QB Mike Glennon named Tampa Bay starter, QB Josh Freeman released

It's official. Freeman wants OUT. The Bucs are open to trade offers.

Well, considering Sanchez, Weeden and Tebow are also all presumably available with starter experience (Tebow, though the worst football player of these, could put the most butts in the seats), I don't see many takers for Freeman barring an injury in the next week or two.

I still think a trade of Freeman for Sanchez, both with the understanding that they were being brought in as the backup, would be the right move for both teams, both players and both rookie starting QBs. I'm just saying.

Nobody wants Freeman with his current contract number.

Nobody wants Freeman with his current contract number.

And nobody wants Sanchez with his current number. So its a perfect swapping situation. Each team eats the deal it made and both starts fresh with a different guy.

How'd he do?

I don't remember anything spectacular. It was the first preseason game. The only thing that stuck out in my mind was how good our new look D was and Joe's bad interception to Danny Gorrer.

It's about time.  This was certainly one of the worst handled situations I've seen in a while.

I feel bad for Revis.  He thought he was leaving the circus when he got off of the Jets.

Just because Glennon is about the same size as Flacco doesn't mean the comparison is valid.  Flacco is an elite arm talent, Glennon isn't anywhere close to him in arm strength and ability.  Not saying he can't be a good QB, but the comparison is as valid as someone comparing Geno Smith to RGIII.

But they're the same size!

Steelers should sign freeman

I agree with this. With that horrible O-Line in Crapsburgh, who knows how long Rapistburger will last?? They need a serviceable backup who can fill in and help out when called on.

Glennon reminds me of Matt Ryan.

He lacks Ryans' awareness.  Ryan is not an elite arm, but he understands the game and generally has a decent understanding of where the ball should go.  Granted, he's effective because of his elite weapons, which are bested only by Peyton Manning's, but he's probably the best QB who isn't an elite arm talent in the league.  Matt Ryan is what a high achieving game manager looks like, but that doesn't mean he's a bad QB.
