LT Bryant McKinnie

It's probably hard to trade McKinnie right now. He's an improvement over other LTs in the league though. I wouldn't like a draft pick for McKinnie, and I doubt any team would do that. But a player-for-player exchange might be nice.

Gino Gradkowski is young. 2nd year pro, first year starting. There's going to be a big drop off from Matt Birk to him. This is the price we pay.

Brandon May finally have a worth while post because it does seem like we want to shift him and the cards seem a likely destination.

Does anyone think we can package McKinnie and like a 5th round pick for Barrett Jones in st. Louis?

He's a bama guy. I'm sure Ozzie would love that suggestion.

Now, I'm not one to throw out trade ideas to sound crazy but if we continue to have problems with the O-Line is it possible we would see more trades?

I don't know many decent centers really, I admit it's a spot I overlook a lot, are there any possibilities for a McKinnie-Center trade?

I think he'll be cut within the next 2 weeks.

I'm not sure it makes much sense to cut him.  We're paying him whether he's on the team or not, unless there's a trade.  Why unload him if we're going to be paying him anyway?  He at least offers some insurance.

Agreed. It makes sense to keep him if we can't trade him. Use him as a TE.

Either they trade him or he rides the roster. No reason to cut a guy you're gonna get no cap relief from.

A little off topic, but I even like the way Monroe looks compared to McKinnie. Just looks so lean. haha

He's so bad run blocking you might as well use Wagner in that role.

We've used him in the role before. It was last year, in fact. He didn't look very good early on but you could see he put forth effort later on.

Not directed at me, but he's referring to McKinnie as an extra blocker in goal line situations.  He technically reports as a TE, but is really only an extra blocker.

Using McKinnie at TE on short yardage situations as an extra blocker. It's what we did last year. It wasn't effective early on but later on in the year it became more effective.

Yeah. That's it but we used it on some short yardage situations. I'd rather use McKinnie than Reid. Wagner is also good.

If any team will give us ANY draft pick for him it's a win, the only thing he has going for him on the trade market is the value of his position. I'm sure a lot of GM's have him labeled as "Lazy, Unmotivated, Off field issues" and wouldn't even trade a 7th for him. Considering we have next to no depth at Tackle it might not be a bad idea to keep him for depth if he's mature enough to embrace that role.

I'd be happy if it was player for player. It wouldn't kill us to keep him around as a back-up. It's not the worst move. I agree with your sentiments, however, one injury could change all that and cause a team to make a move for him. Perhaps we have a deal in place and we're waiting for this Miami game to finish to complete it.

Miami could be one of the teams interested in him.

Yep I've vet much considered that. They're one of the teams I was thinking could be interested. We clearly wouldn't trade him before we play them.

I'm convinced that the Bajema release was more of a paper move than anything else.  He's probably the easiest to cut and bring back at this point.  I think they wanted that extra week to try and work out something for McKinnie.  Not sure if it will be player for player, though.

I think it depends on what they want and why they're trading him. If they're trading him for cap relief, we could trade for any third or fourth year player and cut them to save cap. If we're trying to generate value and picks we'll probably keep him if we can't trade him.

The question is whether or not we're looking to offload his contract.

Yeah I think that's entirely possible.  I was looking at it as more of a player (McKinnie) for player that comes in and actually plays for us.  With McKinnie's track record of being lazy and not playing well, I can't see anyone giving up anything worthwhile for him.  If we do trade him, I think it will be for a conditional pick type of deals that has an outside chance of being attainable (i.e. play every snap, we get a 7th round pick).  I wouldn't be surprised that in the end, we really just give him away for salary cap relief.

Then again, the Cards did get something out of a terrible Levi Brown...

Just a feeling. I bet Harbs doesn't want him anymore.

Jah Reid was used in that situation more then BMAC. Neither were very good .

For a monetary standpoint, it makes sense to keep him, even if he's a weekly inactive.  Jah Reid is the weekly inactive right now, and if we decided to cut him, we can save over $400K if I remember correctly.  Definitely not a fan of McKinnie, but I can't see us getting rid of him unless we save anything, which can only happen by trade.

Ya they were both garbage in that role.  Like I said, may as well use Wagner or Juice.
