What does that even mean though? I mean as long as he's not arrested that's taking care of business off the field, for the most part. There's this mythos about how a QB carries himself that's ridiculous. Some players let things get to them, it's true, and it is a mental position, but there's no one way to do it. Flacco is different from Brady is different from Manning. I think most of that is one of those things the media makes up for their story lines where they try to make football games out to be epic battles of morality, and where they try to make football players out to be heroes.

Well they're basically out of the playoff race.  Gonzalez has to be pissed.  Maybe he'll push for a trade.  He didn't come back to miss the playoffs.

To the Ravens? Had to do it lol.

The thing that intrigues me about Geno is that he doesn't really have too many weapons around him.  Almost every other rookie QB has good weapons, or is running in the pistol formation.

Geno is decently accurate, and beat the Falcons in their house with mostly unknown receivers.

Only time will tell...

I wonder if Ozzie should get on the phone.

Beaten to it, but still...

Smith's license to go for it on 4th down is going to be revoked.  Two straight games he's been burned.

He isn't a Belichick nor does he have a Manning under Center.  When he went for it on fourth down, they didn't have Gonzo, Julio or Roddy on the field.

I'll do my best to refer to him as that from here on out.  When it's that early in the game, and a close game at that, you take the points.

While we're on the topic of game management issues, anytime a team is up by 6 in the fourth quarter and scores a TD, they should go for two to try and make it a 14 point game.  Not only did the Jets almost blow it tonight because they fell behind by one point because of that, but I've seen teams only go for 1 in that situation so many times, including the Falcons a couple of times last year.  It drives me insane.

Ok Enrique.

Awesome, someone took the bait.

That is a good point, and I don't disagree.  I should say Geno has done better so far than I expected of him, but again the Falcons do not have a worthwhile defense.  I don't doubt that he has to skills to be an ok QB, but I can't envision him ever getting into the top 10 at the position, and I don't believe you can win the Super Bowl in today's era without a top 10 QB.  But while Geno lacks talent at receiver outside of Santonio Holmes, the Jets OL is pretty good.  If there's one thing this season has proved, it's the important OL play.  I think it's a major factor in the Giants and Falcons struggles, and it's definitely a factor in our struggles.

AFC West: 8-1 vs NFC East

AFC East: 5-1 vs NFC South

I knew it was bull when everybody was talking how the AFC was inferior to any NFC contender.

He has been for a while. That's what happens when you can win in the playoffs ;)

I'd like to see Ryan behind this O-line over in Baltimore right now. See what it's like to get drilled or hurried constantly.

He wouldn't last 2 games that skinny lad!

No idea... All I know is that he was the winningest QB (including playoffs) last year.

I Agree that everyone does it differently, and I usually argue that same point as you.  But it's the mental side of a rookie that I am referring too.

Going into NY where you get scrutinize for everything you do or say (especially as the starting QB) and he's handled it well so far.  Even Ray Lewis before the game was saying how he's impressed with how Geno handles himself, how he says all the right things, etc.  It's important as a rookie.

As for on the field.  I like seeing a rookie who isn't afraid to take shots down the field, who's faced pressure on the road and help mount comeback wins.  It's a lot better than most shell-shocked rookie QBs.

With all that being said.  I doubt he'll ever be great.  But he'll be a lot better than Sanchez.

Man how awesome would it be to get Gonzo in purple?

Logistics such as the salary cap and the amount of picks Atlanta would make us give up (what with their experience in big trades and all) would make it damn near impossible, but that would make our offence nearly unstoppable. Especially once Pitta gets back.

Give the big guy a chance to play with a real QB before retiring. :D

Also, the Falcons board's back up. ED: Aaaaaand it's down again.

How many QBs say the wrong things?  The last glaring example of that was Derek Anderson who was a nobody.  Rex says enough of the wrong things for everyone on the Jets, and if Geno did say something dumb it would probably get washed away by whatever Rex said anyway.  Regardless, these kids have been taught how to tell the media nothing for many years now, it'd be weird if he wasn't able to do that.

Is the shell-shocked rookie really a thing anymore?  I hate comparing Geno to last year's class because he's nowhere near that level, but in the terrible Arians offense Andrew Luck was constantly taking shots down the field.  Not being afraid to throw it down the field or into tight windows is a good thing, assuming you can hit it, so I'm not arguing that.  I'm not sure he has a large enough sample size to say that for certain, and I think the performance expected from rookie QBs nowadays is much higher.

No disagreements on the last point, but if you're setting the bar at Sanchez that's not a high bar.
