Baltimore Orioles: 2013-2014 Off-Season Discussion

440 posts in this topic

damnit, well looks like I may as well not even bother with the A's next year they have made some awful trades and acquisitions this off season including the horrendous jim johnson and over paying for scott kazmir who only just got back into his groove. Colon and Balfour are probably going too, amazing the first time billy beane wants to spend money he spends it on the wrong players and over pays, also seth smith is gone.

Choo would be nice. :)

God, I remember when we played a series with the Indians a year or so ago and he absolutely destroyed us.

Yup, me too. Dudes a beast and one of the best leadoff hitters in the game. With McLouth probably not coming back and the need for a leadoff hitter (or Brian Roberts) that would probably be the best move for us offensively.

Won't happen though. PA can take away our hope, but not our speculation!!

As long as the O's sign a legit FA with the money they freed up, I don't mind trading Johnson for a prospect. Weeks is still young so maybe a change of scenery can help him or motivate him. Wouldn't be the first time.

This was a salary dump plain and simple. I'd like to think Duquette and Buck will use that money to go get a bat that we need. I've heard some rumors about Nelson Cruz that sounds legit. He would be a nice addition to the lineup.

Any way you slice it paying JJ 10M was bad business, especially on a team with a tight budget. Getting something for him is better than letting him walk I suppose.

I dont mind the move at all. We arent a closer away from the Series... So, that 10 million COULD be better spent, elsewhere on the roster. Will it be spent on a single high quality player? Probably not.. Sounds more like we'll feature some more platoon guys that need to have bounce-back years. Angelos is very annoying.. Theres NOTHING stoping this team from spending REAL money on the roster... BUT the current system hasnt been fixed, so I can see why hes reluctant. We still cant draft pitchers well... top notch pitching prospects STILL arent getting developed and we're pretty empty on the farm for quality infielders.

McClouth signing with stupid Nats. Sadface.

I'm gonna miss him. He deserves that security though. I think I read 4-5 years 50 mill. I could be wrong though

I read 2 years 12M. Not sure why the O's couldn't pony up for that...

Sorry to crush the hopes of snagging Beltran, but he just signed with the Yankees for $45 million over 3 years.

Well I'm not surprised, but there were rumors of the O's being interested.

I read they signed 4 players for a grand total of $299M. Yet the O's are worried about saving money? Someone needs to tell Peter there is no salary cap in Baseball and to stop being cheap.

We are supposedly interested in a number of people. But I'm not getting my hopes up for any of them. According to a lot of analysts on twitter a few names on the list are: Bartolo Colon, Nelson Cruz, Johan Santana, Gavin Floyd, Jason Hammel, and Logan Morrison.

Floyd and Santana would be incentive-laden deals if that were to even happen at all.

We have the money to sign Choo, Cruz, a closer, AND a starter. Our problem is that we have an owner who wants to pocket all of the money from MASN and MLB (via TV revenue sharing). It's so pathetic, but it's something O's fans have been dealing with year after year.

You at least offered Balfour a contract......He'd be a temporary upgrade over Johnson and is a hell of a closer in his own right..

Seriously?
