The O's have taken another step back this offseason which means we could be in for another long regular season... hope I'm wrong of course, but we've done NOTHING to improve the team.

When you're right, you're right! Is this the price we have to pay for a glimpse of the way it used to be? I was there, it was great, and now it's gone. Sad, sad indeed.

Davis got paid! Matt's up next. So his avg. is a little low and sure you would like to see his power numbers up a tad, but the man can handle pitchers. He manages the game as good as anyone and considering who the O's trot out to the hill it can't be easy. Would like to root for a team with 9 left fielders? I do, like it or not! No band wagons need apply!

All the players who filed for arbitration are signed except Wieters, and they're in negotiations with him. Looks like the Os opened the checkbook at last.

We should try to lock up Crush now. He'll probably make around 20 mill a year after arbitration. I'm surprised it's only 10 million.... Doubt we do so though.

Of course the Yankees land Tanaka, if only our owner would spend some money! I hate that we are in the division with all the big spending owners. It makes it so hard to compete when your constantly playing teams that buy all the greatest players from anywhere in the world.

We can only hope that he will be a bust....24-0 last year in Japan is one thing but he has not thrown one pitch in MLB and a lot of the parks here are smaller.

I wonder what the numbers are. With only this year in sure the Yankees have paid more for FA's then we have in the last 5, 10 or 15 lol. At least it feels that way.

To me... the line in the sand has been drawn by Pete... and I cant say I blame him. Theres ZERO point in spending money on overpriced FA's...when from the get go, we've squandered high draft picks ( with few exceptions) year after year.. Basically, Angelos wants to build from the draft and the O's havent been able to do it... Actually produce some quality pitching, and some infielders and maybe you wont have to spend megabucks on FA's and then you have control of them for 4-6  years. Its a disgrace, the ineptitude we've shown in the draft.

Honestly what does he really do with all that money? I mean c'mon!

Those Asbestos lawsuit adds don't pay for themselves.

I agree 100%. But It's also a disgrace how little we spend. Especially this offseason where we're missing a few pieces. I don't think FA would address those glaring holes but it would certainly help while giving fans confidence that the organization wants to win now. Also the small window might be closing with key players contracts coming to an end in the near time future. Not sure Peter would pony up the money needed to retain Davis or Wieters. Wieters will probably get over paid though and I'll be fine with not overpaying him.

If all these little moves work it would be the greatest story ever. I'll be shocked if we make the playoffs but I'll remain optimistic.

But knowing we have Manny Machado makes me smile. Hopefully he's recovering well.

If PA doesn't sign him years down the line, that may he the final straw for me.

I personally don't think Weiters is a key contract or a player we MUST retain. I'd trade him RIGHT NOW if possible. Unless he blows up and actually becomes a hitter this year, we can duplicate his plate production.

There is another catcher in the system similar to Wieters who is getting a lot of looks....I think his name is Michael Ohlman..

Sometimes I wish athletes would really control their agents who work FOR them... Jered Weaver told Boras to get a deal done before he hit FA, and he did it and everyone was happy. I wish Wieters/Davis would do the same.

Completely different though when comparing the Angels and O's.

Some reason you posted a link to a 2 year old article? Want to let us in on that?

Probably just because it's funny and it's related to the Orioles......... Could be wrong though!

I was surfing The Onion and I saw it and just posted it. I hope we do win 5 more games this year than last year.

Buried in Roch's thousands of tweets:

@masnRoch: #orioles settle with Matt Wieters, per @JonHeymanCBS . $7.7 million, plus incentives

Looks like the O's aren't going to get Burnett after all of this (per @masnroch and others)... apparently we're still "in" on Arroyo, Jiminez, and Yoon. I'll believe it when I see it.

Does anyone really want to be an Oriole anymore? Oh the humanity! Still love my O's, just hate the owner! E.B.W. I miss those days on 33rd street.
