You saw what the Browns got for Richardson - Ray Rice value?

31 posts in this topic

The Browns shockingly just traded Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a first round pick next year.

With how the Ravens are struggling offensively... you have to wonder what the Ravens could have got for a more proven but still young RB in Ray Rice.

Sure, he's a fan favorite.  And he's had good statistics.  But I think Pierce, and before him... McGahee, and while McGahee and Rice were BOTH here... Leron McClain... have all ran well behind the Ravens offensive line.

So if you want a chance at a "game breaking" receiver, or a tight end that can catch the ball, or whatever else it is you think the Ravens need.....  would you be willing to give up Ray Rice to get it?

I think RB is probably the easiest position to replace, and there is a surplus of talent that you don't really need those "name brand" guys.

The Ravens had a lead on the Broncos and didn't seem willing to stick to the run.  They couldn't really build a lead against the Browns to even try sticking to the run.  And the NFL rewards teams for passing the ball more anyway with current rules...  They might want to see what they can get for Rice now before it's too late and returning values diminish.

Is this like the 50,000 thread suggesting we trade one of our best playmakers? Why not see what we could get for Flacco AND Rice? A two for one deal.

I'm still surprised they traded Richardson. I guess they also believe Rainey is a Ray Rice clone? I wonder if the GM of the Browns frequents this forum and decided to get his advice from the fans here? Lol.

Rice's value is way lower than Trent's

Sadly that should be common sense but I see who started the thread

Please, everyone, think before you post.  This isn't even possible with his cap number.  Do some research.

Honestly this is probably the best move the browns front office has made since they were dug up from the franchise grave. Taking Richardson where they did was one of the most ill advised picks in nfl history. He is not a special player in any way. In fact he is quite soft for what he is billed to be. They were lucky to get what they got for him to be honest.

Rice is in a completely different category. He is one of only a handful of backs in the league who can break a game open at any time. He has missed very little time and no major injury. In fact due to his size and playing style he has taken few major hits for a feature nfl back. His recent fumbling is slightly concerning but many running backs have fixed that problem, including one Adrian Peterson.

Bobby Rainey with Willis McGahee. Quesstion! Is this about Rainey looking that good?

Nope not at all..

About a new front office trying to make themselves look good through good drafts

I agree that he was definitely over drafted as was his teammate Mark Barron. The colts need defensive players more than they do RBs.

Not sure what to make of "The Trade".

It's very hard to make an argument that the Browns made a mistake in drafting Richardson when Indianapolis was also willing to give up a great deal for him.  That argument would have to be that they both erred.

The sense here is that the Brown's passing attack wasn't consistent enough to allow Richardson to get the easy unexpected yards.  So many teams stacked the box against him that rushing yards were harder to come by. Nevertheless, he still set a Brown's rookie rushing record and scored 9 rushing touchdowns that year. It will all likely change in Indianapolis, for the better,  and we'll get a more accurate read on Richardson's overall talent level.

Whats clear is that old Joe Banner is essentially pulling the plug on this season.  He and his cohorts have made the determination that this Brown's team is not nearly ready to compete this year.  Factor that when evaluating what to make of Baltimore's close game against the Browns.

Actually, I think they've decided that they're not competing without a franchise QB so they're going to pull an Indy and tank for one in next year's draft.

You see... I kept saying all pre-season how great Rainey would be but we have so many arogant "veteran" posters who put him down because "he has never seen time with the 1's" or they say "I don't see what all the hype is about with Rainey" Smh

Rainey probably IS better than Rice right now. Plus he's cheaper. I'm happy for Rainey though, at least he gets a chance to be a feature back.
