Torrey Smith's 2013 season statistics

78 posts in this topic

I knew the TDs would come this year for Torrey. He's really improved.

54 catches, 952yds, 4TDs. He's getting closer to the 1000yd season he has been aiming for! Only 'curious' stat is that he has been targeted 105 times. He's completing just over 50% of his targets for one reason or another.

A lot of that is the type of throws he gets - we're not a dink-and-dunk high completion percentage team - we've been trying to develop it, but Joe and Torrey's bread-and-butter is still the deep pass.  Those aren't easy to complete regardless of who's throwing and catching.  You could think of it this way - if Torrey and, say Brandon Marshall, were each targeted 100 times, Torrey catches 50 of those for 1000 yards, Marshall catches all 100 for 1000 yards, who ultimately had the better season?  Because it seems to me they are even - Torrey catches deeper passes, so he'll always be low on the targets-receptions ratio.

Well, he still runs a lot of deep routes...they are lower percentage by nature.

I would say Brandon. He'd be extending a lot more drives, giving the whole offense more chances to put points up.

Torrey is good but he can't seem to come down with passes that are contested. He's better at fighting for position on his deep routes but he can't seem to win position on catches facing the QB (comebacks, back shoulder, underthrows). He had two of them this game against Ike Taylor and they both were catchable but neither of them caught.

he's made those catches before, but he's not great at them.  He's a really fantastic player though.

He was decent.

He'll be kicking himself for that probably.

I've seen him make those kind of catches. Meh needs to get better at those

The other thing about Torrey is he makes life easier for everyone else.  He draws coverage deeper, opens the middle of the field.  He really helped pitta and Boldin in the AFC championship game and the Super bowl.  Torrey was our 1 despite what statistics show even then.

He's going to be the first drafted WR by the Ravens to ever break 1000 yards receiving (caveat playing for the Ravens).

That's great and sad at the same time lol.

Torrey's been great this year. And I agree,, we used to have Boldin or Pitta to take all the space underneath. Not so much now. Especially since JJ is pretty much the same player as well, and Doss and Brown not getting the snaps or even the experience or nous to take on the Pitta/Boldin roles.

When we do, we'll gel a lot better on offence.

I think we impose a Voldemort-like ban on that name forever... "He who shall not be named..."

Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself.

Damn I'm a nerd. :P

I love Torrey and think he's a solid number 1. Now if he can get better at catching the ball, he can become a great number 1.

Torrey Smith's statistics for the first 12 games:

CATCHES: 54

YARDS: 952

AVG. YARDS PER CATCH: 17.6

TOUCHDOWNS: 4

LONGEST CATCH: 74 yards

*These are probably the most relevant statistics. ...Some other ones could be debatable.

I like Torrey a lot, but the last couple of games he was KILLED us with drops in key situations.  I appreciate that he mans up like he did last week, but man, he was not good today.  I still believe in him, but he has room to grow for sure.

He still looks like a #2 WR out there, when he's dropping crucial passes. He should be the save go-to guy for Flacco, whenever Joe needs to convert on 3rd down or score a TD, he should be able to count on Torrey and that's just not happening.
