Interesting - Baltimore Rated 2nd in Pressure Statistics

32.8 pressure points...that looks good compared to the other teams numbers. Jones has really stepped it up. He was from my hometown!

im going to be honest, our D is going to have to utterly dominate. put the texans in bad field position and such as i dont trustour offense making long drives.

looking good. btw watching coaches film art jones looked pretty possessed. i think hes goin to have a big sack year.

Ya he is, if not sacks he's going to start destroying some teams gameplans in the interior with Ngata and Canty.  It's unfortunate because we're likely to lose him and he's a guy we NEED to keep in the worst way to keep the front formidable.  Otherwise its an aging Ngata and a young D2 or 1-AA guy in Williams left.

To this point...Ngata has a $16 mill number for his contract year (all non guaranteed, correct me if I'm wrong). Do we cut him or try to restructure to sign Art?

It's unfortunate that Pitta got injured, but his next contract will probably be a lot smaller now helping us to save money.

Back on topic...our line will only continue to improve. I noticed a couple plays vs the Browns where McPhee was lined up at DT in obvious 3rd and long spots. Pretty sure it was after Canty left the game too.

Ngata can't be cut, not that he should be, but it would be a 15M cap hit next year. He was given 35M in bonuses.

Yowzers, better restructure and extend then!

Problem is Ngata in recent years has talked like a man willing to retire at 32, 33 instead of 35 like most premier DT/NTs.  Don't want to be paying a guy who's not even in the league anymore.

Honestly my first impression was confusion about how we can have essentially the best pass rush in the league and have zero interceptions... Then I remembered our guys on defense have had plenty of chances to pick the ball off but have had just as much of the dropsies as the receivers on offense! Hopefully these guys on both sides of the ball start catching everything that come there way, and soon.

I was stunned too (once I figured out what they were talking about)I had no idea we were number two in the league . Thanks op for the link .

I don't see how we're going to be able to retain Art Jones, he's going to get bigger contract offers than Kruger.

Cut Suggs. Just being honest. Look at that cap hit...

Why would you want to cut one of our best players and a guy who has been credited as a big leader recently? That would send a horrible message. I think Suggs is more likely to be extended at this point to reduce his cap hit and keep him a Raven into retirement.

If I had the choice of keeping Art Jones or Suggs, I would probably take Art. But yeah, a restructure would be the best plan. We are going to be in some cap trouble in 2014.

I love Arthur Jones as a player as well but as of this moment I would be shocked if we cut Suggs in favor of Jones. Shocked.

I think we will find a way to retain Jones. It's clear to me that after this past offseason, Ozzie still knows that the game is won in the trenches. Look at all the DL depth we picked up. Ozzie knows that good dlines win football games, and he will find a way to either keep Jones. If not, I guarantee we will draft a DT high next year.

At least I hope so because Art Jones is just a flat out beast.

Yeah. I think we have a chance if we're creative and make some cuts. We could cut a few guys with small deals to make the differences, guys like Leach 1.75M, Spears 950k, Huff 750k, McClain 2.2M and even McKinnie 3M or possibly Koch 1M if we manage to draft a replacement or if his replacement is already here. I think it depends greatly on how guys play this year. I see Suggs getting a restructure-extension.

Based off of those potential cuts we could save 8.650M. Granted we'll be losing some decent players again this year and we'll probably spend money to get some guys back cheap and we may throw out some tenders for our 2011 UDFAs because they'll be RFAs. I think it's very doable in terms of the cap. We just have to consider our 2011 class and paying those guys. Pitta shouldn't cost a lot since he's coming off of an injury. We'll have to see how he does coming off of it.

Those figures are based off of Spotrac.com. I tried to accelerate the signing bonus. I could be mistaken on some of those as they're just rough estimates. Lol. Don't need the police coming on me. I also included Koch because I heard something this year on him being a potential cut on another website so I threw him in there.

A lot also depends on Michael Oher. I know he's not popular but he's consistent in terms of health and Harbaugh seems to like him. I could see him back. I'm not sure at what rate as he is making like 4 or 5M this year right?

I'm on the Art bandwagon too, but there is no way I sacrifice a DPOY still in his prime to give an unproven commodity like Art a fat contract.

I noticed last year before the San Diego game where Art Jones broke out that the guy was just hustling on every pass rush, even though they weren't getting home.  I think he has the best motor on the team, it was only a matter of time before the sacks started coming.  He got low on some bull rushes against Cleveland and was driving o-linemen all over the place.

The team sack numbers should rival 2006 by the end of the year if the back end can buy some time.

Our D should be nasty good.  I hesitate to say the game in Denver was a fluke, but Peyton has had our number during the regular season before.  If you don't get the turn-overs against Manning, and you don't control the time of possession then that is what games look like against him.  I think that game taught the Ravens a lesson on conditioning, and I think the game plan was to wear out our D and that is exactly what happened.

But yeah Denver quite possibly was our toughest game of the season.  If we can keep the pressure on with our defense then the turn-overs are bound to come, especially if they EVER get the chance to play with a lead!!
