to have the sort of coverage he did on the TD.  Turning the wrong way, running straight ahead while Clay, a TE/FB, calmly broke outside and caught a TD with zero coverage. I didn't see him thrown at the rest of the day.

Week 1 was the same way, they were roasting Corey Graham with Welker, as Brady did in the AFCCG last year.  You could say, up to that point, Jimmy was doing a great job because he wasn't being thrown at.  As soon as Demaryius Thomas got looks, though, it was basically 40-80 YAC touchdown on Jimmy each time.

The only time Jimmy held up when thrown at was with Weeden throwing at Greg Little, not exactly Montana/Rice.  I know Thomas and Clay are good receivers, but I'm really worried about Jimmy's spatial awareness.  That height doesn't help when he is 15 feet past the WR not having turned around yet or whatever.  I don't think he sucks, or is great, he's just a question mark with some positive signs but also troubling ones.  I'm worried other teams see him appearing to have good coverage and throw elsewhere, but someone will just start picking on him and things will collapse, like the Chargers game his rookie year where he couldn't even run with Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd much less handle their size.

That isn't always the case.  But it's a good point.  Jimmy also played well against Houston, and they threw at him a lot.  Some times he got beat others he didn't.  The penalty was actually smart, what wasn't good is he beat on the play but held to prevent the TD.  But for the most part he was shadowing and beating up Hartline, knocking off his routes and such.

That TD was ugly, he totally whiffed the play and disregarded the receiver.  They knew he would too, they threw the ball really early because they were counting on him not getting it.

But keep in mind Cary Williams played the same position last year and led the league in first downs allowed.  Jimmy is playing much better than that, and teams aren't going after him as much.  Partially because they're getting so much going after Corey Graham.

Some do. Different strokes. I'm not going to get into the arguments because they're repetitive.

Why am I not surprised?

Sorry no, PFF is hardly reliable. It's just the only source that offers those sort of stats. While they are sometimes accurate, sometimes it's like they didn't even watch the game and just wrote down a number. For example, Jimmy's negative rating.

Thanks to you and a few others for backing me up here. I thought I was the only one noticing significant improvement from Jimmy.

Nope. I love what I've seen from Smith so far this year. He's done very well. People love to hate on the guy so I'm not surprised.

He's got some ugly tape though.  Every now and then he'll get beat ugly.

Plenty of guys on this team have been beat. You notice it more because he's in the secondary. I've witnessed Ngata get beat plenty. It happens. Nobody is perfect. Problem is when it's a CB people notice it more because there's a good chance it'll be for a big play.

I like Jimmy too.  and everyone gets beat.  Literally every player every game.  Just sometimes Jimmy's technique breaks down, or he'll trip up.  But he's helping us win games.  And more often than not he's winning the battles out there.

EDIT:  I know we've been hard on him here, but Ngata dominated yesterday.  He ruined the pocket and their running game.

Yeah, Jimmy has those mistakes but it's important to mention that he hasn't seen the snaps Webb did at their respective points in their careers. Now I could go back and review it and maybe I will. I think I will tonight. I'm just saying that he's hated on a lot and some of those mistakes come from him being experience.

Ngata played very well this last game.

That's because they don't give every Raven a positive grade, thus someone like you who is incapable of watching and judging player performance objectively would obviously disagree with them.

I liked how PFF basically brushed off Suggs' 3 sacks in the game just because he didn't have any pressures up until that point.

not a fan of the ratings because that's entirely subjective, but their stats are easily the best out there

Let me "learn you something real quick," read the post you're arguing against carefully.  I said he isn't worthless, and I've repeatedly mentioned all the value he's brought to this team and scoffed at every person who insinuated differently.  You are arguing against me when I am on your side, but since you want an argument...

Jim Brown was able to do more with less help than any RB ever.  Have you seen all those runs he made where he literally dragged multiple defenders from behind the line of scrimmage into the endzone?  That is something he did with regularity, and something that no other RB in history was able to do as often as he was.  I am on your side when you say we should not give up on Rice, but when you make any mention of Jim Brown in your argument, it immediately causes your argument to lose any merit.  He is the greatest of all time, so he clearly has nothing at all to do with anything we're discussing here.

You obviously missed the point of the reference. Which was that even the greatest running back ever would fail with an atrocious offensive line. And, yes that truth even applies to Jim Brown and any other running back in history.

Jimmy isn't anywhere near the "shutdown" CB we drafted him to be but he is definitely making strides so far this season. You can say he should be further along and I'd agree but as long as he continues to improve, I don't see the Ravens giving up on him next season.

As for Rice, his production is not worth his paycheck right now. That doesn't mean he's on the decline or he's done. He's hampered by a hip injury right now and our O line has not exactly been playing up to par. Rice is not a power back. Pierce is going to look better behind a poor O line because he is a different kind of RB than Rice

Exactly Rice is starting to decline ever since that hip flexor, I hope it dosen't affect his value but right now he isn't worth the money he is getting paid

i think you should take a look in the mirror. Need I remind you of this post from January that you made

"The next time the Ravens hoist the Lombardi Flacco won't be a part of this team. "

You can't judge player performance obviously because leading up to that playoff run all you did was slam flacco.

See exhibit b

"No I completely Disagree Joe having ONE game winning drive against Pittsburgh does not make him clutch. He is the opposite of clutch he can't do anything when his back is against the wall. When he is called upon to lead this offense and put up points he continually fails. Time after time after time he can't produce points."

Somehow I'd imagine no one will take heed of your criticisms of any player again, not that they did previously.

He's creating nothing on his own as a rusher and has fumbled 5 times in his last 8 games; his value is obviously at an all-time low. We can only hope he and the o-line can improve in the coming weeks.

A good rule of thumb is to ignore anything people say about Jimmy.

So you, an extremely biased Ravens fan doesn't agree with the negative rating it gave a Ravens player and thus they are not creditable.

Yeah I'm sure if they gave every Ravens player a positive grade you would be their biggest fan. Just because you don't agree with them does not make them wrong.

Haha, let's see him BS his way out of that one.
Even previous to leading us to the SB Flacco has proven how clutch he is....he sounds like another one of those guys who reads what other people say and repeat it without thinking or paying attention to the game.

Injuries occur all the time you can't predicate contracts based on injury potential. Rice has been consistently healthy throughout his career. He is defiantly worth every cent of the 5 million he makes.

Right, because Barry Sanders played behind Hall of Fame linemen his whole career.

Come on, how are you even going to try and argue this, have you ever played organized football? Games are won and lost where? You don't need a HOF line to be successful at rushing, but you need to perform better than our current line has to be successful running the football. The primary issue of this team, not just the offense is the O-line.

Even so, just because Barry, a top three running back ever often made a lot of nothing how fair is it to compare him to Rice? Obviously, Rice isn't as good as Barry; so by saying Barry could do it, isn't proving anything other than Rice isn't a first ballot HOF legendary running back.
