Ravens re-sign WR Brandon Stokely and re-cut TE Billy Bajema

108 posts in this topic

I was thinking the same thing. It seems strange that we cut Bajema then cut Stokley then re-signed Bajema.

Maybe the hope was that Stokley would be able to go this Sunday and it turned out he wasn't ready.

I like Bajema and by the sound of it Stokley is going to back, which I'm ok with. We could always keep McKinnie as back up and move Wagner to IR.

Ah. Now I see. Perhaps we have something with Miami. Interesting that we're waiting until after the game. Sounds like we gave a deal in place.

We'll know forsure if McKinnie doesn't even dress for the game.  In baseball at least when a trade is in place the guy who was dealt doesn't play in the game the night of if the trade happened at like 3 or 4pm.

I would assume theres no way Miami would sign off on the deal if we were going to dress McKinnie and use him in the game after the deal was in place.

My guess with all this is that they dropped Bajema to bring in Monroe, and they spent the week looking at trading McKinnie, and when he was traded, resigning Bajema. When they couldn't find a partner (yet), they decided to bring back Bajema to play on Sunday, and, knowing Stokley wasn't going to play Sunday, they cut Stokley.

They'll probably wait to resign Stokley until they can finally ship McKinnie somewhere else and open back up the roster spot

Ya know. My bet is that we trade Mckinnie for a pick. Keep both of these guys.

But NEW TOPIC(since Billy is here)

Would Billy really be any worse than Dickson? He could at least block lol. And probably catch A pass lol

Why do any of you think McKinnie has trade value with his speed, weight issues, lack of maturity, sometimey blocking effort, and age??? I don't think he will get traded. I don't think there is a market. When Monroe gets phased in at who know what position for right now, Mckinnie will be a good luxury. Better than ANY rookie lineman we have on the depth chart.

Second - there is no way Monroe can start this game and sit McKinnie. There is too much to learn and absorb, especially in the pro game.

Is it even worth bringing Stokley back at this point?  Obviously Torrey, Marlon, and Jacoby will all be above him on the depth chart.  Deonte is showing some ability out there.  Doss is too, and he can return punts which only adds to his value.  Is there any point in re-signing him now unless there are continuing health issues?

You know, I've thought about that, too.

Looking at where the Ravens stand at WR, they've got... * X: Torrey Smith - Without-a-question, Smith is the #1 receiver on this team. It's amazing how much he has grown. And, not just as a weapon; but, also as a leader on offense.

* Z: Jacoby Jones/Deonte Thompson - When J.J. is ready to return (which, hopefully, is next week), he will re-assume his position as the outside receiver, who can go deep and be a speedster. I've also included Thompson as the Y receiver because his skills are comparable to Jacoby's and whenever Jones needs a breather, Deonte can fill-in nicely for him.

* Y: Marlon Brown - As evident by the Buffalo game, Brown is developing as Baltimore's slot guy. As long as he stays healthy, he has the height and speed to move the chains.

* "Extra WR": Tandon Doss - And, this is where Brandon Stokley would fit in this offense. However, I just think Doss is capable of doing what Stokley was already doing, which was being that extra receiver (sometimes as the 3rd WR on-the-field or the 4th, if the Ravens are lined-up in the spread) who could attack a defender playing zone. Plus, Doss is doing a stellar job as the team's punt returner; so, he has that advantage over Brandon Stokley, as well as being quicker than him.

Basically, the Ravens, when healthy, actually have a strong core of young talent at wide receiver. Oddly enough, when Jacoby Jones got hurt, it was almost a present in disguise, if you will. His injury allowed for Brown, Doss and Thompson to show what they have; and, pretty much, all three have overachieved, so far. Unfortunately for Stokley, being the sixth wide receiver on the team doesn't really hold that much value.

At worst, I think John Harbaugh has already told (or will tell) Brandon Stokley, if the team doesn't re-sign him on Monday, to stay put, as the team will re-sign him, again, if another injury happens to one of the receivers. So, essentially, what New England did with Deion Branch the last couple of years. I think the same will happen to Dallas Clark when Dennis Pitta returns.

I guarantee Monroe starts.

I've read that he is, but I'm not sure how. We'll know soon.

Yeah I saw the report that said we'd be re-signing him yesterday.  It's now today, and still no Stokley.  Maybe they had a change of heart?

My best guess is we truly are trying to trade someone. That's what makes sense. It might not be McKinnie.

Do we even have anyone worthy of trading that we can't use?  I really can't think of anybody.

Plus, if Anquan Boldin is only worth a sixth what could the Ravens get out of a possible trade? Two thirds for Joe Flacco?

I might be tempted to offer someone a seventh if they'll jus take Ed Dickson/Josh Bynes.

That's true but he's the yo-yo of the team.

At least he's not Jeremy Ebert from the Jags.  The guy gets signed to practice squad, signed to the active roster, cut, and back over again every week.  I'm truly not exaggerating haha.

Him and G Jacques McClendon. I swear we are at 10 transactions with them by now this season.
