QB Mike Glennon named Tampa Bay starter, QB Josh Freeman released

The rift is getting deeper between Schiano and Freeman. Mike Glennon will start for the Bucs in their matchup this Sunday against the Cards.

Hey guys, remember when Freeman was ranked higher than Joe in the Top100 Players countdown? My how times have changed :D

For the first time in a long time I cannot wait to get to work today!

There's one clown there who constantly compares Freeman to Flacco saying he's just as good.

I believe you won't be able to find him or if you manage to find him, he will tell you he just has an amnesia.....

Schiano is really winging it now.  It seems like he's lost the locker room, and now he's putting in a completely unproven QB.  I think his job status is in serious jeopardy, and it should be.

He lost me when he told his players to go hard on victory formations

At first I didn't pass too much judgement on that, but after hearing some report about how he threatened to fire a coach during practice and how he may have rigged the captain vote, now I think he's crazy.

I'm more worried about it affecting VJs stock.  Hopefully not much.

We all remember Shorts and Blackmon lighting it up last season.  WRs are the anchors of unstable offenses.

The more I think about it, I think a straight up trade of Josh Freeman for Mark Sanchez (with both teams eating the contract amounts they bargained for this year) would work out for both teams. Change of location would benefit both players. Surprised this hasn't been talked up.

Except both team have young QBs they just drafted that I'm sure they'd much rather roll with than some flame out from another squad.

It's still better to have a new veteran in a new setting as your back-up than the guy who is still claiming he actually won the preseason QB competition like Sanchez, or feels he's been unfairly demoted like Freeman. It's better for these rookie QBs not to have to face the guys whose jobs they stole daily.

its a shame Tampa has so much talent on that squad and its such a waste.

They've actually spent a considerable amount of money these past few years. It's pretty shameful that they have nothing to show for it.

While Freeman hasn't taken big steps forward, I'm not sure how much this can be put on him. It was just a couple of years ago when everyone felt that Freeman, Mike Williams, and Legaratte Blount, a group that won 10 games together, was the kind of threesome you could build around (with commentators saying they had very much an Aikman,Irvin,Sanders feel). I don't quite understand how they got from there to here by adding another strong WR, upgrading at RB and adding a premier corner, but somehow they managed it. This is a great example of a team that seemingly did nothing but make upgrades to their team and in just a couple of years seems to be back at ground zero. I don't get it. But I doubt it was all Freeman..

At least for Glennon, Tampa plays Arizona which means he could be able to pull off the win, which I think happens. Glennon will surprise some people.

So you're saying as backups?  Okay, then I can get on board with that being beneficial from the teams' perspectives.  I know those QBs that feel like they had their jobs stolen would rather get a chance to actually play for another team, but I do agree the Jets' and Bucs' respective locker rooms might be a bit improved with that trade.

It actually has everything to do with the quarterback. Freeman hasn't panned out which has resulted in a fledgling Bucs team with much better talent than their record implies. It just goes to show that finding a franchise quarterback, with staying power, is vital to any team. That's why I get so frustrated with people who bash Flacco. We're extremely lucky to have him.

The other side of the story that's out there though is one similar to Flacco under Cam Cameron, where the QB is marginalized and not allowed to make any calls or best use his abilities.

Flacco still won games. Freeman is still making rookie type mistakes several years later. The system might suck but it doesn't excuse him from making bad decisions.

Well I didn't ever say Freeman was as good as Flacco -- he's not. (Although I suspect he's better than Gabbert and some of the others being allowed to play currently). I just suggested he wasn't being allowed to be as good as he was that one year they got to 10 wins.
