Baltimore Orioles: 2013-2014 Off-Season Discussion

Does Balfour have a legitimate claim to file a grievance against the O's?  I mean I don't believe the O's evaluation of them, but at least in the NFL team doctors and individual doctors disagree on people all the time.

Still dreaming of the day Bisciotti buys the O's.

I know nothing about baseball in terms of evaluations, but I would still do better than your owner lol

I beleive he has already said he has no intentions of ever owning the Orioles

The only good thing about Peter Angelos is that he has not tried to move the team to another city, thank God!

He wouldn't make it out of baltimore.

I don't even want to think about the O's tbh. It's just crazy how fast this season flew by.

What the hell did the O's even do this winter?

Wow just got back from Pittsburgh last night after being up at the in-laws since Christmas Day, so I did not hear about Paul Blair as I had no computer access. I am so depressed. I got a baseball signed by him at the Shorebirds game this summer. What a great guy. I told him that I remembered when he beat Al Bumbry in that race they had around the bags, he got a big kick out of that. He will be missed. Rest in peace my good man.

R.I.P. Paul Blair. It was a true pleasure to watch you play. So many good memories and the glory days of the O's. A true class act on and off the field. #6 forever!

I was talking baseball with a friend of mine who told me one thing. "This year after your Orioles win the World Series remember one thing. Turn off your Playstation." Thanks Tom, if only he wasn't right, sigh!

That's terrible. Even if we win the world series we need a lot more to catch up :(

Are we even going to try and sign a closer or are we just going to be a complete embarrassment this season. Seriously, it is not funny anymore. Sign someone already!

Another day another, well, nothing! Pete hello, if you need another hack sign me. I can't play a lick at 54, but at least I fit your pay scale. Need to close a game? Not me, and I'm cheap and can give up runs like, well, insert your own joke here.

Too bad, Pete Rose seems like the worse thing that ever happened to the game, really? Nice to see Raffy is off the ballot, hope A-Rod never get's on it! Old school, nobody, "The Babe" would have got kicked out for a beer gut, party on O's, Alexi? Ah, no!!

It is a shame that the Ravens season is over and I can hear the crickets chirping on this board. I think we are all just too depressed knowing what this season is going to bring to even bother with making a post. Maybe we can still pick up some players so we won't be out of the running before the All-Star break. Still holding onto a super small glimmer of hope. Please God grant me a miracle, isn't there any Orioles magic around anywhere that we might be able to find?

Hey before the start of last season many "experts" had the Redsox finishing 4th or 5th in our division and look how that turned out.

It's hard to be an optimistic orioles fan but it's funner than being real or pessimistic lol.

6 Orioles file for arbitration:

Slugger Chris Davis was among six Orioles players who filed for salary arbitration on Tuesday night, the first step toward settling on contracts for 2014.

Catcher Matt Wieters and pitchers Tommy Hunter, Brian Matusz, Bud Norris and Troy Patton also filed, joining 140 other players from across the Major Leagues who are under team control, with less than six years of service time. The O's will exchange proposed salary figures with each player on Friday, and contract negotiations then can continue until a hearing. Those are scheduled between Feb. 1-21, although in most cases, the two sides settle on a deal -- in some cases even a multiyear agreement -- before then.

In the event of a hearing, both parties present their case to a three-member panel of judges that weighs the arguments and chooses one of the two proposed salaries. Decisions are based on previous salaries awarded to players of similar service time and performance.

Davis, Hunter, Norris and Wieters all are set to become free agents after the 2015 season and currently are in their second of three arbitration years. Each figures to receive a raise, especially Davis, who led the Majors with 53 home runs and 138 RBIs last year while making $3.3 million.

Matusz and Patton also likely are in for a small salary boost as they enter their first year of arbitration.

Got Norris in the fold, Manny's rehab is said to be ahead of schedule and again another day and , ah, well, ah?? If the O's don't do anything else it's safe to say that right now we lead the majors in left field/ DH players more  than any team in recent history. We are not gonna need a closer (see A's sign Johnson to 1 year deal) if we don't have the lead. Even "Crush" is on record as saying we need another starter. I guess the best news is at least the weather will be warmer. Sure do miss Edward Bennett Williams! ( Old dude reference here.) Still my my O's even if, well....!
