When does Flacco start playing like a top paid QB?

291 posts in this topic

Look.  Football has a salary cap.  You have to decide where to put your money, passing game, running game, front 7, secondary, special teams.  Flacco has never had an exceptional receiving corps or offensive line.  He has had a decent running game, good possession receivers, and strong defenses for the most part.  And you know what?  He has rarely turned the ball over, made big plays when we needed them, gone deep into the playoffs consistently, and won a Super Bowl.

What the heck else do you want?  Seriously, what on earth is it you people would like to see this man do?  Cure cancer?  World peace?  Invent hangover-less beer?

He'd still get criticized if he did all this.

People just love to hate on him

Week 4 edition

When will Joe start to earn his 20.1 AAV?

what will Joe have to do to satisfy you?

Because winning obviously is not enough for you.

I agree with Wally Williams this morning, Joe has been consistently average.

Joe has to pick up the pace and start playing in line with the payday he sought. Right now he isn't doing it.

On a related note...... the same faces or monikers that for eons have debated statistical analysis when it comes ranking players now attempt to move the goal posts because of Joe's poor statistical showings. As I've stated earlier in the thread you people are nothing if not a predictable bunch.

Oh don't worry, the Ravens Defense already did those things too

Since winning doesn't satisfy you, what does Joe have to do to "earn" his pay?

Since his amazing previous accomplishments mean nada to you.

Go watch the tape on 2012. He is one of the fastest players in the league, the most elusive, is very accurate, hardly turned the ball over last year, has a strong arm. He is naturally talented. Flacco has a hell of an arm as well but I think if you break down the whole kit and kaboodle, RG3 has more athletic talent.

Athletic talent =/= better at playing QB. Flacco is far superior in pretty every aspect of QBing except running around. They play very different styles, but Flacco is a much better QB at this point. RG3 still has room to get better though.

Last season the motto was that the Ravens would never win a SB with Flacco. That we would have multiple championships with Michael Vick.

Now that it's been debunked it's just onto contrived grumpiness? Since it's on right now: c'mon, man..

After the following personnel moves and injuries...

Boldin & D. Reed - traded

Pitta, Jacoby, Deonte, Mellette, Rice - injured & out (though Rice should return soon)

Dickson - injured but playing (horribly)

We're now down to 3 WRs (Torrey, Marlon, Stokely) and 1 TE (Clark) who've been productive as receivers (even with a lot of drops on both 3rd down & on TD passes).

Doss and Bajema are the only 2 reserves left (with Furstenburg on PS).

And we only have Pierce (who also got hurt in preseason) with Draughn as the backup.

We had to sign 4 guys at the last moment, literally picking them off the scrap heap (Shiancoe who was cut, Clark, Stokely, and Draughn)

We are severely thin at all of our skill positions and cannot afford to suffer any more injuries.

AND IT'S ONLY WEEK 3!

Running plays use up more clock then passing plays.

By running on 1st and 2nd down constantly, we use up more clock, thus reducing the number of offensive snaps, especially the passing ones.

The offensive gameplan these past 2 weeks is a reflection of that because by reducing the number of offensive snaps, we reduce the chance of suffering more injuries at those skill positions.

So, get used to this style where Joe mainly only throws on 3rd down, thus ends the game with around 25 - 30 attempts in a pseudo-game manager role because our coaches want it that way, as they really have no choice.

If we lose anymore of our skill players, we will not make the playoffs.

Joe Flacco

72/119 60.5% Completion

3TD/2INT

80.0 QB rating

Tom Brady

73/127 57.5% Completion

5TD/2INT

79.4QB rating

Yeah, Joe Flacco is playing nowhere near the level of Tom Brady this year.   After all, Brady has a running game and all these receivers and tight ends to throw to, just like Joe does.

Hey, let's check in on that phenom Colin Kaepernick, who was going to be unstoppable this year and take the NFL by storm and win the Super Bowl hands down.   After all, not only does he have Vernon Davis and Anquan Boldin, but Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham catching balls fo.........oh wait.

53/94 56.4% Completion

3TD/4INT

72.5QB Rating

You know who are doing well this year?    QB's that have people to throw the ball to.   Peyton, Ryan, Brees.   And even Drew Brees only has MARGINALLY better stats right now than Flacco and he has talent all around him.

This constant Joe Flacco bashing is really REALLY getting old.

Maybe a better question than the originator of this ridiculous topic would be which QB 's would you take over Joe . Not many on that list . Rodgers , Manning ( though he doesn't have much left ) . You see the problems Brady has without weapons so I'm not sure he's on the list . He is close to done . Don't even think about Matty Choke over Joe . So who do you put ? Rodgers , Manning , Brees .

You are reaching here......  I followed up my original post by stating the obvious.  When does Joe start earning what he asked for ?

With his numbers and not piggy backing off someone else's talent on defense or checkdowns....

And when did I ever say he wasn't? I said RG3 is naturally talented, never said it was a competition of who is the better qb.

How?

He isn't tackling, catching, punting, kicking, and blocking. Why am I even explaining this? If you really think Superbowls aren't a team victory, then I need to not waste my time any longer on you.

The answer's so obvious.

When he has someone other than Torrey as a consistent weapon.

Right now his other 3 main weapons of Marlon, Stokely and Clark are brand new to both the team and to Flacco, so he hasn't had the time that every QB needs to build a strong rapport with them.

Heck, Stokely and Clark still don't know the entire playbook yet, which is another reason for Caldwell going run, run, pass so often..

Sorry but none of your replies directly correlate to my questions or even my rebuttals. Fair enough, let's agree to disagree....... for what ever we are agreeing/disagreeing about. You have gotten me confused... smh

I don't even know if that is true. He doesnt have the QB talent that Joe has, he just runs faster. Sure, he's a better athlete, but that means little.
