Ravens acquire LT Eugene Monroe from Jaguars

820 posts in this topic

I know his contract is guaranteed, but would it be worth exploring trades with a team like the Cardinals for McKinnie just to recoup some draft picks?

Maybe a team could give us their center for him lol

Our first real left tackle since JO. I like it! Next year's draft is all freed up now.

We saw how Joe looked, when McKinnie played well in the playoffs. Just sayin. ;)

I don't know about that. Jared Gaither was really good while he was playing for his big payday. He could have been a perennial Pro bowler if he put his mind to it. Too bad really.

It might be better to phrase it this way:  Monroe may be the most 'consistent' LT we've had since JO.  Ofcourse that is yet to be seen.

He never got a big payday, at least not big LT money

I think if we extend Monroe, let Oher walk, and cut McKinnie, and make no other (unlikely) moves between now and next year this would be our line-up on the OL:

Monroe | Wagner/Jensen | Gradkowski | Yanda | KO

I don't think he really played that well in the playoffs. The O-line gave up 7 sacks and 3.9 ypc in four games (which is subpar), and McKinnie was probably the worst performer of the bunch.

Man...if we can lock him up this would be fantastic news. I'm definitely worried about the fact that his contract is up this year.

Wagner and KO will surely be starting.  Depends on how KO plays at LG this year next to Monroe.  We'll get a chance to see it.

Yes he did. The Chargers gave him one. $12 million guaranteed if I remember correctly. They cut him the next year.

I don't know how in the world Ozzie would get a franchise young LT in exchange for some nickels? oh well, that's Wizard of Oz...

I must be dreaming, for real....

It's funny. Before the reports of mid to late round picks as compensation were announced, Jaguar fans were expecting "at least a 1st round pick". Then one of them pointed out they made a trade with Ozzie Newsome. Nobody wins a trade with Ozzie. haha

I was just reading that on a Jaguars board lol

They really had no clue who they were dealing with

Not horrible, but it has potential. But can that line live up to it.

You know some bad FO is going to overpay for Oher's name alone.  I have to think we extend Monroe's contract, since this is a play for next year's O-line as well.

Do you realize how much high quality LTs get paid? That was a small contract for a LT... They didn't feel that great about him..

Agreed. Ozzie covets those late-round picks and wouldn't part with multiple picks if he didn't think we'd have Monroe long-term.

We need to extend Monroe, but I'm trying to figure out the math on how to do that.  I thought we were going to be tight against the cap again.

Monroe's wife will be happy since she is from the Baltimore area.

Just got off phone with Eugene Monrie. It's bittersweet deal for him. His wife's from Baltimore area and he's headed to a winner. ...

How much did we give up?

It hasn't been released yet since it's technically not official until he passes his physical tomorrow morning.

You're missing the point. He wanted a big pay day. $12 million is big enough. He wanted f-you type money so he can not work another day in his life. He got it. He's not in the league anymore.

Maybe not multiple picks... but he have up a 4th for the Josh Wilson rental.
