AFC North standings after Week 3

93 posts in this topic

Guys, guys. C'mon guys. Let's be honest. Way deep, DEEP down inside, if you HAD to bet $1000 on either the Bengals or Browns winning the game, you'd pick the Bengals because that makes sense - and because you'll be $1000 richer after that game. Like it or not, the Bengals will then be 2-0 in the AFC and still #1 in the North. IMHO, the Ravens need to the Packers AND the Bengals to take their rightful place at the top of the AFC North -- that'l probably be a hard thing to do this year. P.S. Congrats on picking up Miles and the Texans beat-down - verrry impressive. Best of luck against the Bills. :) Can't wait for Week 10.

I agree except for the 1000.00 richer part.  The payout spread would be something like -270 so if you would bet a 1000.00 , you make maybe 700.  Just thinking of the spread, it would be -3 points Bengals atleast.

The payout would be alot more if you did take the BROWNS , especially a straight up bet without taking the Points.

Would we rather have PIT or CLE end up last in the division?  I'm thinking PIT should end up in 3rd for us, because they're WAY better at drafting than CLE.

I am cool with that logic. It makes good football sense. As long as we were AFC North Champs, Cincy could fall to the bottom. It would be funny since everyone has them winning the division outside our fanbase.

Good point, but I was actually referring to a straight-up bet, no points.

In addition to what the prior poster mentioned, Rodgers had an uncharacteristically bad game and was forced to try and make throws because their running game was awful. So I would agree Dalton doing better than him might not be that much of an accomplishment. You want your QB to do well objectively, not compared to someone who does poorly. Its hard to accomplish much if your basis is that you don't stink as bad as the next guy. Then again Flacco was wildly inconsistent in his third year. We shall see.

Rodgers had a bad day (1 TD pass and 2 INT) because Bengals-D had a pretty good day, imho. Packers O-line got beat up in that game too - Finley out with a concussion, Matthews out with a hamstring and rookie Franklin out with a leg injury. Still, Dalton threw 2 TD passes and only 1 INT - not too bad for a third year QB facing this Packer team. Not too bad at all.

Considering Green Bay has had one of the worst pass defenses so far this year I'm not so sure that is much of an accomplishment.

A win is an accomplishment, no matter how it comes. I've played this game. I know. Bengals inflicted damage to the Packers O-line - Finley out with a concussion, Matthews out with a hamstring and rookie Franklin out with a leg injury. I'm not happy that these players got hurt, but if ANY team thinks they've got the best passer and O-line in the NFL, they should know that this could change during the course of a single game - just like it did with the Packers. Bengals are deep and dangerous this year. Write that down.

So the Bengals defense doesn't get credit for making Rodgers struggle? Also, the Packers had 182 yards rushing that day. I don't know, maybe that qualifies as awful to you.

The Bengals defense does. Dalton doesn't.

Okie-dokie - I don't think you'll get to a comfortable retirement betting like that.

My retirement takes care of us very well, thank you for inquiring..If you dont think that was a fluke win vs Green Bay, well then you are a bigger homer then I.I dont even need the 4 point gift from the Vegas Gods, I feel the Brownies will flat out win the game.

CIN is still a WAY better team than CLE.  Hoyer threw 3 picks against MIN, of all secondaries.

We'll see, Cleveland has been in every ballgame, They are not rolling over because its the big bad Bengals...The game is in Cleveland, Dalton shows me nothing, he reminds me of Kyle boller

CLE has nothing to lose, which works in their favor.  Hoyer could try to overcompensate to secure his job, which could backfire against a secondary with the likes of Hall.

Cleveland has a halfway decent defense and a lot of the cornerstone pieces of the puzzle on offense, but frankly, until they fix their offensive line, they aren't going to beat good football teams, even if Hoyer shows he's the real deal and McGahee still has something in the tank. I expect them to beat up on the bad teams but not really make an impact on the rest.

I'm not too worried about Dalton. Two TD passes for Dalton versus one TD pass for Rodgers to finish beating the best of the NFC Packers is impressive. I think it's fair to say that the Bengals are fairly deep and dangerous this year.

I think the Packers could've won it if they had another 15 minutes.  Unfortunately for the Packers, they ran out of quarters, ran out of running backs, their O-line sustained damage at the hands of the Cincy-D and ultimately they ran out of luck. Browns could beat the Bengal's weakened secondary, but odds are that won't be enough to beat everything else the Bengals put onto the field.

Both Cincinatti and Ravens are playing games that look deceptively easy this weekend.  The Browns are far more talented defensively than offensively, so if you are saying they might beat your secondary (ie on offense), you might be in for a long day.

Observation skills might need a little work. Were you giving advice to Coughlin's Giants last week?

As a 35-year Bengals fan, I prepare myself for a long day every game. Hey, you may be right, the Browns could win it. In my opinion, the Bengals should've beaten the Bears is Game 1 too. That didn't happen. I'll be looking to see if this new Bengals matrix improves (like fewer penalties and fumbles) and continues to do things it does well. We shall see.

I'm more interested in watching how the Ravens are gonna deal with the Bills without Ray Rice. Last I heard, the hip injury he sustained in the Texans game may keep him out of the Bills game. His status is questionable, right?

I think the Browns D will cause havoc for the Bengals offense. They are playing with a chip on their shoulder and with nothing to lose. They are also playing with momentum from last weeks win and it's a home game for them.

Rice is questionable, but practiced, so sounds like it depends how he feels at noon tomorrow. Both he and Pierce were getting the same 2-3 yards per carry through three games so I'm not sure it really makes a big difference whether we have a banged up Rice or a healthy Pierce out there, on paper both are good options -- if the O-line opens holes we will move the football.

The Bills injury list on defense is quite lengthy, so I think its tough to make many predictions until we see who actually suits up for the game. On paper I like the match-up for the Ravens.

Although not in the Ravens interest, I kind of hope the Bengals do beat the Browns because frankly with Pittsburgh not even looking like a 7 win team this year, the Bengals are the only hope of an exciting division race.

I wholeheartedly agree with your point about an exciting division race. On another note, I wish Ray Rice well and a speedy recovery. He's an artist and a lot of fun to watch. I sincerely hope the Ravens pound the Bills and come out on top, just like they did at home with the Texans. Rock on, Ravens. P.S. I was an AFC and Ravens fan watching SB47 last year.

Dalton looks to be turning the corner in terms of winning big games this year. However, comparing him to Rodgers is not exactly fair. They were on the same field, but your defense is much, much tougher than GB's.

I think we can agree that Rodgers is an elite QB and Dalton is not. Still, Dalton got the Bengals downfield on several scoring drives, including twice with TD passes into the end zone against THE team many so-called pundits feel is the best in the NFC. At the end of the day, everyone should ask - can the Bengals do this against another elite team? We won't wait long - Game 5 next week against the - Patriots.

P.S. For the Ravens, it'll be a tenderized Packers team in Game 6.

Yes, but some of those same pundits said the Steelers would win the AFC North this season................. just saying.

I'm just saying I think we would both favor the Bengals defense if they were facing Dalton.  Like I said, it looks good for Dalton to be on his way to leading a team to big wins.  Last year, the clincher against Pitt was big.  This year, he's already beat Pitt and GB.  Before that, he made his living winning every game against lousy teams, while falling short against quality competition.  That is very similar to what our QB used to do at the beginning of his career, though he had more success in the playoffs.  I hope for your sake that things don't get to the point it has for us where winning the big games becomes the norm, but you end up getting surprisingly stung in by the bottom-feeders from time to time.

I liked the Pitt win last year for how it ended in their house. One thing with Cincy is staying power - twice to the playoffs and then 1 and out.  Hopefully this year it'll be different.
