Texans Rivalry?

49 posts in this topic

I know that it will probably never quite equal those we have formed with Pittsburgh and New England, but haven't you started to see a little bit of one develop in the past several years?

We combined for a classic game in 2010 (the Josh Wilson OT pick-six if you cannot remember) and played twice in 2011 (once in the playoffs) and both games were close.

And now one of the 5 best players in our team's history has deflected to their team. Isn't there a bit of a rivalry going on? I will appreciate your thoughts.

O hear hear you. Let's not forget Derrick Mason playing with them the week we played them... 2 years ago perhaps? They have seemed to replace that Jets rivalry that we had going on.

Everybody laughs at the Jets, but at the same time nobody really cares.

lol yea but remember when Rex first went over there. We played them every year and had ugly 9-6 games. And Flacco and Sanchez where looking like 2 of the best young QB's out there.

I've heard that their fans have started to loathe us over the years because we kept beating them until last year.

They got the revenge and we got the SB...it's even out...

It's leaning that way, but it needs more history to solidify itself. We have that with our divisional opponents and the Patriots. Right now I do not consider the Texans a rival, just a very good team we play each year.

I'm going to say the foundation is there, but still needs to develop more.  The teams have only played each other a half-dozen times or so, with Houston only winning their first game against us last year.  I could see it turning into one, but right now things are a little lop-sided.  Maybe they can start gaining some Ws against us then it'll get interesting.

No rivalry yet: these are 2 of the 4 youngest teams in the NFL.  The way the conference race has been playing itself out lately does increase it, though.  BAL's main rivals have been NE, DEN & HOU.

Can we have at least one more playoff game against them before we call it a rivalry? Big early game this season? I'm fine with that.

I mean they have, and have had former players of our but that doesnt make it a rivary. If thats the case the Colts should be our rivals too.  They have Redding, and we now have Clark and Stokely. Being a Ravens fan I hate the Texans a lot, but not in a Steelers/Pats way. More or less I hate them because they are now a relevant team. When i use to see texans on the schedule i would always put a big W. But thats not the case nowadays, I for one dont even think we will win this Sunday. but if you were to ask me that question few years ago, I would put money on us

Someone on their board said the beating they gave us last year was a blemish on our super bowl season.

Yeah they beat us for the first time in how long? Whatever, they seem to forget the epic collapse they had last year..then again in the divisional playoffs.

2 weeks in a row they let average to below average teams take a big lead on them..only to shart the bed and give it away. Houston's front 7 is good, I dont like their secondary even with Reed, and I think we can get plenty of pressure on Shaub.
Its a very even matchup

If u say so.... *shrugs*

I still enjoy beating Rex Ryan more than the Texans any day of the week.  I am not into the Texans vs Ravens thing as much as others...

Here is my top 5 dislike or must beat team list.

#1 Steelers

#2 Patriots

#3 Jets

#4 Browns

#5 Bengals

I think there's a sound argument for the rivalry. We're still missing an element in my opinion for it to be a true rivalry. It's very close. Our players need to talk more smack and it needs to get angrier during the games before it's a true rivalry. That's what's missing.

I don't see it as much of a rivalry. I doubt we have more than 5 or 6 matchups and only one in the post season. That isn't really enough for a rivalry to develop. Same with Denver.

With the Pats, we've seen them at least once a year for the past 5 years and we saw them twice a year 3 of the lsat 5 years.

I guess the beating we got from Denver in the regular season was another blemish... give me a break haha

Okay it seems to me that in the NFL every AFC team is a rivalry! They are all very good teams trying to reach for the same trophy. So why would there not be?

I think it has more to do with the Ravens being one of the best teams in the conference. Whenever anyone wants to get to the SB, they usually have to go through the Ravens in the AFC.

The Texans have enough talent to make it and we may see them again in the playoffs. The same thing goes for Denver and Cinci ofcourse.

If they beat us in the playoffs, they will most likely go to the Superbowl.  The only four teams that have beaten Harbaugh and Flacco in the playoffs have.  Then, we will be 1-to-1 in the playoffs and the last two AFC Champions.  That's when it reaches the status of rivalry for me.  If one of us wins another division crown, and the other doesn't, we won't even play each other next season, which kind of quells any talk of this "budding rivalry."

I agree with this mostly, and yes it will take a playoff loss to the Texans to seal it, but I would bet you and other Ravens fans will feel differently if the Texans come into your house beat the Ravens this Sunday.

Steelers rivalry was clealy #1 in my book until Hines Ward retired. Then it lost some luster after that point....

Not really. We lost to the Jags and a Titans a couple years ago, and I don't consider them rivals. I guess you must feel you have a great rival in GB because they embarrassed you at your place on national TV last year? If we play each other next season again, as well as the playoffs again one of the next two years, then I might consider you guys rivals.

Anytime to teams are perennial playoff contenders there's a bit of a rivalry.  But I would say the Pats are more of a rival now.

i was saying this during the 2011 playoffs. before the game i was talking about how this seems to be turning into rivalry material. its slowed down a whole lot since they mollywhopped us in a somewhat irrelevant game(but we came out on top at the end) but if we saw them in the playoffs last year it maybe wouldve been considered quite the rivalry, but that didnt happen so its not quite there yet, its got the potential tho, thats for sure
