"The biggest surprise of the day was tight end Dennis Pitta catching passes off to the side from the JUGS machine. Pitta is on injured reserve-designated for return list after injuring his hip on the first day of contact drills at training camp. He recently came off crutches."

"Pitta is eligible to return to practice on Oct. 21 and play in the Week 9 game at the Cleveland Browns. But the more realistic timetable for Pitta is some point toward the end of the regular season. There are also no guarantees that Pitta will be able to play this season."

Well, he has 17 days to get back into football shape for official practice. And may return early November.

The fact that he's off crutches is a good sign.

I guess soon, it'll be ok for him to say

He will be back,

there is hope ravens nation.

We'll be getting the go to guy back soon.

Torrey

Jacoby

Stokley

Marlon

Thompson

Pitta

Clark(I think we cut Dickson, since Clark can occasionally catch a pass)

Not bad. Not bad at all.......

I rather us just shut him down. Browns are running away with the division, we got no hope, let's play for next year.

But really, this is great news. I'm glad he's catching passes again. I guess the next step is running eventually?

If this OL can settle in with the addition of Monroe and if we can get Pitta back late this year it just might be the perfect storm for a deep playoff run. It doesn't matter who's playing the best Football right now, it matters who's playing the best in December/January and we should know that better then anyone. With the influx of young players taking on significant roles and the injury situation with Pitta this team looks like it will be better as the year goes along. Plenty of teams making a lot of noise right now will peak too early and won't be playing their best football when it really matters.

It's actually not the same injury that terminated Jackson's career. Jackson had avascular necrosis related to his hip injury as a consequence of him not getting the proper treatment. Please, look up the disease avascular necrosis to understand how this is entirely different as far we know.

Avascular necrosis is a complication of a hip fracture but it's merely that. As far as we know, Pitta has had no complications. All reports confirm this.

They should have a losing record again in about 2 weeks.

The first part sounds a lot like the national media and a few members on here, haha

It's only 5 games into the 16game season; next couple weeks will reveal who they really are.  Beside, they are still the losing Browns....

The Browns are going to give us problems in the future if Norv Turner gets free reign with that offense (trading Richardson and getting a stronger armed QB under center, it appears he already has control) because San Diego always put points up on us.

But for this season we have to grind out some hard wins, if Pitta comes back 100% and the defense is still in tact we will be hanging another banner in Baltimore baby!

I hope we take no chances.

The risk to further injure himself is not worth the reward, in my opinion. Regardless, this is great news!

Those saying "I'd rather not rush him back" and "shut him down for the year" blah blah blah. You REALLY think the medical staff, trainers and coaches would allow him to play if he wasnt fully capable? Really? Let them do their job and if he suits up this year, GREAT! If not, so be it.

I totally agree with this.

Even a walking Pitta is faster than a full sprint Clark, and even if Pitta only had one hand, he'd still be better than Dickson with stick em on his gloves... lol

This would  be huge for us. I don't see why people think we are missing Boldin. We truly aren't. We have some pretty good receivers who can do some great things, and this will be helped out by Thompson getting back into the flow of things again, as well as Jones coming in and making splash plays from time to time when he gets healthy. What we are missing is Pitta's go-to presence from the TE position. People seem to forget that Boldin didn't do so hot for us in the regular season, so it's not like he was that big of a factor for us, especially considering the fact that Torrey drew the opponent's best corner pretty much every single week.

Dickson has actually become a pretty good blocker.  Someone has to block.

Clark at least has more catches than drops.

since it the same injury that ended Bo Jackson career, I dont want him to come back until he is completely healed & ready.

Not really. Bo lost blood flow to the joint, which is what caused all the damage. Not the case with Pitta.
