Ravens acquire LT Eugene Monroe from Jaguars

820 posts in this topic

Dumbest post ever. You realize our best defensive player right now is a former Jaguar, right?

3rd-4th best.  Suggs is obviously the best, with Dumervil and Ngata somewhere in there.

From what I've heard Joeckel isn't ready.

Maybe he'll do better at LT, which is his more natural position, but him and Fisher have not looked good so far this season.

I think this post from their forum sums up this trade...

So let's see we lose Monroe and they get Oher and Monroe for players that would never make their roster anyways.

The excitement over this "deal" is entertaining.

The Jags huh?

The Jags are now a cornucopia of hidden talent per the fans here and the Raven Front Office!!!!  Their cup runneth over!!!!

Oh, I just can't even contain my excitement!!!!......I've peed my pants for the fourth time reading this thread!!!!

Why can't the Jags make a yard on the ground and why is Gabbert incessantly injured???

Why would the Jags trade a guy with immense ability for "Day 3" draft picks?

Come on man!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we're gonna also have to give them Cleats Elam and Dickson as well.

Contain your exuberance.

So, Victor Cruz is a bad player as well. You know because they are 0-4. Why do you think Monroe still had the LT job from Joekel? Wow, you really are uneducated on this matter.

Are you agreeing with me? We'll get a comp pick for Kruger and Ellerbe but replaced them with Dumervil and Smith at minimal cost. We'll get something for Reed and although Huff is a backup now he cost us nothing either. So essentially those comp picks aren't needed to replace anyone. Hence my point.

Go away. Please.

I'm afraid telling them to go away doesn't work or else that "Joe Flacco is a game manager" thread would be MUCH shorter. I knew this team would struggle early on, but getting into "start Tyrod Taylor" territory this soon in the season, is kind of ridiculous.

Let me get this right....

The Jags had the 5th or 6th BEST Left Tackle in the game....

They decided to use the #2 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft to draft ANOTHER Left Tackle....

Gabbert can't stay healthy....

Maurice James Drew can't get a 3 yard run.....

Ozzie STEALS Monroe for later round draft picks....

What am I missing?

LMAO

I don't think fans understand the idea of draft picks. A draft pick is the rights to a minimal 4-year contract on a young player who is almost guaranteed to exceed that value. Draft value deteriorates as the contract shrinks. That's why we're getting him for late-round picks and that's why we only pawned Boldin off for a 6th. Fans always overestimate because they don't understand that.

Yeah, I'm just trying to be polite. The negative Nancy stuff is really tiring especially when I hear news like this. It's like this person is kind of like "Half empty, huh?" kind of guy to me. It's really tiring and the comments are clearly to bum us out but it's rather ineffective. I'm just sick of the negativity and most of it is just coming across as completely ignorant. It's like this person is purposely trying to play the role of devil's advocate, which I get and would even support but not to excess.

i gues that means marshal yanda should be trade bait for a 5th rounder as we have no run game whatsoever. monroe is 26 and is a very good left tackle.

Ravens/Jags will announce the Monroe trade Wed. Ravens are not giving him a new deal now, but could eventuall. two mid-round picks to JAX

Beat me to it.  Depending on what the picks are, this could be a worthwhile deal even without a long term contract.

I wonder how we'll fit him under the cap? Really strange. Perhaps we have another trade underway? Maybe we're trading one of our players to free up cap space.

Ravens need approx $1.326M in Cap space to fit Monroe under Cap. Some of that will come from OL he replaces. Jah Reid is most, approx $400K

Is Christian Thompson's release apart of that figure? Because, if not, he alone saves the Ravens roughly somewhere between $300,000 and $400,000, if I remember correctly.

So the LT is responsible for an entire OL that's rather lackluster? Monroe is arguably their best player on offense, including MJD. He can't do it all by himself. He's one guy. Just because Gabbert's been hurt doesn't mean all the pressure and sacks have been surrendered by Monroe. There are four other players on the OL, you know. You insult others and condescend and you seem to think you'll gain respect or notoriety from it but all you do is serve to make yourself appear conceited.

Ozzie has said he is not against restructuring contracts but only if an opportunity arose to bring in a big time talent. I would say Monroe applies.

If my math is right, I think we can get about $6 million in cap space from cutting McKinnie, which is inevitable now, and Jameel McClain.  That might be enough to keep Monroe, but it's going to be tight either way.

That looks about right. Huff and Leach could go too.

Eh. I couldn't care less and neither should you. The Ravens are one of the most consistently successfull franchises in the NFL. And they are that for a reason. Joe is part of that, even if people want to blow one bad game out of proportions and this trade is another. This is a well drafting, well trading, well coached and well playing team.

There is no need to discuss or try to convince. Reality has a pro-Ravens bias.

That was a bare bones estimate, but my mock currently has Leach gone as well for another $1.75.  With as few possessions as he's seen so far it's safe to assume Huff is on the chopping block as well.  Hopefully we can keep Monroe, I think he's good enough to be our LT for most of the rest of Joe's career.

I have to share this post... their forum is going crazy over this. This post made me laugh harder than I should have.

When Gabbert heard about this, he called Chad Henne and tried to tell him he could have the starting job.

...Unfortunately Henne heard the news first, and had already bolted.  Ricky Stanzi's number was also busy.  Gabbert then proceeded to call Justin Blackmon up and ask him for advice on getting a DUI and a nice suspension.
