2013-2014 NHL Season (Caps, etc.)

Colorado has been the team that has surprised me the most this year, Roy has been a great coach right now and is in my running for Coach of the year. I knew St. Louis was going to have a huge year also.

what do you know, great minds...

I probably will get flak for this but I would much rather ovi on my team than crosby ovi is just a monster and crosby only really shows up when you give him too much respect.

Both are gifted players, both can melt down when times get tough, neither back check

Caps getting any better defensively or are we looking at another early playoff exit?

I'm a life long Flyers fan, but from what I've seen of the Caps, they should be ok. Goaltending IMO is their biggest problem spot. Holtby's gaa is sitting right at 3.00 right now which is not where you'd want it to be.

Plus our defense isn't blocking shots, sure we have some big names and a potential Olympic player on our D who can score, they aren't even trying to block right now and giving more pressure to the goalie. The Rangers had 40+ shots on goal a few days ago.

Anyone watching the Winter Classic right now?

yeah I saw it. Glad the Leafs won. It was awesome that it ended in a shoot out as well.

Holtby cost us the game last night. Our D was magnificent but our goaltending needs to improve and I honestly don't think Grubb is going to start next year since I believe we should draft a good goalie.

Not a Caps fan, but I agree. With some solid Goaltending, maybe another solid, stay at home defensmen, the caps would be dangerous

I'm a little surprised on how well Jagr is playing right now for his age.

Yes. Jagr is STILL a strong skater. He's never been the fastest guy, but just how he's able to move laterally so quickly and smoothly with the puck...at his age is amazing.

With Marcus Johansson being named to team Sweden to replace Henrik Sedin, the Capitals have quite a few Olympians.

I'm surprised Martin Erat was named to the Czech team.

I don't understand the league's current obsession with outdoor hockey games right now.

They are trying to do different things to generate more interest in the NHL. That USA vs Russia game was a HUGE score for the league though... there were people all over my facebook who really only watch football and even non sports fans who were amazed by the intensity of that game. Most of them now can't stop watching the hockey..hopefully they continue when league play resumes.
