I know it's not going to happen but it would be insane if Tony found his way to the Castle.

All this fan wants is a competent TE. Is that too much to ask!?

How many QBs say the wrong things?  The last glaring example of that was Derek Anderson who was a nobody.  Rex says enough of the wrong things for everyone on the Jets, and if Geno did say something dumb it would probably get washed away by whatever Rex said anyway.  Regardless, these kids have been taught how to tell the media nothing for many years now, it'd be weird if he wasn't able to do that.

Is the shell-shocked rookie really a thing anymore?  I hate comparing Geno to last year's class because he's nowhere near that level, but in the terrible Arians offense Andrew Luck was constantly taking shots down the field.  Not being afraid to throw it down the field or into tight windows is a good thing, assuming you can hit it, so I'm not arguing that.  I'm not sure he has a large enough sample size to say that for certain, and I think the performance expected from rookie QBs nowadays is much higher.

No disagreements on the last point, but if you're setting the bar at Sanchez that's not a high bar.

I'm not.  Like I said I don't think he'll be great, but that doesn't mean I can't like the kid.  I've liked plenty of bad football players too!  Geno still has a long way to go, but he's off on the right foot.

They actually have an entire thread devoted to who ATL should trade Tony to so he has a shot at the SB lol

They do? Let's go invade their forums and tell them to tell Arthur Blank to be on the phone with Ozzie ASAP.

This is a frustrating time to be a Falcons fan..... Our D litterally makes every QB look Elite... In the pass they would atleast cause a turnover here and there... Now.... Its just straight bad

I forgot we had a Falcons fan on here. Please tell Mr. Blank to send Tony our way. Thanks.

Your FO's also been hopeless at getting some protection for Ryan, and I think the Dolphins have done the same thing. Skill players are nice, but it all starts with the fat men in the front (even though they don't win you fantasy points).

At any rate, well in for showing up after a performance like that. As far as fans of other teams go, I'd say you're one of the best around here.

Not happening.. I think Tony would retire rather then get traded to be honest

Your GM put all the money and good drafts picks in the skill positions...let your other positions squander. Defense is putrid. OL is putrid. Should've been worse really but Ryan has a very quick release.

I'm afraid y'all are finished tbh.

Oh and Mike Smith has been terrible.

Does anyone agree that trading up to get Julio Jones might be coming back to bite the Falcons in the rear just a little bit?

While I was watching the Falcons/Jets game last night, the thing that most occurred to me was... why can't the Ravens have a real offensive coordinator?  The difference between watching their offense and ours is really a night and day difference.  They have so many more creative play designs than we have.

They have an offensive coordinator who has been an Offensive Coordinator, play designers, play-caller for nearly 30 years in both college and the NFL.

We have an offensive coordinator who has never been an offensive coordinator, only been a position coach, and never called plays or designed them.

I think Jim Caldwell was insanely overrated by everyone around here in the off-season.  Honestly, I don't understand how this offense clicked so well in the post-season given how inexperienced Caldwell is.  Somehow things just went right for us.

But this season, Caldwell has shown his true colors as a totally inexperienced offensive coordinator.  He hasn't designed effective plays, he hasn't drawn up quality game plans, and he hasn't called quality plays in in-game situations.

I know we've had tons of injuries on the offensive side of the ball and Bryant McKinnie is playing like a lazy dog who just doesn't care about the team or football anymore, but we should be able to have more success than we're having on offense.  We rank 28th in the NFL in yards per play and have had the most 3rd and long (6+ to go) situations in the league with 54 (league average is 38).

I just don't understand why Flacco is always made to wait so long for receivers to come open, and then he winds up throwing to well covered receivers anyway.  There is almost never anyone wide open.  And even the underneath stuff is well covered and if the catch is made it often leads to a quick tackle for few yards after the catch.  Other than some big plays here and there, our average play is pretty horrid and we come up with nothing.  Plays are really hard to come by in this offense with receivers who are always so well covered.  Why aren't there more creative plays that get guys as wide open as I was seeing from the Falcons last night?  Matt Ryan always seems to have someone to throw the ball to immediately following the snap.  There are these quick plays that just get him in a rhythm and lead to a very high completion percentage, and then his guys make plays on their feet after the catch.

On a different note, it's interesting to me that Flacco has had such bad luck with interceptions.  Pretty much every pass that had even one tiny remote chance of being picked off, gets picked off.  Matt Ryan threw 4 interceptions last night.  Only, the Jets didn't actually catch any of them.  He was so lucky in that regard to not be picked off.  How many times this season has Flacco put the ball in his receiver's hands only to have it bounce away and come down in the other team's possession?  How many times do defenders jump routes and making crazy extended/diving/leaping grabs to catch a ball that a defender isn't supposed to be able to catch?  It seems like all but 1 or 2 of Flacco's interceptions are this type of unlucky/incredible-defensive play, whereas guys like Matt Ryan throw into coverage all the time but the defenders don't make plays on the ball like that or aren't good enough to finish the play and come down with possession.

Very frustrating.  I think we could have so much more success on offense if we just had a little more luck (or less bad luck) and if we had an offensive coordinator that knew how to draw up plays.  We need plays that involve easy completions, guys getting open.  We don't have that, we just don't, and it saddens me.

You've had some great posts, callahan, but this may be your best one yet.

The one thing that always sticks out to me when I watch other teams' games is how much separation their receivers get and how many "easy" throws are made. It goes beyond poor route running and the inability to create separation by our receivers.

I said this when cam was fired and Caldwell was promoted and got a negative reaction. as usual I agree with you 100 %. even the jets have creative plays that make Geno look like a veteran .I was sick watching that game last night .

Fix the O-Line, and our offense is fixed. It's hard to make plays when you only have a few seconds to throw in the pocket. Jets have a decent o-line which is why Geno looks so good.

I agree about the oline but from a play calling stand point we aren't very creative  offensively that was my point I know once things get fixed the offense will be functioning better . you can almost predict what we are going to do next

The sheer mentioning of that word got it removed lol

I don't know about some of you, but the images I saw last night on the Falcons message boards kept haunting me in my sleep.

Very, very well said, Callahan. I have to hope that you are wrong about Caldwell though. If he is not the guy can you imagine how many years he's likely to stay around? Cam didn't even win a SB ring and he got almost five years...

I agree. Not just with this game but with many games I watch. However, given the nature of our injuries, I think it makes it difficult to be as creative with the play calling. Add to that completely horrid O line play, yeah, I can see the conservative bent to our offensive play calling so far this season.

I'm hoping with the emergence of Brown & Thompson that we see a change.
