Ravens acquire LT Eugene Monroe from Jaguars

820 posts in this topic

We need to extend Monroe, but I'm trying to figure out the math on how to do that.  I thought we were going to be tight against the cap again.

We always are.

I can't help but crack up at their forums. I read it from beginning to end and once they found out it was a 1st,2nd or 3rd it got crazy in there. I truly feel sorry for them to be honest. He's a good quote I took from there which I think makes a good point.

I won't be happy if they are 3rd day picks.

We could get more in terms of compensatory picks for letting him walk.

See I told you guys Jacksonville would do something to counter Cleveland trading Trent Richardson. Then of course, Brian Hoyer screwed that up by winning.

Multiple Third Day Picks, meaning 4th -7th Rounds.

Really? For a top 10 LT?

My God.

Here's to another former Jaguar balling out.

Do you realize we probably got Monroe for the compensatory picks we are due from all the losses this offseason? I know you can't technically trade your compensatory picks but we have to be in line for at least 3 mid to late round compensatory picks next year. So we'll trade our original picks and get replacement picks anyway. It's a wash. We gave up essentially nothing.

No, I'm not missing the point at all. Sure... in his small mind... he hit the lotto. In the mind of a real football player, he should hate himself. His contract TOTAL Value was 24 million... he walked away with 9 million and could have made 15 more... IDIOT

edit: to be clear, I was calling Gaither an idiot, not you.

Favorites from the Jags forum:

We get a bunch of 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks. This has got to be the BIGGEST TROLL EVER.

WHERE'S GENE SMITH AT? THIS HAS GOT TO BE HIM IN DISGUISE!

R.I.P. Blaine Gabbert.

You might not have been a decent QB.  You might have felt phantom pressure all the time.  But to die so young.  Sorry it happened like this.

Teddy Bridgewater just decided not to declare.

I am simply ecstatic. At his best, Eugene Monroe is one of the best young LTs in football. He wasn't off to a great start in 2013, but he was on arguably the worst offense in all of football. A change of scenery should do wonders for him.

The excitement over this "deal" is entertaining.

The Jags huh?

The Jags are now a cornucopia of hidden talent per the fans here and the Raven Front Office!!!!  Their cup runneth over!!!!

Oh, I just can't even contain my excitement!!!!......I've peed my pants for the fourth time reading this thread!!!!

Why can't the Jags make a yard on the ground and why is Gabbert incessantly injured???

Why would the Jags trade a guy with immense ability for "Day 3" draft picks?

Come on man!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we're gonna also have to give them Cleats Elam and Dickson as well.

Contain your exuberance.

I am reading it now, I see they get all excited and praise their GM because they think they are getting a high round pick. Then everything goes south when they learn it's just third day picks.

I'd like more details.  What restructurings are happening to get this done, and how can we sign him long term.  The move is ultimately not worth making unless you're thinking beyond this year.  OL is clearly the greatest problem on the team, but the difference in Monroe to McKinnie over the last 12 (really 11, I doubt he plays this Sunday since he probably won't have the line calls down for communication purposes by then) won't be as great a difference as we want to believe.  Monroe can and probably will play better, but the line problems in the interior are still there, we still don't have a TE worth anything, and the receiving corps is still young despite the promise we've seen from Brown and DT.

Dumbest post ever. You realize our best defensive player right now is a former Jaguar, right?
