The cone of silence?

83 posts in this topic

For two days now I have swooped upon the networks, I wanted  to see what the "experts" that dismissed the Ravens and heaped huge glasses of Texan cool-aid everywhere had to say..........

and I have heard ..... only silence, Not one time in two days have the Total Access people or the NFL AM show said anything, I mean ANYTHING about the game or our  D's punch to Houston's nose.

It's as if the game never happened. They did quote Ray Lewis out of context to imply the Ravens had a vacuum of leadership.....that's not what he said BTW.

Had the score been reversed, they would have had entire shows dedicated to Watts, Schaub and Cushing.

Somehow NFL network, CBS, SI, NBC, Fox,. and ESPN......I don't feel the love.......

How about giving some respect to the Ravens!

GO RAVENS!

I noticed this too. A quality defensive win and nothing. Only highlights then they keep it moving. They demolished us last time and non stop talk about how ineffective Flacco was. No mention Flacco barely has weapons, guys drop passes, Rice is injured and all we hear about is Brady making it work with a new cast. Its cool. This team could easily be 4-1 going into the GB game with key parts coming back. I would rather silently stack up wins and get healthy come post season.

It was like that last year when we started 9-2.  The most talked about game during that start was the time Houston beat up on us.  Then, as soon as we hit a rough patch it was all about how we were doomed to fail.  So as far as I'm concerned, I prefer the silence.  Let them talk more about the Jets and Giants.

Lol it happens every season.. You should be used it by now. The only time we get attention is when we've suffered either a loss on paper or a loss on our roster. It comes with being a fan. Although it does suck, but as long as we continue to win games I'll be more than fine with that.

The only time media swoops in is when they want to create dramas.   But that could be said w/ a lot of 'old' winning teams that stays winning.

There is no hype around praising team that has been good for so long.   Media wants the flash in the pans every year.   Seahawks/Broncos...you know the drill.

Then next year it'll be some other team media hypes up, only to bring them down to extend the drama.    Just how business works.

im not suprised , did u c last year, when we beat the big dogs in their own stadiums they still picked against us. we're like the step child always ignored no matter how good we're, but hey look at the bright side, we're flying under the radar , i hope they think of us like that until we repeat.

Wins are the only validation I need, not too fussed what the media think. Workmanlike teams that are a greater sum of their parts are never the media darlings, I'll take the Lombardi over flashy headlines any day.

Do you really want them talking about us? The only time they do talk about us is to talk about our problems and their concerns of our team (both real and imaginery problems).

where is the "balance" though Fly?

I've noticed the same thing as the OP and unlike others here, I want to see and hear about the Ravens due to my living outside of Baltimore and especially, after they have destroyed the talking heads picks.  very rarely do they come back and give the Ravens their props and if they do say something, it is peppered in with statements to discredit and discount their win.  when the broncos embarrassed the Ravens...that's all you heard and saw on tv.  now that the Ravens spanked the Texans...we hear very little to nothing!  not even a replay on nflnetwork yet!  lol!

To be honest our fan base isn't big enough to get big time national attention. We haven't been around very long. We have very loyal fans but I mean the media wants to create stories that a lot of people would want to view. Teams like the 49ers and the Giants get a lot of attention because they're in a bigger market. It's no reason for us to complain it is what it is. Were growing though. I think the funniest article I read today was the texans being ranked in front of us in the power polls. It's ok though everyone will see.

I'd like to believe that, but it doesn't reflect reality.
Examples:

Indianapolis -- been around for 29 years, and same size market as us.
Cincinnati -- been around awhile, but smaller market
Seattle -- been around awhile, same size market
New Orleans -- been around awhile, smaller market
Atlanta -- same size market

All those teams are gushed over every single day...market size be damned

To make it even worse, we are the defending champs. We should know the texture, aroma, coloration and expulsion rate of every bowel movement that each member of the team has...is what it is man...

Whoa! TMI

I'm not sure of the reason for the snub and I guess on some level it bothers me. But hey, we keep winning we'll be the only Team left to talk about.

Kind of funny that Sweet Pea got more coverage than our win over the texans.

I saw him on the MNF pre game and that is exactly what he said. In fact, he said the void was created by him and Ed leaving.

I am in the " I don't care camp"

Yeah, it would be great to see them eat crow but it amounts to nothing.
Winning is good enough for me.

I have to admit that it is a little disturbing to have NFL AM skip over our game. I had the show on for quite a while Monday and TWICE our game was listed on the sidebar as next up and both times they skipped over it. I try not to get upset by this stuff, but that was downright insulting.

First it's: "What's with the negative press?" Then it's: "Why aren't they paying any attention?"

I swear there's no pleasing some people.

Seems that you are missing the point.

The only words mentioned about the Ravens are negative, while there is constant positive talk about other teams, even ones that haven't won a game.  I really don't care, but it is curious that the defending SB Champions are invisible unless Sweet Pea is clunking one of them on the head.

I noticed the same thing it doesn't bother me so much .  I am curious to see what happens if we string several more weeks of giving up no touchdowns if that gets any media attention.

Well I could be fashionable and say: I don't care what anybody says because I am a winner! However, I would be lying and a hypocrite if admit it doesn't bother me to the bones. I am disgusted by the lack of positive coverage. We get coverage only when it is time to pile on or when there is no reason to, we get silence.

I hate it and I don't need to accept it! I am a fan of the Baltimore Ravens and I like praise once in a while like most humans.

I couldn't give  a crap if they respect us or not. They are a bunch of talking heads.

I will never understand why a lot of you yearn for national attention from a group of guys in suits who are full of it. Why you care about someones opinion that much is laughable. They haven't picked a super bowl champion correctly in pre season in forever! They aren't experts, they can swing any story any way.

That being said, turn on the radio or read articles on the internet. Our defense is getting a lot of praise. But as much praise as that will get, be prepared to hear the negative about one of the league's worst offenses which I'm sure you all will be complaining about too....

It's week 3. We have a long way to go.

Well over here there has been only 2 Ravens stories in the media

Story 1: Torrey Smith against NE after his brothers death

Story 2: Ravens Superbowl win

100% positive Raven coverage over here, a relocation to Sydney Australia would probably fix most of your media problems. Get onboard!

The silence continues. I have not been able to find any of the major football sites a single word on if and what the amount was for Mercilus hit on Joe. Did he even get fined? If it had been a hit on Payton or Brady or Aaron they would all be covering it.

i have to lol"  and I agree!  I never bought into the "we haven't been in the league long enough yet" spill.  it's been nearly 20 years now...that's 2 decades that the Ravens have been rolling in this league so that can't be the reasoning imo.

To make it even worse, we are the defending champs. We should know the texture, aroma, coloration and expulsion rate of every bowel movement that each member of the team has...is what it is man...

exactly!  and you'd think that the Ravens would dominate the majority of the headlines (in a positive way) in the eyes of the media but that doesn't happen until the Ravens are being skull-dragged by another team or some idiotic event takes place and a receiver gets hit over the head with a bottle by a stripper and then Ray Lewis' comments about the said event are blown waaaaaay out of proportion and constantly scrolls across the bottom of the screen on the sports channels.  in my Florida Evans ("Good Times") voice when she found ought that James was killed; damn!  damn!  damn!  lol!

Lol, I have no relation with baltimore, and often wonder why does so many people including media hate the Ravens. Only thing I can think of is the organization having so much success early on, and over the years and that's the cause of all these haters.

This!! All attention is not good attention. Prime example, look at all the attention the Steelers
are getting for being 0-3. While I get it would be nice to be mentioned quite regularly after a big win, with that comes the criticism if the Ravens lose. I'd prefer not to be in the media until it's time to defend the title. Trust me, if the defense keeps playing like they have the past 2 games, there
will be a lot of attention made about how the Def is better than last year.

Fines usually come out on Thursday. Not always, but most of the time.

Ironically, I'm willing to bet most of you didn't turn on the NFL Network, ESPN or any other NFL football show the day after we got smacked by the Broncos. I know I didn't listen to anything or watch anything NFL related until it was time for the 1st game to start that Sunday.
