Next year, it looks as though we're going to be able to keep our personnel in tact unlike previous years! We actually may be able to sign both our tackles and our offensive line may be solidified for the long term.
Right now, we have 41 players under contract totaling roughly $115M. However if we cut, McClain ($3.2 Million Cap savings), McKinnie ($3 million cap savings), and Leach ($2.3 Million Cap savings), we'd be looking at 8.5 million in savings. If the cap number comes in roughly $125 Million, we'd be looking at $18.5 Million to spend to fill out the roster of another 13 players.
We could also sign Suggs to an extension this year to reduce his cap hit of $12.4M to somewhere around $8M hit this year we'd have another $5M to spend for next year.
When you figure in 8 draft picks around $4M we have roughly $20 Million to spend.
You have to figure that Monroe figures into the Ravens long term plans. If he signs a contract like Jake Long then you are looking at a 4 year deal of $34M -- with a cap hit of $4.2 Million next year.
And if they sign Oher to a contract similiar to most RTs -- 4 year $20 Milliion with cap hit of around $4M next year, then we're looking at locking up both our tackles with a cap hit of around $8M.
That leaves us around $12 Million left to sign Pitta, and Torrey Smith to deals!
I believe we're in the best shape than we have been in a long time as far as the Salary Cap situation is concerned!
The only player I think we'll be unable to sign is Daryl Smith off this years team. With the year he's having he'll be able to command a 3 year / $12 Million dollar contract at least, however we'll be stock full of draft picks and perhaps Rolando McClain will get his act together!
This trade for Monroe was a absolute steal! We'd never find a quality LT in the draft as low as we always draft -- and to grab someone with a work ethic / quality individual -- fits the Ravens mold! And how did Ozzie get Jacksonville to flip paying his salary on top of that! Amazing!
Our future looks bright!
Until next time,
