The Raven

Is Juan Castillo the problem?

I'm going to go with Michael Oher, considering he hasn't been a good run blocker, or really a good OT in general, for a long time.

That entire blurb is depressing.

I also think something is off with Osemele.  He just doesn't look like the same physical specimen he did last year.

I agree. That article is just a rehash of what we know a bit of. However, you can't completely trust their analysis because outside of a player being beat, you don't know who misses their blocks. BTW, Oher possibility is the best performing OL this year, so he is far from a lost cause.

Oher has been terrible in run blocking . Not sure what you are watching.

Oher? I doubt it. Yanda has been too busy trying to cover Oher and Gino's screwups to be his usual self, but Oher's track record alone shows he is a lost cause

So you agree with me? Oher has no clue what he is doing.

Oher has made two good blocks that resulted in big gains. That is all he has done this season for the run game. Really. That's all.

Anyone with a pair of eyes and football sense can tell that Yanda is picking up the slack.

it's the whole line and blocking scheme; it's not one man. I'm done with this topic till proven otherwise.

Stop being fanboys and idiots.

It doesn't take a great mind to watch the games and see what's going on.  Right now our Pro Bowl Guard is looking after his pals and the rest of the line is paying for it.  Gino and Oher HAVE to pick it up, period.

You're right, it's three men. KO, Gino, and Oher.

We're not being fanboys and idiots. We just happen to have a clue.

Yes, everyone is wrong and you are right.
Or maybe, just maybe, Yanda gets hung out to dry by the lost cause to his right, and the just as clueless center to his left. By the way, nobody said it is just one guy.

Well, I like Preston personally. He tells it like it is, and he's right more times than the readers give him credit for.

And despite being the starter of this topic, it looks like Castillo is the problem. I thought his track record showed that we should give his schemes a chance, but it's clear that he was fitting round pieces in square holes.

Yes, this means I am admitting that I was wrong, lol.

I know Bisciotti doesn't want to be a meddling owner, but he needs to hand down an edict:

No more hiring anymore FoH, especially when it requires creating a new title & position just for them.

Didn't tell us anything we didn't already know, but sometimes it is nice to get an outsiders POV confirming what we see.
It's mainly horrible play by nearly everyone. He repeated something I said a few days ago...it's tough for Yanda to play well when the guys on either side of him are playing so poorly...which is why I am hoping that the addition of Monroe starts a domino effect. If he plays well, it helps KO play better. If KO improves, hopefully that leads to Gino having two quality OG to help him. Oher is a lost cause, but if four of the five can work together and do a good job, it will go a long way

There is something fundamentally wrong with our running game. If it looks like a pig, walks like a pig and talks like a pig then it's usually a pig. Our running game is a pig right now.

We are a team that has had a strong running game for years. Now all of a sudden we can't run the ball at all. The playing personnel hasn't changed, other than Gino Gradkowski, so I am inclined to look elsewhere when apportioning blame for the mess we are in. Juan Castillo and Jim Caldwell are the two men who have some serious questions to answer here.

Castillo - I don't know exactly what his list of duties are but any man who is employed as a run game co-ordinator on a team that struggles to average 3 yards per carry has to be in danger of losing their job.

Caldwell - His play calling has become so vanilla and so predictable that it's painful to watch. If ordinary fans who have no coaching credentials can guess what we're going to do on 1st and 2nd down then what do you think opposing defensive co-ordinator's are making of our offense? They must know the types of plays we're going to call before we do. You cannot win that way. You have to get the opposing defense off balance and keep them guessing as much as possible. Our offense has no balance right now and Caldwell is the man calling the plays so he has to answer for that.

We all know about the loss of Boldin and the injury to Pitta. You can't just gloss over that and I guess it was to be expected that there would be an offensive downturn this year because of those things. Not to this extent though. This offense is horrible right now. Really, really bad. John Harbaugh needs to figure out why things aren't working and who is to blame for it. He then needs to put things right - urgently. If that means a coaching casualty before Week 9 comes round then so be it.

according to 105.7 the Fan, the players called a meeting with coaches after the game and said

they wanted to go back to last year's blocking scheme.I heard it was damn near a mutiny similar

to the session after last year's Houston game.

So Castillo did make some changes that have worked out very badly.

I think he will be fired if the wrinkles are adjusted properly and soon.

It wasn't damn near a mutiny from any reports.  The Oline had a meeting according to the sun.
