Ravens acquire LT Eugene Monroe from Jaguars

Claim down. It's not a personal attack not need to get bent outta shape.

Well, logically, I'm in agreement with you and if I'm ever charged again with a "personal attack" for pointing out that a poster has made 15,777 posts when stating "he rarely posts" I'll appeal to your good judgement.

Well, I'd say that verifies my opinion of (a motivated, sober, healthy) McKinnie being better in pass pro. But I'd be wary of relying on stats for an OL when Gabbert is the QB

Not only that, the rest of the talent around him was so poor. Much the same as Smith. A lot of people credit BMac for the success of the Super Bowl run. But I don't. He played well but imo it had more to do with KO, Birk and Yanda playing exceptionally well and allowing Flacco to step up in the pocket.

Like you I feel a motivated BMac is a really good BMac. But what I'm seeing is what I fearedd about brining him back, there is nothing to push him towards playing well. Benching him and cutting his salary were already tacticss used, his first Super Bowl ring is off the table and he doesn't seem like the type of player who wants to build a HOF resume. So what is there to motivate the big fella right now?

La Canfora is reporting that the Browns were willing to give up a 2nd day pick and eat Monroe's full contract. When they called, the Jags said the deal was pretty much done with us. Crazy.

Now... that seems odd.  I think they wanted to do Monroe a favor and trade him to a winner.  Even though the browns are playing well and with Monroe would be good.

Eugene Monroe is a good enough run blocker. It's not like LT are known to be great run blockers. They're usually LT because they're very good against the pass rush. That's not to say all LT are bad or have to be bad at run blocking. That's ridiculous. Just saying I doubt we're expecting him to be some lights out run blocker.

I get the devil's advocate stuff and the idea behind being realistic but it's not advised to play it to the extreme at all times, either

Where were they going to play him? I guess guard or right tackle? Makes little sense.

If Monroe was holding up the Jaguars Offensive Line by himself, we'll see when he starts for us.

Don't know if he starts today or not, but if he does, will watch him closely.

That's a fair statement right there. I think you need to chill with the negative Nancy bit. It's getting old. You could take the fun out of funny. It's getting old. I don't mind realism and I'm not trying to presume to tell you what to do but you can criticize without constantly condemning.

You often make me wonder if our FO can do anything right in your eyes.

That's one of the things that set JO apart. He was superior in the run and pass game. Other guys like Walter Jones and Orlando Pace were great at one and pretty good in other areas.

It's rare to see a guy dominant in both areas. Monroe will be fine imo.

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could get JO to give Monroe some pointers? He's frequently at the Castle.

I can be "persuaded" by results.

Until that time, I am vehemently in disagreement with the Raven Front Office and will not buy into any "Salary Cap" constraint argument.

The FO purged players that timing dictated could not be let go.  Until it's overcome in the W / L columns I'll have a problem with it and am going to talk about it.

I'll root for the Ravens in a couple hours, but if things go poorly today, or throughout the year no one gets a pass.

Apparently they really just wanted to block us.  Expressed interested in Levi Brown as well.

Well... JO was good in all ways.  But Jake long for his early career was pretty complete in both.  But he's been pretty meh since injuries hit him.

Ummmm... Veldheer out in oakland can be great in both.  He's really athletic, but he's really inconsistent.  I don't know who else I'd put up there.  Matt Kalil is playing pretty well.  But I'm just trying to name people who CAN be both pass and run effective.

JO was excellent virtually every snap.

Immature. What a bunch of kids. I hate Cleveland even more now. I wouldn't have cared if they made the playoffs before but now I hope they continue their failures.

McKinnie is truly awful.  He is a cancer to the O line and his lazy efforts are costing this team opportunities.  I can't wait to see Monroe on the field.

Who else is psyched that we're done with Bryant McKinnie?  He was good in the playoffs, but he got that last paycheck and doesn't seem to care anymore.  I had high hopes he was going to keep going strong this season when it was reported that he was actually working out in the off-season for once, but alas you can't put faith in players like Fat Mac.

I agree with both of you. I would even like to say we timed the trade very well. Got Monroe right before Joeckel went down. Had we waited, we probably would have had to pay more or not been able to get Monroe at all.

Pretty soon, the NFL may check us out to make sure we didn't hurt Joeckel so we could trade McKinnie to the Jaguars, lol. Hopefully we can somehow manage to trade Bryant.

I bet the Jags wish they never made that trade now ! Luke Joeckel out for season, maybe we trade them B-Mack for a 4th and 5th

Wow. Really? You may be onto something with the trade at least, not sure about the pick selection.

That isn't even awful .. that was just pure lazy.  He gave them almost nothing today.  The play where Flacco threw the INT, McKinnie gave no real effort to block his man.  That deep in your own territory on 3rd down and you play like you couldn't care less.  I thought he would at least play for pride with the Ravens trading for Monroe.  He's done .. he has to be.

That would be nice.  Miami and Arizona are still potential landing spots.  Hopefully we can get him off of the team and get something for him.
